I was also there, serving in the Raf, after the concert got dropped off at Dusseldorf Airport to fly home for Christmas. It was also the night Roxy Music played Jealous Guy, for the first time. Great times.
@@davidbootland3407 Yes it was just 14 days after John Lennon was murdered and Dire Straits played the Song "News" for him. Was very emotional. But also the first time, that Mark Knopfler played a Schecter guitar in Europe. I still remember staring his guitar and only thought "That´s not a Fender"😄

I remember Mark saying of his 1st guitar he played the basic note until he felt sick... and so the basics create what we live and enjoy in eternity... 😎
The way Mark swings his guitar at 2:30 when there's that small "break" is just simple, short but still wonderful. He just plays his guitar with such passion that it's a part of his body!
When I was 14, I used to frequent a record shop called "Kithareon" in my home town of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. The owner, knowing my musical tastes, motioned me to the listening booth and said, "what do you think of this new band, and this, the first song on the album, blew me away. I later moved towards heavy metal, ending up for 15 years as the lead singer, lead guitarist and songwriter of a heavy metal band called The Uninvited. But I always have time for some Dire Straits. And this song still blows me away, although several DS songs do now. I have all their albums on cassette, CD and as digital downloads.
I have the first 3 original vinyl LP's.. Totally worn down, from lifting the tunes. If you weren't there, you can't understand what a big deal Dire Straits where at the time..
Man, I played the crap out of this album when it came out! Kinda saved rock music at the time, or at least one of the late 70's albums that helped push disco away. (also George Thorogood and Joe Jackson)

Yes. They are a great band. The organ gets too loud a and messes up Lions but it's great. Pick Withers was and still is a fantastic drummer. Right here he may be the most impressive one on the stage. At this point they have those older songs whooped.

Probably the best version of the band with the steady, staccato drumming of Pick Withers and the strong rhythm playing of Hal Lindes. I love Terry Williams, but it was a different sound when he played: heavier and more rock-n-roll. Pick always seemed like more of a jazz drummer, which is my preference for this type of music. Wish I could've seen them back then. To those of you who did, much envy!
Yep, still a guitar-based band but a more competent rhythm guitarist, some keyboards but not dominating the sound as during the two-keyboard era of the 80s.
What a wonderful DS treasure from the early 80s, incl. the great Schecter in its first guise. Lovely loose spontaneous playing by the whole band, full of energy and playing pleasure. A joy to watch. More of this please.
