Well we were that age too when we first saw it back in the day so cudos to the Dad for showing his children what we experienced as kids. Its Like passing on the torch.
Earlier this year I took my son to go see the live action film that came out. He didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as I thought he would.
Not long later I showed him the animated movie at his grandparent’s house and he loved the animated movie so much more! Proud Dad moment there!

They did that back then to get a PG rating so it would be played past the matinee times to try and get more money and not be stuck in the G rated time slots.
Ehhh blame or not , didn't want my 5 and 7 yr old to hear the language...they'll repeat... Lol
When I was a kid I didn't know any other kid who hadn't heard that word from another kid or their own parents...
That was a pretty slick edit by RP though. The first few times I showed it to my kids I just muted it. I forgot I had the old VHS tape where that is edited out entirely 😅
I absolutely loved seeing your daughter dance to the opening theme. That was so precious. You can tell she is truely into the characters and world. 😁

Nothing better than seeing our kids react to what we grew up on. I feel so bad for our kids with the garbage that is in their generation now

@paulheap1982 you're not wrong. Lol. However I do think the 80's lines of cartoon were some of the best for the targeted age group. Even though they were long commercials. They had more substance and moral direction than almost anything that came after. I feel like kids dont get that these days with toys and cartoons. Not very much good world building or characters to really relate too or admire. All the shows back then had great fleshed out worlds and such. It wasnt like shows like The Fairly Odd Parents, or Ed,Edd,and Eddie. Sure the characters themselves may have been ok. But they lacked moral direction and any real sense of world building. But you are right. Every generation thinks that. Lol

Kids have good taste in characters! My first g1 toy was Brawn, so when Gabriel said he was his favorite, I got a little shock in my spark 😢. I saw this in theaters as a kid and was devastated at certain parts.

@thomaspayton436 what was hasbro thinking!? I know...sell newer model toys, but you can't just flush beloved characters. For many, like me, who didn't have a father in the house, the example of Optimus, He-Man, Lion-O Yoda, etc, helped give me a just and heroic male figure to look up to.
@@thinkbeyond3457that's what I said, why did they have to do it that way?!? So shocking for kids and even teens and adults! My poor son was so sad about Brawn, broke my heart! He was OK later but took a bit.. 😢
Poor little guy, that was pretty much how our entire generation reacted to that movie! It was really awesome to see how much your daughter enjoyed the movie though!

Awww! You can see they were very eager to watch the movie! And I'm so sorry you're son was upset about brawn. I know the feeling when I watched this movie when it came out. It was depressing watching your favorite characters get killed.
Transformers The Movie 1986 is without a doubt, the greatest animated movie of all time, it´s a masterpiece of cinema
I have to agree. I have it on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray. It's the only animated movie I have in all three formats.

As I had brought up over on Twitter, I saw a fan's story a couple years ago, him and a group of friends went to see this in theaters, and the shuttle attack scene destroyed them. Each of them had a favorite character that was killed.

As a gen z kid, who grew up with animated, prime, the first 3 bay films, and of course g1. This is so wholesome, I first saw this movie when I was 5 with my dad( who grew up with g1, but didn’t see the movie) anyways one day when I have kids of my own, I show em the original cartoon and the movie. Keep up the good work rodimus primal.

A girl after my own heart. I loved Skyfire (obviously) and Starscream. Skyfires attitude is similar to mine, and I just loved that Starscream knew what he wanted and went for it every chance he got.

@@RodimusPrimal Yeah, I remember holding out hope until the credits when I first watched it too. My favorite was Ironhide but Brawn was up there. I held out hope for years, since I figured that Brawn wouldn't go out to a mere shoulder wound.
I think it's so great that you introduced this classic movie to your kids and that you had them watch the original series that way they know the characters even more. The new movies now don't have hardly any of the original line and look very different from the cartoon line. I remember when this came out in the theaters...... I was about 11 and it was the greatest thing😂🙏👌👌👌 I remember how the music in the movie was really advanced and new. Such great memories thank you God🙏

So nice to see kids watching this good old original and legendary movie from the 1980s and learn how the old classic G1 transformers was like back then before every incarnations throughout the later medias, comics, TV Shows, live actions and more.

Congratulations for finally showing your kids the old TF movie Rodimus! I enjoyed both their reactions, I feel sorry for Gabriel (I have a brother named Gabriel too btw). Aerith (your daughter) on the other hand had an amazing reaction to the whole thing. I hope to have a daughter like her when I have kids and I get them into Transformers just like me!

Your son reacting to Brawn was my exact reaction to Dargon going down with the hyve in Sectaurs :( Dargon escapes from the rubble I was told, but on our taped off tv vhs it instantly goes into Winnie the Pooh lol. Glad to see the 86 movie still holds up with kids today!
It bums me sm that I made the mistake of watching the movie first instead of the series because I had assume I could've watched it without watching the series due to the fact I never expected it to be so intense. I'm glad you guided your kids out with this. Heck I'm glad you're sharing your interests with then as well. My family will never stop teasing me about buying TF's/dolls and watching cartoons/anime even though supposedly I should've grown out of it(Don't worry tho I'm slowly trying to get them into it too lol I'm gonna get them to watch the Spanish dub of 80s TF)

This reminded me of myself and the reaction to seeing Optimus diw in the theater... Of course that trauma was short lived.. lol I loved their reactions so much. YOu have a couple of wonderful kiddos there!

I have my 3 1/2 year old obsessed with g1, watched the series 5 times through. He loves Shockwave and Ultra Magnus, and Starscream. He's watched the movie at least 5 times he loves transformers
I wish I could see children reacting to movies more often. They usually have so much more emotion than adults.
Best part of this video was seeing Rodimal being more excited than his kids about the Dinobots kicking and chewing and burning Unicron’s ass. 😂

I was 12 in ‘86. My dad KNEW taking me to see this was GONNA happen. But I think he bought me the soundtrack (an actual record) because I bugged the living hell outta him and my mom for weeks.
My dad also showed me this movie when I was a kid after watching alot of G1 episodes on DVD. I was so sad to see wheeljack had died. And Optimus Prime's death really hit hard
I still loved the movie though and it's one of my all time favorites to this day.
Awesome video. My kids were probably about the same age when I introduced them to TF:TM. They hadn't seen all 65 S1& 2 episodes, but a fair amount of them. I didn't say a word though, I just kind of let them all take it in, and they didn't seem too bothered by it. But it's definitely an experience that takes a lot of preparation no matter how it's presented to kids. Great job as always RP.

Awesome!!! I showed the movie to my boys when they were younger and they loved it! I showed to my youngest daughter and she was watching it a little when she was younger. I have not shown it again. She is older now. But I hope she will like it.

You heard what they said about their favorite Autobots and Decepticons, they are really cute!! Erik and Gabriel can make anyone melt, they are so innocent at this point!! This is nice way bond with your children before they are too old to do so!!! Transform and roll out!!!
37+ years later, and the same shocking effect that blindsided us all when this first released can still have the same effect on kids today. It just reaffirms how huge a mistake Hasbro made when they considered them just toys and not characters we all got emotionally attached to. At least they had you to kind of soften the blow a little, letting them know what to expect, and to comfort them after. That aside, watching their positive reactions like dancing to the music is so adorable. Hopefully they continue to enjoy the TF universe as much as we do as they grow up, and you can pass along your TF Discussions "matrix of leadership" for the next generation when the time comes ❤ Happy New Year to you and yours.
Interesting that after the fight with Optimus, Megatron/Galvatron spent the rest of the movie being in some type of pain and turmoil.

I agree Blurr is an awesome character, and he was a great addition in the movie. In fact, the different iterations of Blurr were what inspired my alias, BlurrtheLegend, as well as a different one that I use sometimes, Blurrimus Prime. I love the idea of Blurr potentially becoming a Prime after Rodimus Prime.
In my head I justify the whole "The year is 2005" thing by reasoning that if sentient alien robots came to Earth in the 80's, the world would have to advance very quickly to accommodate them. Thus, in the year 2005, there can be moon bases and Autobot cities, as well as the 80's Futurism that we see in the Movie and Third Season.
Soundwave and Starscream are the most iconic bad guys and were my favourite, too❤😊 I also had both toys, unfortunately i sold them over 35 years ago

Great video! Your daughter had some great reactions but your son takes the cake at the end, when the realization sets in. Of course, we don't want them to be sad but it's a rite of passage y'know? One of my highlights of being a dad was showing my kids the 86 animated movie in a big private home theater. Had a big Transformers party invited the cousins, everyone got toys from the movie after we watched it, had decorations cakes ect. Spent two years showing my kids season 1 and 2 before showing them the movie. It was great. Hope to do it again with my grandkids as I have an entire g1 cartoon continuity collection waiting to give them.
Now that is the way to raise your children. I did the same to my son, now he thinks he knows more than me. I'm working on my daughter next. Awesome video, til all are one.
