    Very good presentation. I will be doing this on a 2014 Escape. I set my oil drain container on a platform, closer to the drain plug, for my '93 K-2500 p/u in order to avoid that big initial arc of oil that caused you to move the cardboard. I just set newspaper under my drain bucket to catch random drops. Trucks with ground clearance are best for doing oil changes and other maintenance, which makes for an easy slide under without jacks and ramps. I lay on heavy cardboard found at the main Boulder County recyke drop off station.

    Dude, your closing comments "It looks like it's overfilled, I don't even know". THATS THE REASON I'M HERE! lol. Changing the oil on a 2.5L 2013 Ford Fusion - Same engine. It turns out the oil dipstick on this engine is read in reverse - It is normal for there to be oil all up the dipstick, the "fill" and "full" holes are reversed. The very tip of the dipstick, to the first hole from the tip, is supposed to be dry.

  • @wastedyears6653
    @wastedyears6653 2 роки тому

    Make sure the engine is warm, not hot, before you start. This allows the oil to flow and drain easier and more completely. Open the oil filler cap on the engine before removing the drain plug on the oil pan. Also, clean the shoulder where the oil filter seals to the block and spread oil around the oil filter gasket (rubber ring) before screwing it on.

    Good video. I think FORD could have used hex head bolts instead of TORX ...GEEz... Good idea getting help from your son... Way to teach your son about cars. BTW , I love FRAM grippy filters. If you think oil is hard to get in , show the coolant cap. This is a hard car to work on ....

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  8 років тому +2

      If you think the torx head screws and the coolant cap is ridiculous, try changing your battery in your Escape. You practically have to remove the engine to do it. I'd fire the designers and engineers who come up with this nonsense. The only thing I can think of is that they do it on purpose so the average person cant do it without the proper tools. That way, people are forced to use mechanics, and preferably THEIR mechanics at the Ford service department.

    FYI, for the 2.5L engine in my 2014 Escape, the oil specified is 5W-30, not 5W-20 in the video. I've looked at a number of these instructional videos and posts, and nearly all of them spec 5W-20. But 5W-30 is right on my engine's oil cap. I use Mobil 1 and an extended interval M1-102A filter, so I only need to change the oil once a year. Some of the T30 Torx screws holding the under tray in place were missing. You can get them from your local O'Reilly's or Autozone store or you can get a set of 10 from Amazon for about $10.

      Are you perhaps outside the US, because the American manual says to use 5w20 oil meeting Ford Spec WSS-M2C945-A for the 1.6L EcoBoost and the 2.5L N/A engine. If you're in the US at some point someone put the wrong oil cap on it.

    • @ricardoschmidt1126
      @ricardoschmidt1126 3 роки тому

      I got the 5w20 cap on my 2.5L 2014. For some reason the first services at the agency they said and put 5w30 in it, it even mentions this in the owners manual. After 30k km and the 2 year warranty expired I started doing the oil change by myself with 5w20 as the cap says and the runs smoother with a higher mpg average than before. Now with 110k km ill stick to 5w20 for the rest of his life.

    • @brandonupchurch7628
      @brandonupchurch7628 3 роки тому +2

      There's not really a whole lot of difference between 5w30 and 5w20, most 5w30 unless you buy the stuff for european cars is API resource conserving or ILSAC and runs pretty thin for grade, it's not drastically thicker than 20 grade maybe 15%

      @marknyhart5719 5 років тому

      Depends on your climate where you live and drive. Here in Arizona they recommend 5w-30 Synthetic Blend, or Full Synthetic. Try to find a manufacturer sticker on your car somewhere that should have the recommended motor oil weight. The oil sticker should be under the hood, near where the replacement oil goes in. If in doubt, try calling an oil change business in your area. Ask them their recommendation. Most businesses like that will be helpful even if you decide not to use their services. Hope this helps. ALSO, .......IF you still have the owners manual/service manual that originally came with the car, there should be maintenance schedules in the back that most times will give you the recommended oil weight specifications for your car.

    No mention of the drain plug gasket. In fact, I didn't see one on the bolt at all. I am prep'ing for a change of 2014 2.5L, and the FoMoCo replacement plug is 12-1.75 and has a rubber gasket with a raised lip around the perimeter (auto parts store didn't have just the gasket). Really not very confident about this...

    Great clip of "how to", but I tend to say no to Fram filters. I've cut many apart and they are garbage! Stay with a higher quality filter. Just because it's priced right has zero to do with quality. I'm a Wix Filter user. Better quality inside, what you can't see, and I can live without the grip.

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  7 років тому

      +Bill R ---> thank you. I worry about a filter that claims they "last longer". What does that mean? Does that mean they don't filter out everything on the first pass? I'm not saying that Wix makes that claim. But, I am going to do my oil changes on time, and if I cut open the filter, I want it to be filthy at 3000 miles. That tells me it's keeping the oil clean....

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  8 років тому +1

      +177bandit Hi. Yeah, maybe so. Sometimes I buy what's on sale or what's available. For example, home Depot now sells oil and filters for cars, but the synthetic oil they sell is penzoil not Mobil 1. And they only sell Fram filters there. I did my Toyota the other day and saved at least 15 bucks over going to pep boys or auto zone. So, the Fram filter was probably on sale that day, that's all.

    • @reitanfamily
      @reitanfamily 7 років тому +1

      What is on sale means zero. I've been in parts industry for over 30 years. Every time someone who wants to buy cheap brakes I try to change there mind. You have your family in that car ! Same with filters. Wix, Napa, and others are much better quality filters. Anyone could buy a $3.00 filter, but you get what you pay for. I've seen a Fram filter collapse and suck in because they are trash.

    It's funny how the under carriage shields are too flimsy to provide any real protection and they don't help with aero either because they only cover the engine not the whole car. Ford wont admit it but the shields real purpose is to catch engine oil leaks before they land on your driveway. I guess they gave up on building an engine that doesn't leak. LOL
