This is not Doom running on Mega Drive. This is running on a FPGA. That's a very important distinction for those who are wondering. Now, there is an ACTUAL Doom for the 32x and an amazing enhancement hack recently created. This is running on actual Mega Drive, but with the 32x.
Well, Doom doesn't run on either Mega Drive or SNES. It is either the SFX2 chip, the 32x or the FPGA which does run it. But I like this version because many like to say that Mega Drive couldn't run this game even with builtin chip on cartridge, which this one here proves wrong.
It is running on an FPGA that is running on the Megadrive as an enhancement chip. That means it is in a cartridge that is inserted in the console while someone plays the game with Genesis controllers. How long have you been the President of American Mensa?
WoooW it looks, plays and sounds good on a genesis,so even if the fpga chip is responsible for running this game, it’s amezing that those rendered graphics getting down converted on the fly into 64 colors using dithering, composite video blurring and color smoothing blending to preserve most of it’s image quality, i guess the rendered sound could be piped and streamed trough the genesis 8bit audio dac,so this is definitely incredible, Now if only the snes will get such treatment to get doom 2 for it,no fx2 chip, no reuse of the snes doom 1 reality engine, no the snes should need a fpga chip on the cartride as well to make it run all smooth while for it’s audio, instead of cramming all samples within that 64kB ram, they should use that 64KB ram as an audio buffer instead to allow streaming audio trough it instead, why nobody has ever done this on the snes yet is beyond me.

This is unbelievable! So, you are telling me this is possible on a regular Sega Megadrive? Or it has to be modded? This could have been released back in the day, or it can work only on a powered up modded Megadrive?
The "Mega Everdrive Pro" is a flash-cart that contains its own processor, which this version of DOOM is using.. Essentially the cart's processor is just using the Mega Drive to read in inputs and its force-feeding pixel and sound data to the VDP and sound chips... So the Mega Drive isn't "modded", but to say it could have been released back in the day puts you squarely into figuring out how much that processor would have cost to include into the cartridge "back in the day" - which considering the closest things Sega themselves released were the co-processor they shoved into the $100 MSRP Virtua Racing for Sega Genesis and the 32X add-on.... Would have been pricey... With everything I have seen regarding 3D on stock Sega Mega Drive hardware, I have not seen very much anything close to someone attempting DOOM or even Duke Nukem 3D ( using the BUILD engine style not the Wolf3D thing TecToy did an AMAZING job with !) .... on the Mega CD.... Where the Mega CD adds RAM, almost doubles the raw CPU power in play AND adds hardware sprite scaling/rotation.... Things you could use to slap some textures on somewalls for sure.. But then considering how 32X DOOM panned out, maybe the Mega CD even couldn't hope to do all this using only stock processing power.
@@Genesis814 yeah, I think I wandered past it clicking links through their mode7 stuff. It would be nice to see this game run on the Genesis with more colors.
I hope they also develop a version that can run on emulators. Everdrives can be quite expensive, even the cheapest ones, in some parts of the world.
I think this depends on the emulator and not the game.
