Endlich kommt Paavo Järvi zurück! Die Serenade von Tschaikowsky ist eine wunderschöne Aufführung dieses romantischen Meisterwerks mit seidigen doch gut phrasierten Tönen aller Steichinstrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt echt schön und auch elegant. Die Sinfonie von Nielsen ist eine wunderschöne und spannende Aufführung dieses spätromantischen und einzigartig konstruierten Meisterwerks mit gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente. Der dritte Satz klingt echt schön und auch melancholisch. Der intelligente und unvergleichliche Dirigent leitet das hoch funktionelle Orcheser in verschiedenen Tempi und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Alles ist wunderbar!

I'm convinced that Jarvi doesn't understand Nielsen or his idiom. After a first movement that seemed to carry a heavy burden, he completely missed the lilt and humor in the second (it actually seemed tired), then the emotion, spirit and vitality of the third also eluded him - it just lays there (I never thought Nielsen could have sounded so dull!); and then the finale just came out hasty and hard, as if Jarvi were attempting to make amends for his previous misjudgments. That didn't work either. Perhaps he hasn't heard Carl Garaguly's great recorded performance, or Bernstein's, or just about anyone else's, most who were better entrusted than he to recreate this wonderful music. Let me quickly add that my critique of the performance in no way reflects upon the excellence of the FRSO, who can always be depended on for excellence of execution. (I haven't yet heard his Tchaikovsky Serenade, and I may not.)
Very interesting opinion. May I ask you, how many recordings with Paavo Jarvi have you heard? I must say, every recording/live concert with Maestro Jarvi is more or less different than every other recording/other conductor. Paavo Jarvi has very often different tempi, frasing..etc.. That is the reason I like him very much, even if I would never do his tempi...But for comparison, what do you think about Celibidache and his tempi? Looking forward your answer. Btw., listen to this Tchaikowski Serenade, it is really beautiful performance..
