I watched this video two times through before attempting this repair and then walked through each step. I was successful in making this repair. Two things I did that are not mentioned in the video that helped immensely was 1: cup and label all screws and brackets. 2: wear blue nitril gloves when handling the scan glass.

Followed this procedure and now have backlighting. It was not that difficult, just take your time and don't force anything apart. One thing ShopJimmy could do to improve the video is show how to remove the ribbon cables at the 2:20 mark. The clip actually hinges away from the end of the ribbon. If you don't know this, you could force the cable out and damage it. Kudos to ShopJimmy for providing this to their customers!

just did this. Took about an hour using video to guide. be careful when taking off the ribbon cables. There is a flip up "thingy" that releases them. Don't just pull on them (like I did!).
    Pretty straightforward and easy.

Repaired my tv! Thanks for the video. 3 things to add: 1) He makes the back cover look easy to remove. It isn't, it is not just screwed on, but snapped on. 2) If your tv is a few years old, it will be dusty. It took some time for me to give it a good cleaning. 3) Most importantly, the connectors at the center of the light strips are not all the same, but are staggered somewhat in length. You must match the holes on the reflector board with the connectors and all lights. Don't stick them on before you check this, like I did. Hope this helps.

This video is fantastic. I had a tough time getting the back panel off. I just had to muscle it. One of the clips broke but I was able to put it back together. The hardest part was keeping track of all the screws. The other thing was making sure the new led strips laid flat. I had to slightly twist them (do this carefully). Having them lay flat means they will stick better.

Worked great! Finished job in less than 2 hours. My TV was the 47” version of the Visio TV. It has 12 LED strips instead of 10. Otherwise, exactly the same. Have a clean workspace, good lighting, and a muffin pan to keep your screws organized as you disassemble. Keep your kids and pets away. Thank you for this video. I ordered my LEDs from shopjimmy

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome. Thank you so much. I have the E420d-a0 and had already replaced the power and main board but TV still wouldn't power on. My Vizio after pressing the power button would do nothing and the power light would fade off. About 1000 talk about this same issue, but nobody ever said what would fix it. I found a random post on the internet saying if a LED strip goes out, the power board will go into a self protection mode, go down in voltage (as mine did using a voltmeter from your other video) and could prevent the TV from powering on. Yes a busted LED strip can prevent the whole TV from turning on. I ordered the light strips from you, followed this video step by step, and the TV WORKS! I really wanted to save this Vizio as it's a 3D TV and they aren't made anymore. It was worth me replacing parts. THANK YOU!

I received my strips this week. Installed them today. Voila! It worked! Thanks so much. The two ribbon cables gave me fits re-attaching them until I figured out they don't just insert. There's like a rocker arm you flip down, insert the cable, then flip the rocker arm back up. Otherwise, everything went smoothly.

Successfully replaced the LEDs in my E550i-A0 using this video. Couple of minor differences with the 55" (i.e. You don't need to remove the boards to push out the reflector clips; there is also a long wire connected to the top of the inner filter bezel that I believe is just a ground, can be removed easily during repair). Thank you so much for the video and parts, saved me a lot of money!

You might want to get a "spudger" tool. There are little clips all the way around the seam that hold the two pieces together, that tool can help a lot with those. Took me a while even with that, just have to be slow and careful.

Great guide. Replaced my LEDs and the set works perfect now. Was surprised to see that my Vizio E470-A0, despite all Vizio documentation and packaging referring to it as edge lit, is in fact not an edge lit tv. As you can see in this video, there are in fact no leds around the edges of the set. Strange.

Yes it should work. Just take your time and you might have to make a few passes around the case to get the back cover to separate from all of the little plastic clips. And yes it made it a lot easier and gave confidence that I wasn't going to damage anything.

Great video. Two things though. 1. Don’t let the led strips touch the metal before you connect them to the distributor board and/or to each other. They are extremely sticky. I 2. Be extremely careful with the dark screen it bends easily and lay it on a flat surface and use two people. I moved mines alone and cracked it. I have the same model in the video(e420i-a0) so if anyone needs brand new led lamps or the power board or the other board or speakers, let me know and we can work out a really cheap deal.

There's also a line running across the display one of those common problems, any solutions for these issues? Primarily the former since the line isn't really as much of an eye sore as flicking lines and images everywhere.

Quick question....Picked up a Samsung on side of road with led burnt. Any possible quick fix or must I replace whole strip? Also even though a strip is removed I should still be able to turn the tv on to see if rest of lights work. If this is not true please tell me. I can get them to blink but that is it. That is with 1 strip out.

When troubleshooting I stripped down to the LEDS. They're blinking slowly and dimly. While trying to test voltages on them occasionally a strip or two will light up. Is there a way I can tell which strip is bad? Or safe bet to just replace them all? I was getting. 130v. On the psu board.

I have an LG with the same exact issue. It is because one or more individual LED lights have burned out and the tv is preventing them all from turning on. The tv senses a drop in resistance or something in the strips with burnt out lights so it wont let any come on for more than a second. You can see the screen with a flashlight right? I am going to attempt to fix my LG with LED strips out of a Vizio. They look identical. I'll post back to let everyone know how that goes and if it works. Tried to solder individual LED's in the LG but I couldn't find the correct size LED's, hopefully the strips may be the same in the Vizio. I'm trying to avoid paying around 100 bucks online for all new LED strip set.

The three that were not working connected to the wires that are labeled LED 1- and LED 1+ on the power BOARD. Jordan I have the same problem (indeed I had this problem for a while before the TV failed, so now I am afraid same thing will happen again with the new LEDs). I have the Vizio E470i-A0, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions (out of 6 horizontal positions) are not working. Did you have the same problem? Do you think these positions could correspond to LED 1 or 2 (I would've thought they would be split in half in order as in 123, and 456; instead of 234, 156 like what I'm seeing). I'm thinking my issue could even be the distributor board strip.

I have a Vizio 42" E420i-BO Smart TV. If you plug it in, it will either 1: do absolutely nothing 2: power on and display the vizio logo continuously and not allow you to do anything and/or lose power or "reboot" randomly 3: it will work okay for a minute, then power off. Tv had been out of commission for about 6 months until i decided to try seeing how difficult replacing the main board or power supply board would be. Bought a used power supply board for $10. Put it in and eventually concluded that the TV does the same thing with the "new" board installed. I just ordered the complete tv repair kit from shopjimmy.com. Does this not seem to be a power issue? When the TV will actually turn on, the backlight, remote sensor, panel, picture, inputs, apps, memory all seemed to work fine. In theory, the kit should fix this problem, correct? Does this model also have a t con board that could potebtially be the problem or is it built onto the main board?

You are right Victor., once I tried to get the remote sensor by myself, and couldn't get the stupid cover off, so I decided to bring it to a technician after telling him I knew it was the sensor. It cost me near $100 parts and labor.

When removing the tape around the perimeter of the light case (5:27), do you need new tape to replace the old?

    • @jawether1769
      @jawether1769 7 років тому

I found the tape does not need to be removed. Each bracket will hinge away from the case. Just be careful when handling the casing during subsequent steps.

Would replacing the leds on a vizio e470i a0 be similar to this?

Replaced the LED strips and tested them - they work. Put the rest of the TV back together and no picture at all. We have audio but somehow we lost the picture. Really infuriating considering how much time we spent on this project. Any ideas? Please help

I literally just called a local tv and computer repair place and told the guy that my 47inch vizio's LED'S on the top and bottom were going out cause the picture was dim except the middle and he told me i would have to buy a whole new screen and pannel or what ever other than just replacing the LEDs.Was he trying to screw me over? -____-

Jason Koutsunis actually not bad at all, it all came apart pretty easily for me and the video is easy to follow. But I'll be honest, I bought the strips for the 42 inch and I have the 47 inch. Lol so now I'm waiting for them to get restocked on shopjimmy.

Thanks for the video guide!!! I just installed new backlights in my 47" Vizio and I got my lights working, but I created a new problem. I now have a vertical gray band on the right side of my screen and some small horizontal bands across the bottom of the screen. I uploaded some pictures at: goo.gl/1EY6CB. Does any reading this know how to fix my new problem? Thank you!!!
