The reason John died is because you didn’t make him heroic. The reason everyone else survived is because everyone else fought their demons off by themselves(with the exception of Angela, who survived because you made her a nice person).

The mother at the beginning must've was talking about their pastor concerns about Anthony (the bus driver) and not Meaghan to the alcoholic father. Anthony is an unreliable narrator.
If you had found more secrets the ending would have made a lot more sense
Not sure it was an issue of it not making sense. It was a super slow game with very little action for the player.
