Bro, we just finished celebrating one of the biggest festivals in our country "Water Festival", and I've already seen 2 insane internet stories about my country. CIA agent arrested in Cambodia (2-3 days ago) and now this. 😭😭😭
It's a bit disingenuous that you're "reporting" on this without any context or knowledge on Cambodia. Do you know that Cambodian authorities are some of the most corrupt in SEA and have been exposed for faking confession along with framing people for crimes they did not commit just to cover up their involvement with the human trafficking? People actually living in SEA knows because it's the Malaysians and Singaporeans that always get affected by these Cambodian human traffickers while their authorities still choose to let them run rampant.
LMAO As a Taiwanese, I truly can't believe Mujin just covered one of our most iconic national laughingstock like dude how did you even find out about this lol These two made Taiwanese headline for about three days and netizens here were all begging the Cambodian government to never let them back. Hope Somali get the same punishment soon. BTW I like to add that in the same press conference, Goodnight Chicken actually made an offer basically saying that "If you let us go, I'll use my channel to promote Cambodia and let everybody know how beautiful this place is" and the Cambodian goverment just said "Nah".
You do realize the Cambodian police are extremely corrupt so I'm not surprised if they were framed for the crime and trust me, as a Malaysian, we have experience the same treatment from Cambodian authorities
The only Clout chasing drug addicts I've seen worse are Jack Dumbhorty and Ramsay Ismael Somali. If these clowns ever face prison time then I'd be happy to see their faces in foreign prison.
For this idiot, he was more of a nuisance in Japan and Israel but in South Korea, he crossed the line by making terrorist threats and committing offensive acts that insulted their culture and history. This is why he's going to be locked up in Korea for a long time.
I bet he was banking on being deported so he can move on to being a nuisance in another country. Little did he know even north korea knows not to piss off south korea too much
people have always disrespected SEA countries cos we're third worlders but that just means we've been through hell SEA people can put up with a lot. Call them slurs, make fun of their accents, litter in their countries, etc. They've been through worse. But if you do something to actually cause Southeast Asians to lost their patience with you, you're in for a world of hurt.
We spent two months in Cambodia recently, and the Khmer people were some of the kindest and most welcoming we have encountered during our travels. The country has been through a lot and deserves better than some so-called influencers tarnishing its image for clout.
@@ferretyluv Some criminals target wealthy people, these cambodian criminals are obviously more interested in scamming wealthy taiwanese than their own citizens. That doesn't mean honest hard working cambodians should also get slandered.
To be fair, Cambodia is basically a dictatorship under the prime minister and a one-party state. That is why prosecutions and sentencing can be done at a lightning speed because they actually don't need to worry about due process. The guy in charge seems pretty chill though, my dad has met him before. Well not chill about this of course lol.
I hope Johnny Somali (real name: Ramsey Khalid Ismael) gets the max sentence on the many crimes that he is convicted of. I hope South Korea makes an example out of him discouraging other LiveStreamers from disrespecting the country that allowed them to enter and visit their country in the first place. RKI/JS is facing multiple year sentences totaling close to 30 years or maybe more if they add more charges. I doubt he will be sentenced to 30+ years (one can only hope), but maybe 10-15 years will teach him a lesson.
Legal Mindset was saying 1 - 10 years according to his sources. However, there are a few additional crimes that can be added to the list if the Koreans care to prosecute. Meanwhile he is out and about from what the net is saying. Probably adding to the list - he hasn't the sense to say enough... The police of course are watching. Legal Mindset has a hard drive of videos that js tried to delete. He'll be giving it to the police :D.
10 to 15 is quite illogical , i agree that his behavior is disrespectfull but 10 15 years is whole life for something that isnt as big as u think . i would say that a sentence between 2 to 5years is logical. bro even rqpists and killers smtimes gets less than 15years
Do you think he's the one who started that trend? It's been going on for a long time. As long as they make money of it, they will continue and do worse to get even more views, so stop talking about them. You all are giving them free publicity by talking about it.
Holy shit, we can only hope. Dude is a literal fucking monster. No matter how much time he gets, it won't be enough, in my opinion. I see people often say someone "has a pnchable face".. (censoring it because it barely takes anything for UA-cam to hide/delete your comments anymore..) He's the epitome of that phrase. So much so, that it broke the laws of time and space and despite people having said that for decades, he is the the source for that phrase being coined/used at all those teeth, it looks like he's some human like lifeform that has evolved to eat rocks.
Additional years should he be deported back to the States. The NSA (America's Secretive Agency) can press charges against him for creating instability because he was blasting North Korean Propaganda.
FYI, the slave scam centers in Myanmar and Cambodia are state sponsored. These countries arent some poor innocent states suffering from a crime problem, the whole state is supporting it. Its so bad even when the EU and UN held an event to help the Cambodian govt 'solve the problem' they had to change the venue of the event because the venue was owned by a human trafficker who was a high ranking govt official
Yeah I was wondering about that. Seems clear that the government has something shameful to hide. Still the hoax took up a bunch of resources that could have been doing something important.
As Vietnamese, we know for a fact that these are Chinese funded. The CCP has a lot of influence in both countries. Not only that, we also setup scam call centres over there to scam our own people. It is fucking disgusting.
Wow, what a wild imagination you have. State sponsored? That’s just lazy thinking. Do you think every corrupt action in a country equals government endorsement? Trafficking and scams are global crimes, not local conspiracies. Funny how you skipped over the international criminals involved in these networks or how demand from wealthy nations fuels them. As for your EU and UN anecdote, you’re reaching. Changing a venue doesn’t scream ‘state complicity’; it screams logistical hiccup. But sure, keep twisting facts to suit your narrative. Maybe do some actual research next time instead of spewing oversimplified nonsense that belongs in a conspiracy forum.
Exactly this is the problem with the way this influencer got sentenced. People always confuse the right for a fair trial for people like him with having empathy for them, when in reality, it's about preventing arbitrariness of the state. If officials can ignore regulations to put someone everyone hates in jail quickly, they can just as well ignore the rules when they're offered bribes by criminals.
There's one rule in South East Asia: Go wild, but dont get caught. We may be party animals, from the Thai to Filipinos, but our prison system makes the Sinaloas sounds like Disney World
Special mention goes to this one libertarian clown, Chad Elwartowski CEO of Ocean Builders, who's really into seasteading, based on his idiotic idea that the sea is the wild west without government rules and regulations. In very spectacular show of idiocy, he decided to start building seasteading pods in Thailand's territorial waters without asking permission or even trying to find out the legal ramifications and proudly broadcasted that it was a "big middle finger against the governments of the world". He trusted that due to weak governance, Thailand's state would not intervene. So, after his very public taunts, Thailand's government spurred into action and declared these structures he had build to be in violation of their economic exclusive zone and charged Elwartowski and his girlfriend for endangering Thailand's national sovereingity. Which by the way is a crime punishable by death in Thailand. Elwartowski and his GF had to flee from the country and Thailand's navy confiscated his little vanity project.
As a Cambodian, I have watched lots of your videos. Thanks for covering this. We welcome all visitors from around the world as long as you respect us and our culture. Cambodian people are really friendly and helpful. That was really serious at that time. Cambodia has been accused of a lot of bad things happening lately. By doing this he adds more problems and accusations to our country. We have gone through enough for the past 40-50 years after the Pol Pot regime that killed 1/4 people of our country.
@@Migxy008 the Cambodian police are involved with the human trafficking syndicate lol, numerous Malaysians have been kidnapped by them and when our government pressured them to take action, they just said they're trying so no, I don't trust this story and the Taiwanese youtubers were likely forced into a confession. If you're from SEA, you would know Cambodia, Philippines and Thailand police are the most corrupt
Taiwanese over here, I’m pleasantly surprised you made a video about this, I was just thinking how Somali had it easy, imagine if he was in Cambodia… these influencer think they are untouchable, countries can learn a thing or two from Cambodia for sure. btw Liuyu is an openly gay and proud influencer in Taiwan 😂 just for some context lol
Also another fun fact: Cambodian government and Taiwanese government have a bit of history because in the 90s, Taiwan was very friendly with then PM Norodom Ranariddh, so when military coup happened and Hun Sen took over, the relationship got soured, many people in Taiwan speculated that this also played into Good Night Chicken’s harsh and brutal sentencing. We also don’t have embassy there, and Hun Sen follows one China policy. So GNC is likely be sent to China after his release 🤣

That's great. But this guy will have a different experience in prison. For example, a constant danger of being murdered and will constantly be @$$ raped.
Based off some of the comments; the reason why he was so quickly apprehended and sentenced was not because he was "tarnishing a countries image" which he was, the true reason being was that unbeknownst to him he was bringing light to the slave call centers and human trafficking which are heavily if not entirely ran by the officials themselves! So in a weird turn of events, he might actually be, A HERO!

As someone who spent four years in Cambodia many moons ago I can attest that they don't joke around! They have a vaguely written law about protecting "Cambodian customs and culture", but that can mean anything that is considered inappropriate in a conservative Buddhist country. There were a bunch of Americans who opened a dance club in Siem Reap where dancing consisted of dry humping, twerking and such. Once the club became known to the authorities they swooped in and arrested everyone. They realized their mistake and fortunately the police gave them a chance to publicly apologize to avoid prison time, meanwhile they closed the club, signed an agreement with the police that they won't do such a thing ever again, and I think they all left the country afterwards. So yeah, don't let their "peaceful" Buddhist image fool you. They're as strict as a Muslim country. Public display of affection is also frowned upon in traditional Khmer mindset (especially if you're unmarried), and I've had girlfriends that wouldn't even hold hands in public. Maybe Thailand is more liberal but one should not assume the same for Cambodia. I was also shocked when I was told to wear long trousers and long sleeves to visit a pagoda (Wat Leu) in Sihanoukville. I mean, it's already 35°C daily and I had a hard time keeping my t-shirt on, but I survived the very formal visit and got a massive respect from the locals. You can walk everywhere else in flip flops and a beer tank top, but the way you dress and present yourself will get you a different treatment from the locals. Kind of explains why the authorities did not take it as a joke for someone to dress in a military uniform and stage the kidnapping. And that's how I stayed away from trouble all those years - dress nicely, behave nicely, talk nicely. Now I have memories to cherish and I can reflect on my fun, roaring 20s. I haven't been in Cambodia in 6 years, but on summer nights I crack open a beer on the balcony and listen to the classics from Sin Sisamouth or Ros Sereysothea. So much positive content to film in the country and yet, some choose to do the most obscene stuff just for clout... I didn't used to believe that social media is bad but after slowly becoming a boomer, I can see that there's a serious societal decay happening these days. Not even 70s punk or 80s hard rock eras were this bad as what you see today. Nirvana could act like degenerates on stage, but backstage and in public they were professionals, people worthy of respect - something influencers should take note of.
Seriously, for all the good the internet brought, it has also come with a lot of bad, specifically social media. I've been saying since 2015 that it has been slowly poisoning society.
I theorize that people (“influencers”) are becoming more obscene on the internet because it now takes more and more to keep viewers attention spans. Now, there’s always something better or more entertaining to watch, and there is just SO much content out there. Also, 20k views used to be a BIG deal. It’s almost nothing compared to now. But that doesn’t excuse anything, it’s just an observation.
@@difluzi2950 It’s a staple in every Khmer household lol (seriously, you’ll hear it in any family gatherings and when your dad/uncles get drunk and wanna sing karaoke)
The slave camps situation in Cambodia is pretty severe. You can watch No More Bets, that movie is scarier than a horror thriller since you know it's happening out there in the world, even worse.
I'm cambodian, but I was born in Australia. My parents came to Australia because they had escaped from the Khmer Rouge regime and they love going back to their home country to help people in need. It bothers me that people would do something like this, so I am glad to hear they are paying for their disrespect.
sigh… "well if it isnt the consequences of my actions" and why do ppl film their crimes and post it online… like Marques Brownlee filming himself 95mph in a school zone and now this..
"One of the worst jails you can go to" - It really depends massively on your financial situation. They have a VIP jail which is pretty much like an isolated holiday park, and then they have places like Prey Sar which are a fate worse than death. Money talks in Cambodia.
Yo i am Cambodian, love your vids and have been watching for quite some time. Cambodia has been through a lot these past few decades as the Khmer rouge killed a lot of out population and now we are basically trying to revive the country, as during the khmer rouge the avg age of men is 17 yo. after the fall of khmer rouge we have been trying to gain back some face in the global stage as well. what he had done has severally affected Cambodia's rep that we are so proud to have built for now. thanks for covering this story
1:00 I don't think Japan's sentence for Somali was too disappointing. Or perhaps I should say it was rationally correct at the time. He didn't do much (with evidence) beyond being loud & rude in public + he wasn't infamous yet. Deporting him prevents him from being a bother in Japan ever again, who cares about him gloating in a foreign language over the internet. He got way too loose with his criminal behavior in Korea though and commited MANY more crimes of FAR more severe nature, all captured by CCTV/his own stream, all while being globally despised. Hell, the Korean court even has to consider the fact that their eastern neighbors would be happy if they punished him. He's basically a free global PR win lol.
I do think it's somewhat fair they just banned him from the country. As most people don't want their tax payer dollars to support a foreigner in prison. I just wish they hit him with bigger fines or something substantial if they were letting him off from prison time.
Well, after deporting Somali, there are many other youtubers come to Japan and do the same thing again with the local. Many Japanese influencers even have to make a video begging foreign tourists to stop bothering the locals. Japanese now regret giving Somali a very subtle punishment.
The world goverments finally cracking down IRL nuisance streamers after Johnny Somali incident is genuinely for the best of the world. Maybe Johnny was secretly an agent sent to make himself look like absolute idiot to finally wake these people up... Naaah, that's way too smart.

He's another one who's been to school for a year or two and think he knows it all. However, I think the racial slur would be the C slur in a lot of these cases, not the one used in that song.
About the human rights issue: this case is actually primarily about the rule of law and it's not to be confused with empathy for the guy. Upholding human rights in cases such as this one isn't about being lenient or feeling for him. It's about ensuring that the state abides by the rules it set for itself and does not descend into arbitrariness. I mean yes, everyone's fine with scum getting what they deserve but this is just the flip side of favoritism, which nobody likes. Why do you think these scam centers are so widespread in Cambodia? Because the government doesn't hold itself accountable to the rule of its own law. If these officials are fine ignoring procedure to get this guy into jail asap, why should they suddenly care when they see an opportunity to enrich themselves by ignoring organised crime?
It's really beautiful and safe for the most part, if you stay in somewhat touristic areas, but there are still a lot of landmines in the countryside and people get kidnapped. But it has both beautiful nature and great monuments, so if you have time both visit Ankor Wat and visit the wonderful beaches.
It can be safe as long as you take proper precautions. If you are in populated areas like the capital, do not have any expensive gear out in the open unless you are using them. Pickpockets are a thing and a foreigner can be sniffed out even if they themselves have Cambodian heritage.
@@GreenBlueClouds I remember my parents always made my siblings and I stfu whenever we visit Angkor Wat cause apparently locals don’t get charged when they’re entering the temple and they didn’t want them to hear our American accents LOL
A more important question would be why do these platforms continue to monetize this disrespectful, often illegal, behavior? If UA-cam and TikTok removed the financial incentive, these clowns would have to find something else to do. We can't just blame these content creators, we also need to blame the platforms that allow it.
@@chrisz7494I believe a word-for-word translation for that expression is "To keep you is no gain, and to remove you is no loss" where the "remove" part could be interpreted as ending them as well. Edit: The meaning of "remove" here leans toward the phrase "taking someone out of the equation", hence the ending part.
Well done Cambodia! Visited there earlier this year, went to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Loved it, friendly people, great food, nice cities and amazing temples. based. been to Cambodia and I dont understand why ppl keep calling it unsafe. as a Russian I felt great - though i did drugs, did kinda driving without a license, walked at places not recommended for tourists and so on. in theory drugs = prison, in reality I've met lots of great people who helped me out. no police or military or anybody else ever gave a single f neither I ever felt threatened. from my understanding unless you do something that hurts people or reputation of the country in general, you receive very, very warm and even preferential (as a tourist) treatment. People literally offered me food drinks and even drugs for free while I was just waking around. So many great memories! Cambodians are awesome people especially if you treat them with respect and apply some common sense while moving around.
Just wanted to point out, as someone who has visited combodia multiple times, sihanoukville is NOT what it used to be. It used to be a backpackers paradise with amazing beaches and a very chill vibe, now it has practically become a Chinese colony to gamble, as gambling is illegal in China. It is filled with massive newly built casinos and Chinese restaurants, everything is in Chinese, not in Khmer (the Cambodian language). It is completely ruined and there is nothing good about it anymore sadly. The only reason tourists should ever go there is as a direct connection to go to one of the islands which are still really nice (but also starting to have Chinese construction).
you lost your creditability the moment you said that gambling is illegal in china. have you ever heard of Macau? you know the city that is on par with Las Vegas in terms of gamling
i work aboard in cambodia for about 1 year, the country is fine and the people is friendly, the food also delicious, sure there is corruption in the government but because i came from indonesia that shit not really news to me. but as long as you respect other people culture anyone will be nice and tolerance really
Rule of life, that. Corruption everywhere, various degrees in every country. Just keep your wits around you and be respectful to locals and you'll be far far more likely to be fine.
Ok, but if the fake kidnappers supposedly took 4k in USD from him doesn't that mean he wanted us to believe he was just casually holding 4k on him while he was out urban exploring? Like did he not think any of this through?
I am glad you highlighted the case in Cambodia. In case many in the West think S Korea is victimising Johnny and punishing him as an example, many Asian countries actually have strict laws regarding vandalism and behaviour causing social unrest as well as hate and racist speeches. Especially where national pride is concerned, Asians do not take lightly to the sovereignty being disrespected after emerging from the turbulent war times. The jail time of at least a few years should be good for rehabilitating Johnny to learn how to behave with basic human decency and to appreciate the freedom he had before. His family should not need to be worried as the Korean government and prison authorities will want him alive to deport him after he has finished his sentence.
To be fair, this issue about nuisance streamers is very new, and most countries dont have direct laws to charge a person like Chicken. Charges would usually be indirect from their actual crime, and so the punishments are also both meager and can be weak to prosecute with. I believe that's what happened in both Japan and Israel with Somali. The crimes he can be charged with were indirect and would just be a bother/ waste of taxpayer funds to commit to. What's great though is that the public is getting acquainted with this issue and can push their country's lawmakers to make laws that address this more.
You did an AMAZING job on this video. No wasted narration, no stopping to make your own long comments just to be seen and no annoying promo interupts. TYSM! I watched the whole video, didn't FFwrd and I SUBSCRIBED!! 😊😊😊😊

He only got away because he seemed remorseful and also it was his first country where he got arrested. Japan didnt know how unapologetic he was until after he left the country. Our country is now famous in Asia for fraud. My brother is a policeman. He said that 9 out of 10 people interrogated in the detention center are fraudsters. We have fraudsters who can defraud more than 6 million US dollars a day, but basically Our government has not responded much to the skyrocketing crime rate every year. It has only recently increased the prison sentences, ranging from 1 to 10 years. However, fraudsters have also found ways to deal with it. They are looking for young people from Southeast Asia to use tourist visas to come to our country. The cost of committing fraud is relatively small. Our government has screwed up the country so much that young people don’t have much hope for the future. However, they will say that GDP and housing prices are very good, and the country is full of hope.

Yeah I hope JS sentence should be longer than Tay-K sentence tbh, which is more than 55 years

Yea even Thailand is low key becoming the human trafficking hub for those scammer centers in Myanmar

As a human with internet access I found your comment hilarious and original. You guys make the internet a fun place to be.
The Cambodian rock classics will never get old!
@@difluzi2950i would love to learn more about this genre. What are some of your favorite artists??
I theorize that people (“influencers”) are becoming more obscene on the internet because it now takes more and more to keep viewers attention spans.

Next year, I will travel to Cambodia and support the normal tourism industry.

If he had the brains to think this through, he would have never done it
This was really interesting stuff I had no idea about. thanks for making this video
I've never seen anyone defending Scummy Somali ngl, I think it's just a small percentage of delusional people
Fascinating. All I've seen are Americans wishing that South Korea government will throw him in jail. 🤝
I haven't heard anyone in the west criticizing Korea regarding Somali. They're actually criticizing Japan for not putting him in jail.
@@blureader1164He'll probably get more jail time in other countries under worse conditions.
Many cases? Liar.

Their grandparents took away their future and pulled the ladder behind so their offspring can't go after them.
Their parents were too busy trying to make ends meet and let the TV and computer be their babysitter.
Their education system got shackled and gutted and privatized because of the "Child left behind" policy.
And they got told that they're American and so they're Number One.
They had no chance.
Whoa, this is wild! 😳 It's crazy to think how a simple mistake or poor decision can spiral into something this serious. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how someone could end up in a Cambodian prison over a UA-cam stunt. It's a harsh reminder that some actions have consequences that go way beyond what you expect. Definitely not the kind of fame you want! 🙈
Third time coming to Cambodia. I was told many concerning things. Such as no travel at night, bandits everywhere, scams everywhere, lots of crime, etc. My experience is perfectly pleasant. People are nice, food is good, wats are awesome, night buses are fine and visa on arrival process in fast and efficient (second time I came, it was the old photo and paperwork method and that was a nightmare, almost didn’t come back because of that process). It’s a Great place to visit and I will definitely be coming back again and again in the future.
I would think some of those things might've been true not that long ago since there was political chaos in the country so I don't think whichever government could bother with those things when every time there is a election a riot is about to break out. But the situation is a lot more stable now.
To be honest with you, the only thing that scares me in Cambodia is some of the foreigners.
Our country is like Minecraft. When it night just don't go out or else you might lost a head
We has a peaceful time until our government try to give Vietnam some province
Don't travel at night because there are some terrible drivers.

Honestly, they should consider themselves lucky that they *ONLY* got 2 years.
for pulling a hoax on the internet? Compared to what other influencers have done for views this is really nothing, wouldn’t even be illegal in most countries so 2 years was most definitely not lucky.
@@justyoureverydaypig3716
They didn't just create a hoax _on the internet._ They created a panic in real life. The police used up resources and man-power in trying to find what they thought was a kidnapped and tortured tourist. Their internet hoax flooded into the real world.
Correction, Solami did get put in jail for a couple of weeks, before being kicked out of Japan. And at the time, the things he did had not escalated to the point it is now. If it was modern day Solami and friends, they most probably would spend more time in jail and harsher punishment.

tbf for Japan in regards to Johnny Somali, he did spend roughly 3 months in jail while awaiting trial. He only got away because he seemed remorseful and also it was his first country where he got arrested. Japan didnt know how unapologetic he was until after he left the country. South Korea should not let him go easily this time thou. They got too many evidence + his past behavior when he got away in Japan should be considered when sentencing him. He's barred from leaving the country but still roaming freely because they don't want to use taxpayers' money on him to keep him in jail.
10:52 they’re only sorry because they got caught
And that shit is so embarrassing because you know the officers we’re not moved
I don’t wish two years in a Cambodian prison on anyone. But these influencers are out of control.
A fella I met in Cambodia ended up getting 6 months in prison there. He refused to let some people in to the compound he was living in to get their escaped cow. The police ended up involved and they discovered the weed he was growing.
6 months for growing weed is like a slap on the wrist in south east Asia.
@@blarfroer8066 To be fair he only had about 6-8 plants. Not exactly commercial. From what I can make out in Cambodia, as long as you pay off the right people, then weed is legal-ish.
@@IamNoone67 south east Asia is infamous for draconic laws about weed and the like. 500g of weed can result in a death penalty in some countries.

As a Taiwanese, when we saw this news while having dinner, we just said "hell yeeh"

He's lucky that the infamous Cambodian prison S-21 is no longer in use.
That was only for the harsh KR communist regime. Even though the prison seems to be terrible, I don’t think Cambodia in regular mode would have anything like S-21.
10:30 I know this is unlikely, but now imagine if the cambodian government was actually the one who set him up to cover human trafficking
Possible
Yes, Cambodia has a lot of corruption, but the government didn't 'force' them to go to Cambodia, and did what they did.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing, I was wondering if they were looking to save face so they framed them with the uniforms and costume items. It actually makes sense to me especially with the lack of due process and trial.
Worse than an "influencer": "Influencer collaborator."
He was all fair and square until he showed his friend in the military suit implying the government being involved in human trafficking.
If he had left it at a random guard, it would have eased them a bit more.
Ofc - just dont fake it at all.. if you want to search for them, actually search for them even if they might not even exist as trafficking spots / not finding them.
