The Ramones were the most influential punk band of them all. Not only did their ‘louder, faster’ musical philosophy create the sound of punk, their look and attitude and style have created fans all over the world.
As well as directly inspiring British punk bands such as the Sex Pistols and the Clash, many other bands and artists like Motörhead, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Pearl Jam, The Foo Fighters, U2, Tom Waits and Kiss have paid tribute to the Ramones and covered their songs.
Twenty years after the band broke up in 1996 and with all the original band members now dead, the band's legacy and impact continues to grow: an estimated 2 million Ramones t-shirts have been sold, many of them to people who have never listened to their music. What there has never been is a book for the true Ramones fan. Until now…
In 1990, a young German fan Flo Hayler started his collection of Ramones memorabilia with the ticket stub, poster and shirt from his first Ramones gig. In the coming years he got to know the band and their entourage and spent thousands of euros on photos and memorabilia, covering every inch of his Berlin apartment. Eventually, his girlfriend put her foot down and in 2005, one year after Johnny Ramone’s death, the only RAMONES MUSEUM in the world opened its doors to the public.
And now it's time to turn the museum into a book. Flo knows everything and everyone that ever mattered in the history of The Ramones. He met and talked with all the band members, interviewed their partners, managers, producers as well as other bands and musicians who revered them. He knows stuff about the band that hardly anyone else knows…
Gathering together unseen photos, memorabilia and personal items from the collection of the RAMONES MUSEUM, it will be much more than a regular biography, it will be the dream book for true fans of the coolest punk rock band that ever existed.
