Feels like one of those cases where both this Marvel Select and the Marvel Legends figure of this armor of Iron Man are on pretty equal footing At least imo
I dug up an old comment I had made on a different video concerning this figure, because I too had some QC issues, mainly with the red paint, so here you go. Should work as long as the silver underneath is still intact and the affected area is not too large. Hope it helps. "FYI: for all those little nicks and scrapes this figure is most definitely going to get, Tamiya X-27 (Clear Red) works very well to cover those up" And yes, the shoulder pads should rotate, at least they do on mine, but paint chipping might be an issue. Mine was comparatively fine QC wise. Also, the backpack wings(?) open up to reveal some tech detail on the inside, although paint can be an issue there too.

@@tonileo9849 I have a love/hate relationship for that figure. The recent Marvel Legends Cyclops figures are honestly almost as good and half the price. I think the Mafex head sculpts are far better than Legends but all the articulation is there and the Legends belt doesn’t get in the way. It’s splitting hairs.
I don't mind the red paint scraping, it almost looks like battle damage because of the silver. Same with the arms, just a simple heat and swap and you're golden. I do hope those pauldrons rotate since even Hasbro knows to slip the joint under the shoulder to let it move with the arm.
Bought mine last year and had no qc issues. shoulder guards turn with ease on mine. I think iron man and captain America and the marvel select Hulk are top notch.
For the QotD, I might still buy a figure knowing it has QC issues. Unless it's something catastrophic like two right arms or terrible paint apps that I can't easily fix (like misaligned face deco.) I once bought a figure whose hips weren't assembled correctly, so it couldn't stand straight. It was the only one I could find, so I didn't have much of a choice.
I dont know why, but I love Diamond's big, chunky boxes. I remember buying the Alice video game line and just loving the boxes so much, I kept them in.
My collection is mostly 1:12 scale stuff, but I picked it up anyway - my copy didn’t really have any QC issues outside of some minor scuffing, but I have seen reviews with some bad copies. I’m honestly glad that Select is basically doing an Iron Man line at this point.
I have this iron man and it is my favorite iron man figure in my collection. He has some limitations, but that metallic paint and the accessories are just unbelievable for the price
If it's a character I really like and the accessories are interesting enough... Yeah, I'd still buy it even if I'm aware it has qc issues. I really want this Silver Centurion figure but I'm gonna wait for a classic Iron Man in red and gold. If Diamond Select makes one with the same level of care they put into the Captain America... Man, that's gonna be one of the best Iron Man figures ever made. I hope they do it.
Mine had the arms swapped too, none of the other QC issues yours had. Even the paint on the ankles stays in place after moving the feet, so hopefully your replacement one is much better. This is one of my favorite Ironman armors, so I was very happy to see them make a nice one. I thought the stand was just to make him stand based on the design of it I never even considered trying to put him in a flight pose haha. Also wasn't aware there is supposed to be an ankle rocker until watching this, mine did not want to move
It's a great figure. But mine came flawed. The helmet on mine came missing the cap where the neck peg fits into. I contacted diamond select and they sent me a new helmet sculpt. I should swap the arms on mine too.
1:22 "i do wanna show you my package, again, VERY BIG. Maybe TOO BIG. I've heard some people say that" uhhhh anthony? we're talking about the same thing right?
Fantastic review Anthony. Sadly, this product didn't impress in the manner to which I wanted. I purchased the same product, and I didn't experience the same QC issues. The only blemish I have is a slight red mark on some silver near the top of the calf. On display, the arms are stretched outwards, I cannot tell if the shoulder pads move. The accessories overcome some of the limitations in articulation. Despite this product's shortcomings I do believe it to be much more superior to the ML version. Carpet days mean the end is near. That light at the end of the tunnel shines brightly.
You got very unlucky on this one ! I got mine on clearance, in a destroyed box and i had very few qc issues, no loose joints and even the biceps were assembled the right way. The big shoulders were also stuck but with enough heat and force i was able to free them. This and a little paint flaw on the head with the googles were the only big problems i had !
Your trouble with the shoulder pads made me curious, so I quickly jumped over to another review. Shartimus reviewed it too and his figure's shoulders rotated all the way around no problem. The paint must have really bonded on your copy. He had some issues with paint chipping as well though.
Those shoulder pauldrons do rotate. Urs is stuck. It rotates, i was a little disappointed too when i opened him, cause of how well it is done, sculpt hides it but was happy when those did rotate
There are some truly fantastic Diamond Select toys, unfortunately the tightness / looseness on joints is something that's common in almost every figure (from various franchises) that I've picked up.
Small nicks of red paint flaking off very easily on mine and I feel like they could have done a better job with the accessories as well. They still haven't got the comic proportions down right.
thankfully only had a slight paint issue, and also dst has been amazing about replacing problematic figures. this is my current favourite Select Iron man
I got first issue of Amazing Yamaguchi Iron-man knowing about his paint issue. Sometimes I don't mind QC issues but for this one is just too much for me. Hope it's just your copy that was so messed up.
I’ll buy a figure with q.c issues If it’s very special, because I’m fairly confident in fixing some issues, that being said I didn’t buy Trunks until they fixed him. It’s rare.
I also got a whole ton of qc issues, stuck joints that don’t come unstuck even after heat, and paint scratches all over. My second one is much better. Definitely an amazing figure but qc definitely a big issue
unless it's unfixable, i'd still buy, the first release of boy from the future trunks had a couple but they were easy to fix, but i've had one with two of the same feet and there's nothing i can really do about that and i wish i knew in advance
Anthony, when you moved the upper diaphragm side to side, and forward and back, I noticed two giant gashes of red paint had been removed from three lower abdomen section. In your opinion, do you think it would’ve been possible to produce this figure like this with all the paint it has but without all the paint rub?
This figure looks beautiful but doesn’t function as intended. I got this in the mail and the leg joints were cracked and made it loose. The shoulder pads would not rotate with the arms. The limited articulation is frustrating. I haven’t picked up the figure since. The accessories are good tho. Might use the unmasked head for an Omniman
