    Good call on the U shape layout. I did not go under your lift bridge since it would interfere with train operation. Now much more inviting to get into the center of the action. Spurs are not DCS friendly so good call on removing what remained of old track.

    Looks great so far, I like the idea of a flip up bridge to keep that long front straight of track.

      Even flip ups are a pain and people are shy about flipping it. Trust me this is so much better.

    Hi Sean, thank you for sharing your thoughts on your train layout. Good job with all the wood work. Can't wait to see your next update. Thank you for all you do for the Model Train Hobby. Happy Railroading. ❤ wish mine looked that good.

    A great start for an awesome reno, Sean. It'll be quite an accomplishment when all is done: replacing the train yard, rearranging the corners corners and aligning the track to have complete journey through the layout: It'll be a great day, indeed!

    Great video. I appreciate being able to see the decisions and hard work that go into things like this. Sometimes it feels like a daunting task that must have a better way, but sometimes you have to roll up your sleeves, get dirty, and accept the fact it may take time to make changes like this.👍🏼

    Think the correct call on not going with the draw bridge. While IMO better for running trains, it would limit visitors access to the center section of the layout.

    I'll tell you Sean, when I saw your lift section all torn up the first thing that crossed my mind was:
    "Wow! This is going to be the best horror movie I've seen in years! "
    But so far it's looking like all the best horror movies, carnage along the way with a strong uplifitng finale!
    Looking forward to the next installment!

    Hey Sean, hard to believe it's been so long since I watched you put together the lift bridge, now I'm watching you tear it apart. I'm still interested in your lift bridge and understand that I will need to piece it together. I tried contacting you through your about section, just keeps coming back to me. Maybe there is another way to contact you, please let me know, as your lift bridge will be a perfect fit for my layout. Thank you, loved the video!

    Looks Great, and will be more ergonomic rather than ducking under the bridge, I think they sell unfinished wood switch plates that you can stain to match the benchwork, I love the oak stain that you chose.

    Having trains run behind scenery is not common due to access issues and not wanting to knock stuff over. However, IMHO it adds so much variety and interest. Thanks for sharing your remodel Sean. Nice presentation!

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Рік тому +1

      My whole layout has always been trains running in between all the scenes. I never have had to access anything in over a decade and I can reach all tracks from one of the sides of the platform so no issues there.

    • @musicman8942
      @musicman8942 8 місяців тому

      It's actually quite common to have trains run behind scenery. Once you have your track bullet-proofed there shouldn't be any issue. Modelers in all scales do it.

  • @daivdwalker2374
    @daivdwalker2374 Рік тому

    I'd put a lift bridge looks cool and you won't limit train movement cause the train could still go straight and still have room to the left put something in there for scenery

  • @jameskoryta7197
    @jameskoryta7197 Рік тому

    Interesting project. I thought you would be affecting your track plan a lot by removing the straight away. Like needing to change to a point to point operation but you have other ways to run. Enjoy creating your scenes. 🤓🧐

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Рік тому

      No, the straight away was always like a long siding but just one route around the loop, but not the only one.

      Shipping would be way too expensive; the winch is incredibly heavy. It would be cheaper to buy from Tim at Mianne because he gets reduced rates.

    if you put some water on anything that has ballast on it or any other scenery it breaks down the glue and it comes right off i had to do that when i took down my old layout

    • @seanstraindepot

      It is made by Mianne Benchwork. I just incorporated it into mine and did some minor mods.

    • @musicman8942

      Cool - I know about their work. They do stuff usable in all scales. That lift bridge might help solve something I'm dealing with with my HO layout.

  • @luvindemtrains
    @luvindemtrains Рік тому

    Nice update Sean. Did you ever consider doing a lift bridge on hinges? That way you maintain your long straight away but it's a lot faster to lift. Check out my appreciation video out and see what mines looks like.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Рік тому +1

      Considered it but because I would have to move the outer loop in from the edge about 3-4 inches, that was out. I would end up with S curves to get it to meet the side runs and don’t want those. Plus I really like just be able to walk freely with no obstructions. Again that would discourage people from walking in the middle.

    • @luvindemtrains
      @luvindemtrains Рік тому

      @@seanstraindepot that's understandable. Ultimately you have to be satisfied with your decision. I also like the idea of adding "real estate" to add buildings and more scenery. It's really a win win situation with the options you have.

    Are you able to run two trains at the same time now? I couldn’t really tell from the magazine piece on your layout. Now it seems that you’ve lost a loop of track.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Рік тому

      My layout has always been one mainline. I can run multiple trains because it's all command. I don't have any conventional. It does eliminate that one route across the front, but the freedom of movement in and out is so nice now.

    If anyone wants the lift bridge, but they're not handy to construct the 2 end towers, I bet Mianne benchwork would sell the new owner just the 2 end frames/towers.

    A drawbridge .

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  9 місяців тому

      Any bridge prevents people from going in the center and viewing all the great scenes and detail I spent tons of time creating. As much as people think they work, I tried it for 10 years and they just don't. People don't want to get trapped inside when trains are running, and they can't just mill around looking at things. With a layout shape like mine, I found being an open entrance to the middle works so much better.
