I'm a Brit and my family we put scrambled eggs on the toast and then beans on the top with a brown sauce BUT I get what she is saying with redundant starches. Then again, that's probably why my family puts scrambled eggs too.

I'd say that's a good comparison. American biscuits are basically scones, and they're reserved for sweet toppings only like jam and cream. I couldn't imagine eating them with gravy, especially white gravy which is completely bizarre. We don't have that at all here. But if I ever go to America I'd definitely order biscuits and gravy from a small cafe because it might be a surprisingly perfect comfort food. I imagine a mom and pop restaurant would do it extra nice

Look, beans on toast is one of my favourites as well, but how we do it in SA. You can’t just open a can heat it up and pour it over some toast. It needs seasoning and a bit of love.
