Thanks, this drives me absolutely nuts when it squeezes the vocals together and screws up the timing of the original form of the vocals. It isn't all the time that it does this, but I'm hoping to finally find the solution here, cuz it's weird how this works and sometimes doesn't work.
@@spinlightstudios i hope its not much to ask but can you show us how you process your bass in the future? Just like how you did with your overheads video? That would be awesome!
@@spinlightstudios Bass guitar :) What I loved about your overheads video is how you showed a natural and an extreme one. Its really a great approach at teaching newbs like me. Thanks in advance and looking forward.
Probably not, but I find when you turn flex time off, and back on - it usually reintroduces flex markers you may have gotten rid off - just does weird things. That’s why I choose to consolidate it
I would like to know if there is any other program or plug-in we can use that WONT give us the horrible artefacts in the vocal when using the flex stretching feature in logic.
I will always try to cut and nudge the audio into time before using flextime. I don’t really use the slice mode for anything besides drums, usually creates too many glitchy crossfades
@@spinlightstudios Thanks for your answer and the advice! I'm currently trying out different approaches. I was also wondering if it could be a good method to create a groove template from the main vocals and have the backings and doubles follow/quantize to that. The source I just can't seen to find a good way to really time edit is multi miced Piano. Even with all edits phase synced it losses a lot of depth.
sorry, but its really better to use split tool and align clips with proper crossfades. there is only a few situations, when we really need to ruin signal with stretching
As mentioned before diving into the video - I said this exact thing :) did you watch before commenting? but flextime is useful and can save a lot of pain when it’s needed. Appreciate your insights, but I did mention it’s best to cut and nudge before reaching for flextime :)

SO HELPFUL
Glad you think so!
nice job, some commercial songs specially modern pop songs have some magical tightness i wonder how they achieve that
Looks like I have something to get busy with this weekend. Thanks as always for these gems you are dropping mate!
You’re welcome mate :)

Like bass guitar, or bass drum?

Sounds like a good idea! I’ll try and find a project with some interesting bass to use!
Great video! Would love more Logic Pro tips and tricks!
For sure! Thanks Dan
Excellent video for a newbie like myself. Thank you!
Thanks!
Sounds awesome!
Cheers!
Great tip, new sub from Norway here, keep em coming 🎉
Cheers mate!
Really useful thanks so much
Thanks!
great one as always
Thanks Dimitry!
Thank you! Amazing!
When I turn flex time off would the lead and backing vocals become out of sync if I didn’t cut and join regions together like you did in 9:42?
Probably not, but I find when you turn flex time off, and back on - it usually reintroduces flex markers you may have gotten rid off - just does weird things. That’s why I choose to consolidate it
Gotcha, thanks for the timely response 🙏🏻
Love the track!
Yeah it’s banger! Check out chasing clarity - you got me sick on Spotify :)
in stead of manually aligning the backing vox to lead, why not just group them together and flex time both of them at the same time?
Depends how tight you want the backings to the lead. If the performance isn’t super tight then it wouldn’t work well
do you know an effective way to shift and nudge vocals when they already have automation?
There’s an option to make the automation follow your edits. I can’t remember where that option is at the moment but it’s definitely there.
Is there any way to nudge the flex markers with a keyboard command?
I don’t think so! Or not that I know of…
Nice!
Thanks legend!

Hmmm Melodyne is pretty good at manipulating vocal timing
Whats your thought on using slicing and notching into place vs the slicing mode in flex time?
I will always try to cut and nudge the audio into time before using flextime. I don’t really use the slice mode for anything besides drums, usually creates too many glitchy crossfades

Very interesting. But now I know I wouldn’t have needed to buy Vocal Align, as for my needs FlexTime would have done the job!
Flextime is definitely slower than vocalign if you’re doing lots of vocals. For smaller amounts of edits, flextime does the task pretty well!
Cool sounding song. Is there a link to listen to it?
Not yet, it’s unreleased, but I put a link to their Spotify, you can follow them
And wait for it’s release if you want :)
Hey dude, what kind of headphones are you using? Thanks :)
Beyerdynamic dt770s!
