    I Bought the same gun for the same price. I Love it. It's shooting great right out of the box. 2''-3'' groups at 50 yards Standing, once I put it on the bench, I was getting 1''-1.5'' groups. I'll probably eventually ditch the buckhorn rear sights, but for now I don't think they are that bad. The fit and finish is really nice, and the action is smooth. I took a wooden rod and lightly flexed the loading gate simulating the loading process for a few minutes now it feels like I've loaded hundreds of rounds. These really are great guns for the price.

    I bought the same 16 inch model about 4 years ago. Paid $450 back then. Lol
    Even at $600+ now, they are a bargain. The wood on your rifle is quite a bit nicer than my rifle. I did refinish mine, and now its beautiful. I did have the same stiff, rough action initially. A full disassembly and a bit of polishing, and bam. It is slick as butter.
    Nice review. Enjoy the rifle. Just subscribed

      That's awesome brother! And yes sometimes they're right or really close when you're lucky ,but not in my case with the elevator off i was shooting about 4 inches high at 25 I had the same problem with my Henry 22, I ended up putting a scope on that one.The only one close out of the box my Henry 30-30 so far.

  • @dhession64
    @dhession64 10 місяців тому +2

    I had the same problem with the sights on my R92. Using 158gr rounds helped (I used 125gr at first and was hitting two feet high at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way up, silly me) and it was worse at 50 yds. Pulling the elevator slide out helped a lot, but what put it right on target was 158gr 38spl+p RN lead bullets. Very little recoil and very accurate in my rifle. I had to use the 357 mags for deer, and I've taken two with it. One shot each with the Federal 158gr hunting loads (the name escapes me). The first deer left a red spray trail on either side of the path it took, and piled up about 50 or 60 yards away; the second one stopped sooner. Both were about 40-50 yards away. My state allows rifle rounds to be used in rifles now, so it's in a semi-retirement. I bought a Ruger GP100 about twenty or so years ago, so I have ammo compatibility between them when I take 'em both out into the field. If you shoot bare handed with the Ruger, get some replacement grips from Hogue, as the rosewood panels in the rubber grips causes some pinching between the rubber and the wood when you fire. If you wear gloves, you'll have no issues.
    I see that you have a video on the rail you used to replace the buckhorn sight. I'm rather fond of the original sights, so I kept 'em. I will watch your follow up vid.
    Well done, sir. Thank you.

      Thanks brother! I really appreciate you watching and commenting 💯...that's great to hear my friend, so far the red dot sight is doing very well on this little rifle and in my opinion more fun to shoot now but don't get me wrong I also really like iron sights when they work lol. It's nice to hear about the capabilities of this round for hunting, I've never hunted before but I would really like to have the chance one day with it. Thanks again my brother I'll catch you later 👍

    $600-$700 is what a brand new Marlin 336 should cost, not a Rossi.
    I do own this rifle in 45 Colt. It’s got a smooth action. No issues. The loading gate did start to loose its bluing. Not a big deal. I don’t care for the safety, but is small and not intrusive. I just ignore it and never use it as the rifle does have the old school hammer safety notch. The tall buckhorn rear sight is adequate, though a little weird. I’d rather have half buckhorn sights like on a Winchester 94.

    I have the 16" Saddle ring carbine, same as yours but I have the ring and a larger lever loop. I agree that this is a great handling light carbine. It's just too much fun. However, if you happen to be a reloader and I am an avid reloader, you should examine your spent brass for a bulge near the head of the case. This is not desirable for reloaders because it causes a weak spot on the brass. I was able to modify a shell holder to force the brass deeper into the sizing die which removes the bulge but the weak spot is still there and this reduces the lifespan of the case. If you only shoot factory ammo, then this does not effect you. I did not get bulged cases with .38 Special or .38+P but I bought this for .357 Magnum specifically. It's just something that reloaders should be aware of and I like this carbine too much to get rid of it.

      They have a spring kit you can get for this rifle. It helps control the ejection, and lightens the trigger. I think these are good guns for the money like you said. The tooling inside is or can be a little rough. But there are videos on how to properly polish the internals to make these rifles butter smooth. Another trick I have seen is to take it apart and put rubbing compound on the internals and work the action to smooth it out. But then you have to take it apart again and clean it up. Years ago these guns were a lot less money nearly half the price. But worth it if you had any gun smithing skills. These days the tooling and Quality Control has gotten better.
