You forgot to mention that blood pressures taken in a doctor’s office might also be in error due to implementation of poor techniques and procedures by the staff member taking the blood pressure. I am a retired paramedic and I have encountered numerous nurses and medical assistants that seem as if they were never taught how to take a blood pressure or simply don’t care to do it the right way. As the use of automatic sphygmomanometers and disposable cuffs are increasing, so too is the use of inappropriately sized cuffs. Patients are also commonly walked to a room, quickly seated and then have their BP checked right away while verbally answering a series of questions, all of which can lead to inaccurate BP measurement results. Thank you for making this and all your other awesome videos!
well said 👏 its almost as if they are "trying" to get higher readings! I've noticed the last few times the cuff being so tight it painful! I mentioned this to the nurse the last time...again, way tight cuff, eye-brow-raising number, cuff adjusted, elbow propped up, 128/78 👍

Perhaps avoid consuming the processed foods that cause high BP. Too many people choose a diet far too high in refined carbohydrates. Processed cereal for breakfast, commercial bread for lunch & low quality pasta for dinner.
I've noticed the push to lower the hypertension limits in order to prescribe pills to more people. The same trick was performed with repeatedly lowering the limit for cholesterol, until almost 100% of the people are eligible to take pills. Luckily low blood pressure has more serious and clearly noticeable side effects, so they can't push it with the slogan "the lower, the better" 😏
I do have an off-topic question for you Dr. Dhand. My friend's mother is 90 years old. Her right calf was extremely swollen with a red blotch. She went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor said it was due to the blood thinner Eliquis. She went to a hit and run doctor and said it was actually pretty common. Honestly, I've never seen it. She also presented with SOB. I would have done some blood work including a d-dimer. This is the reason why medicine is so challenging right now. Thank you very much for your time and service.
IMO, the goal of most doctors is to prescribe meds, whether truly necessary or not. Any side effects are welcome opportunities to generate further income thru additional office visits, tests, and medications; wash, rinse, repeat.
Not all doctors are prescribing for the money. Sone truly believe they are doing good and saving lives! Pills are what they are taught in med school and very little else.
My elderly husband is on a myriad of pills!!!!!! Now, a new one for BP. At NO stage has ANY Dr EVER, EVER questioned his diet!!!!!!! I do my absolute best in supplying him a good diet, however he buys cakes biscuits sodas chips nuts 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Nuts might be okay, depending on the nuts. The rest is not good. By the way, my BP went down when I _started_ consuming more salt, but I was at the time not consuming any salt or salted foods.
I am seeing by the comments eating healthy exercise and how about no television...people are sitting around watch that for hours every day and not moving around...haven't had TV for at least 15 years
I have white coat syndrome due to…I don’t know lack of TRUST. My BP through the roof 200/100 total panic attack. I take it at home and low. Please do. Also you can start to freak out at home too if you’re an A personality- taking pills can make you too low if you’re normal at home. There is a video on utube in breathing to take it way down
My next door neighbor turned 65 last month. He was all jazzed up because he got to go on Medicare. Oh boy. The doctor put him on a blood pressure pill. When he went for his next checkup, the doctor added another one. He was telling me that he feels terrible now. His hands are shaky and he feels cold all the time. 😬😳
I worked in a healthcare setting. They never take patients blood pressure properly. Putting the cuff over clothes, arm not elevated to heart level and wanting you to talk while being monitored. I doubt anyone gets the correct reading in any medical setting these days.
I've never had high blood pressure in my life and have always held an extremely healthy lifestyle and was an athethetic person to the point of (almost) obsession but after stronger than protocol doses of chemo drugs for breast cancer (9 out of 9 on the bloom richardson scale) I ended up with A fib and an ischemic stroke. I am now taking entresto, elequis, and carvedilol daily, and diuretics. I think it's overload. I'm a walking zombie. I've been taking these for 8 years now. I'm glad to be alive but..........
Back like 7 years ago, I developed overnight a high blood pressure. - at times 180 .. Finally I discovered it was a calcium supplement prescribed by my gynecologist. I am OK now,
When I found out that different countries have different BP recommendations, that was IT for me worrying about my BP! It's just a scam to sell BP meds!
I take the obvious bet that you live longer without the meds because you will have to adopt a REAL food diet and at least walk 5 miles every day... and that will have a few desirable side effects😂
Dr. Dhand, this begs a key, fundamental question. How much control do you have over your body? We know "systolic" represents the contraction and "diastolic" translates into relaxation. We have conclusive, tangible data, these numbers can fluctuate like an equalizer. In order to stabilize blood pressure, relaxation must be increased between beats. Every single Guru in the world is a "Hindu." Some of these "Yogis" have incredible control over the body by diluting their cellular structure at a greater particle depth. This is a "Highly" advanced level of meditation. Cutting a branch off a tree represents its "growth" , independent from the source, which is the "root." It is simply astounding what some people in this world can do naturally.
My mom is going through it right now and she's on 3 BP pills all to be taken in the am. She's weak, sleeping all day and just out of it but her BP is 180/84 off the meds and at 140/83 in them. Going to make an appointment ASAP.
Was on 2 medications for high BP, caused light head when standing up. Stopped taking the less potent tablet (2.5mg) and now back to normal. No point trying to see a GP as they only look at the number, not the effect!
I'll have to remember to take my blood pressure machine with me to the office. Great idea! My blood pressure is usually higher in the office than at home, and I wonder if my machine does not register the blood pressure properly. It is supposed to be a good brand. Thanks for your videos. I find them helpful.
I did an experiment today and drank some water with a teaspoon of organic beet root powder. I waited about 2 hours and my bp was down to a good reading. I’m also changing my eating habits, eating fruit instead of sugary foods. It’s a process, but I really don’t want to take meds.
just got back from my VA doctor appt today. i track my numbers pretty close at home and at walmart. my average for 2024 is a top number of 140, bottom number is always great around 80. i'm 68 with one small stroke after 2 surgeries in 2016. i think 140 is ok but my doctor of course wants me on medication. i turned her down. now here's the interesting part, i told her i wanted to continue working on lowering the top number at home with better exercise and eating. BUT she told me as we get older our blood pressure with naturally go up AND life style changes like what I wanted to do won't change that. Reading between the lines to me that means I should just give up, don't even try to improve my health, take the pill and feed the system. my mother was on 23 medications before she died of heart failure and 5 yes 5 were for blood pressure. it didn't help her. my goal is to never take a prescription mediation.
79 years old. My genius doctor recently told me that I'm at risk of a stroke because my blood pressure is "too low". It has always been low. That is my normal. She offered no suggestions on how to raise my blood pressure . Perhaps she meant to help by scaring the bejeezus out of me?!!!!
@@trail.blazer Mine typically runs 116-118 over 68-74. Occasionally, it will be at the 120/78 level. I am physically active, do all my own gardening, house work, other chores related to being homeowner, regularly hike and go kayaking with a friend. Now, I have something new to worry about. Thanks, Doc.
@@asmith8603 That sounds like perfectly good BP and not in the slightest 'low'. Medically the definition of low blood pressure is where you have symptoms because of it being low, which would typically happen under 90/60.
@@trail.blazer I thought it was good, too. But doctor told me that based on my age my BP should be 145+/90. Not sure how she came up with this number. I do have an appointment in couple of weeks with a new doctor - if I don't have a stroke first! 😊😊
My doc has no off-ramp for me to stop taking BP meds. I've been stable at 120/70 for months. I only take 1/2 tablet of telmisartan (20mg). I think I need to see another doc for a second opinion. I don't want to take these drugs for the rest of my life. My doc says that once you are on BP meds you are on for life. I'm in Canada.
The BP monitors are not consistent. The errors are all over the place. My BP monitor underestimated my bp by 20-30 points. Then I bought two more machines. The three monitors were showing different readings. Different by 10-30 points. I took one machine to my doctors office and wanted to get it calibrated. The staff didn’t have the time or interest in helping. I am now thinking of buying a traditional manual bp monitor and a stethoscope and trying to learn how to measure bp manually.
I took my BP machine to the doctor's rooms and we discovered their machine fluctuated wildly while mine was fine! At last after the third visit they gave me my repeat prescription!
This is so timely. Recently, I had to have some oral surgery did not have to be sedated, just a local, but I am always anxious at any docs office and related that my blood pressure would be high.. and of course it was so after I relaxed a bit they took it again and it had gone down a bit. But the nurse was pushing for me to have it checked ugh...Your videos make us better medical consumers via straightforward medical info...ty again helping us be better self advocate for our health!
I went for a regular checkup at my hospital and they got a high reading and the nurse wanted me to go to the emergency department. I told her to use another instrument and suddenly the reading was OK and I was dismissed. I do my own readings at home and they never show crazy numbers.
and weird, a nurse took four attempts to take blood from both arms, the last attempt she pressed the back of her pen into the center of the bent elbow while my head was turned...
If you bring your own blood pressure machine to the doctor and your machine reads lower they will just tell you your machine is wrong. I have two BP machines at home. My readings at home on both machines are around 130/85 to 139/88, and sometimes around 126/84. This week at PCP office the first reading was 199/98! The nurse took it again and it was 181/91. They were using a wheeled in BP machine. I told them it was a ridiculous reading. But that second reading is what was entered in my file. They wouldn't say when their machine was last calibrated. I accused them of getting the machine from a pharmaceutical company. When the doctor finally came in to see me, he didn't even bring up the topic of blood pressure! I do not trust doctors. I know 4 other people at my gym that go to this hospital owned doctor's office. Guess what ? They all had similar stories!
My only medication is cigarettes 🥴If I were to stop, my blood pressure would sky-rocket & more people would die 😂 However, I grow organic fruit, veg, herbs, raising happy hens & cultivate my own compost. So thankfully I’m far too busy to come across one of them quacks. God bless those like Dr Dhand whom genuinely care about their fellow human beings 🙏

My doctors office called and wanted me to schedule a check up and schedule a EKG lol. I told them I will call you when I want a physical and why the hell do I need an EKG I’m a healthy woman on no medications. Evidently my lame doctor needs money.
My doctor just told me with one test in his office years ago, that I should be on blood pressure meds. I didn’t take them after a few months. I just have my own bp portable tester. The doc doesnt tell me much about any results like blood results and said it is for him to worry about. When you are over 70 they treat you like idiots. True that many have different ideal levels which THEY HAVE LOWERED over decades. Still didn’t stop heart issues because of other factors.
In July 2023 I was put on 5mg amlodipine because I had a stroke. Recently I was told to take my bp in the morning if less than 100 don't take it. After 10 days of less than 100 I decided to stop taking it. Since then on a couple of mornings my bp has been over 100 but less than 120. My real concern is since January 2024 the diastolic number in around 60 or lower. The nurses and Dr don't seem concerned about it. Yes, after being the medical power of attorney for my sister and husband and having a stroke in 2023 I have severe white coat syndrome.
I was started on "something" which briefly lowered my blood pressure to 120 over something but made me so ill that I could not function. I tried three more and each made me so ill that I would have preferred to die. I suppose it's nice to have drastically lowered blood pressure and to just lie there living quietly and feeling ill. That proves only that the pill will lower blood pressure but that the quality of life will be zero.
I'm down to 1/4 of what the DR had me on now for my BP. PA wanted me on vaseodiolator (sp?) because of another issue. I looking into herbal vaseodiolators. I added one new one per week making sure there was no side effects. Monitored my bp x 3-4 per day. Finally, I dropped my BP to 120 over 75. PA was thrilled and wants to know what I'm taking and how much. PA said keep doing what I'm doing. ALWAYS WEB SEARCH SIDE EFFECTS OF WHAT YOU ARE TAKING VS MEDS YOU ARE ON AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS YOU HAVE. ETA: I was at stroke level on my BP before I saw the PA.
I have Wal Mart hypertension. I check my BP at their free kiosk and it's a little elevated because Wal Mart is such a relaxing place to be in. I'm generally 120/75 or thereabouts.
I have learned how to bring my blood pressure down on command. It takes maybe 5 to 15 minutes. If I can't do it in 15 minutes, at home, I stop. Maybe do it later.
Make them take manual with the cuff. Not the machine cuff. Mine is typically lower with the manual cuff. Also mine is higher in afternoon from work stress. Thanks Dr appreciate you
You know how much an anticoagulant is, $15 HUNDRED, Costco low does aspirin is around 2 dollars, someone I know said forget 15 hundred,. they use aspirin.
Xarelto costs $500 for 30 days with health insurance. My former doctor cant understand why I wont take it. I said why not aspirin he said no. There are foods that thin blood which I am taking instead.
I've been taking a BP bill that has a diuretic in it and I believe that the side effect that I had was gout. It was terrible and very painful! I don't want that to happen again so I am visiting my doctor next week to see if she will work with me on my BP pills.
And drs will argue you to death that htcz SPARES potassium which is NOT TRUE. I wound up in ER 3 times with low potassium. Losartan can also cause fluid.
About 12 years ago, At the Docs office my BP was 155\95. I called BS. Had them take it again, same number. Then i demanded to have it checked the OLD way. They had to find a RN that knew how. Guess what, 135\75. I wrote down the manufactor of the automatic BP machine and low and bebold it as made by the same company that made the BP Meds, AKA Drugs.
I can make my blood pressure go up just thinking about it. (like now). I used to take it twice a day for years. I am on very low dose of bp meds because I have emotional hp. Anyway now i don't want any of my doctors to take it except one, so i go to him 4 times a year to check. I can no longer take it at home, creates too much anxiety. 🥺
Doctor, thank you for this video. Our doctor does take the steps noted. What I want to know is how many points can white coat hypertension account for? DH BP shoots up tremendously. What do you think? Thank you
I am on three blood pressure pills, but I’m only taking amlodipine and lisinopril now. I am on Wellbutrin and Zoloft and now they have me on a statin Crestor. I am tired all the time. I’m hoping you could do a video on this. I am 65 years old.
Dr. Can you tell me why when you visit a doctor they take your blood pressure and blurt the number out like the patient knows whether it's good? Or bad

Thank you Doctor, for this very important video. People really should question these meds before starting them,👍💯
Thanks for watching! Happy to help
My doctor had me monitor my BP three times a day for a month before he prescribed anything.
There's no time in the doctor's office for taking blood pressure correctly
Thank you Dr. Dhand for your great care
Appreciate your kind words
Back like 7 years ago, I developed overnight a high blood pressure. - at times 180 .. Finally I discovered it was a calcium supplement prescribed by my gynecologist. I am OK now,
When I found out that different countries have different BP recommendations, that was IT for me worrying about my BP! It's just a scam to sell BP meds!
How is it that every single individual human being is supposed to have the same identical blood pressure numbers?! I've always wondered about that?!
The 'One Size Fits All' syndrome!!!
Is anyone living any longer with any medications , this is what research I want to see!
Very good video once again Doctor D
Was on 2 medications for high BP, caused light head when standing up. Stopped taking the less potent tablet (2.5mg) and now back to normal. No point trying to see a GP as they only look at the number, not the effect!
My BP is normally 115/65 or so with a accurate machine at home. I am a 69 year old Carnivore.
How low is too low?
Mine is low too. Especially the lower number.
Also I am sure it fluctuates with women’s menstrual cycle. My bp is higher a day or two before period.
My Dr put me on losarten and I never took it.
My doctor gave me an 'EXTRA' BP pill - Candestarten or something - threw it in the back of the cupboard and will not use it.
Simple, high potassium foods daily! Leafy green vegetables lower BP
Your doctor is wrong.
Good luck getting another doctor.
Ur doc is one of the many liers out there.
If my BP goes up or down, I'll know immediately by the way I'm feeling. I am in tune with my body.
Spot on! I get white coat syndrome (160/90) EVERY time I go to the doctor's office. I go anywhere else at any other time, it's 125 or 130/70...
I'd be trying to run out of there without a prescription 😮
I care for my ninety one year old mother and I don't think many GPs understand their own treatments
I get extreme fatigue with most medications it has been extremely hard to deal with.
Thank you Dr. Dhand for sharing very informative!
Plenty of omega 3 😊
The cheap stuff is rancid from being processed incorrectly.
Full details on the Rosita's website.
Omega 3 from whole foods is good. From supplements not so much.
You could just eat oily fish 🐠🤔
I went for a regular checkup at my hospital and they got a high reading and the nurse wanted me to go to the emergency department. I told her to use another instrument and suddenly the reading was OK and I was dismissed. I do my own readings at home and they never show crazy numbers.
My dr Bowersox came out of retirement!! Hes natural and reg Dr
I notice that since Covid-19, many who work in health care seem quite miserable ... 😕
and weird, a nurse took four attempts to take blood from both arms, the last attempt she pressed the back of her pen into the center of the bent elbow while my head was turned...
Thank you for these videos Dr. Dhand. 😊
My only medication is cigarettes 🥴If I were to stop, my blood pressure would sky-rocket & more people would die 😂
However, I grow organic fruit, veg, herbs, raising happy hens & cultivate my own compost.
Thanks Dr.Dhand
God Bless and Protect you Dr Dhand
I hate that they just want to get everyone on tablets ☹
I really wonder if, especially for older people, reducing the BP with drugs down to 120/80 causes poor blood perfusion through the tissues.
Also cinnamon in my coffee has helped a lot to lower.
Found out lisinopril can cause fluid retention
Very reassuring info. Thank you, Dr. Dhand.
I'm taking valsartan, but mostly because it has strong anti-anxiety effects on me :)
If it's more than 140 over 90, you'll lose a C.D.L. If it's even close, it will be difficult to keep a driving job.
Thank you 🙏 ❤
The 3 questions start at 1:52
Thank you so much 💓
Thanks Dr Good Information.
Thanks Dr appreciate you
My husband takes Ramipril. Is this a good medication for high blood pressure?
Lisinapril caused my throat to swell shut ,and a 7 HR stay in the er.
I developed chronic cough!
You know how much an anticoagulant is, $15 HUNDRED, Costco low does aspirin is around 2 dollars, someone I know said forget 15 hundred,. they use aspirin.
Be careful because it depends why you need the anticoagulant. Aspirin won’t always be as effective.
Great video as usual !!! Thanks !!!!
How in the world do you get a hold of this guy to get medical help? I agree with him on everything he is saying this system is broken
And drs will argue you to death that htcz SPARES potassium which is NOT TRUE. I wound up in ER 3 times with low potassium. Losartan can also cause fluid.
Whats better than hydrochloride
I was prescribed Nifedipine for preeclampsia at the end of my pregnancy, and after, for a short time.
3x's/day was new. I heard on waking daily, which is what I do.
I was told that I had situational high blood pressure.
I am on 5 BP meds due to a hormone producing adrenal adenoma. No high BP before. Adenoma removal surgery scheduled.
Oh my. Try to get off all that pHARMa
Crestor is the worst possible statin you can take, with the most side effects. They put my dad in a nursing home!
Dr. Can you tell me why when you visit a doctor they take your blood pressure and blurt the number out like the patient knows whether it's good? Or bad
I like my doctor but she never measures blood pressure correctly. She also never tells me what it is unless I ask. I measure my BP at home.
Mine is lower at night, under 120 over something or other and 130 over something in the day.
What a causes low blood pressure
Many causes. One of the simplest causes is dehydration and low blood volume.
