im in university right now almost 1,200 miles away from home. destiny is my dad and i's favorite game, when im home we play together every night. since i can't play the new expansion until i go home, i'm watching this video instead! my dad and I have been playing since destiny 1's release, and in an odd way this video has been very comforting for me since i've been so homesick. such a brilliant recap! im feeling both nostalgic, and super excited to get to play when i go home for the summer. thank you for your hard work!
I just want to say, thank you so much. I've technically played every year at launch of new dlc with the exception for lightfall, but it was so infrequent and far apart that I had no idea what the story was and was completely lost at the beginning of lightfall. This was so nice and kind of showed me what I missed as well as what I'd forgotten, cause there has been a lot of content since I last played Destiny 2
It surprises me that there are genuinely new players these days. I always felt like the story was too long and difficult to follow for new people as so much dialogue and lore in-game refers to things that happened years ago
Fantastic video, thank you! I remember playing the Beta for Destiny 1 way back, pre-ordering the collectors edition and queuing up to collect it at the midnight launch. I played the hell out of it, clearing the raids and remember being in massive demand for Crota as a Hunter playing as the Sword bearer and having a Gjallahorn. I played Destiny 2 at launch, was very disappointed and then have tried to get back in several times since just to be overwhelmed with the activities, quests and no idea where the story picks up from. Since watching this video I've bought Lightfall and dived back in and am pleased to say that thanks to this video, and massive improvements from Bungie I'm enjoying the game again and am looking forwards to the coming seasons!
As someone who stopped during Black Armory and is coming back for Lightfall. This is a huge boon for me to catch up on the story. Thanks for making this.
The amount of effort you have made to create this is incredible. I watched this full of nostalgia about the journey Destiny and Destiny 2 have taken of us on. Thank you!
This has been the most comprehensive lore video I've seen. Very much liked how you included all the relevant cutscenes from all the seasons that have passed. I played vanilla destiny 1, taken king, destiny 2 release, the beginning of forsaken and the beginning of beyond light. I can't believe how much story I missed and how much quality development they added to the seasons. I'll be recommending this to my friends who want to dive into destinys lore. Well done!
I’m thinking about replaying all stories from the first game onwards. The dreadnaught coming into our solar system and the story telling behind it was legendary. Miss the original game very much.
I will say this the writing, voice acting, story of savathūn is some of the best bungie has ever made. The witch queen DLC really made me fall in love with Destiny's lore. I cannot wait to face the darkness in lightfall!
@@calzonetyrone7226 I enjoy the gameplay of it but the story definitely felt like a straight up filler arc. It should've been titled "new strand power!" Lol
As someone that loves lore in games like Destiny but can't seem to pay attention enough in game to understand what the hell is going on, I thoroughly appreciate videos like this. I watched a previous one and learned so much about the world in general like the Fallen once being guardians and the Awoken being from another dimension. Which gives new context to the game.
I had quit D2 for a while and came back when i had some friends to play with. I knew the overall story, but getting the seasonal stories that i missed is really nice. This video is great! Also very nice that the visuals fit with what is going on. Watching some of the older stuff again makes me miss when our guardians talked more. I think its so wierd that ghost talks for us 99.9% of the time
@@PngReaver Silent protagonists are okay but I like one with more character. Viewing a game as a story, unless it’s an RPG where I can really control what my character does or says, I like having more of a real protagonist.
This is amazing. I started playing with the original destiny beta and played through all of D1. I stopped playing sometime in D2 due to a lack of time and my friends all dropped it. Booted up the game last night and got immediately dropped into a mission i knew nothing about… this recap will help so much! Thank you!!
Man, I stopped playing in 2020 when a close friend I played this with passed away, but decided to get back into the game a bit now. This summary is insanely valuable to catch up on all I missed, thanks a lot!
This is absolutely incredible - thank you for such an amazing piece of work. Better storytelling, visuals and summarised better than any other lore channel out there.
Thank you Evaze for putting this in plain english, chronological order, and something that can be followed. I have played this game for over 10 years and just now... i FINALLY understand the story! Thank you!.... Seriously, thank you!
Forsaken still hits so HARD dude! Also that line about the line between light and dark makes SO much more sense now, and I feel Lightfall is that last bit to know where we stand.
Ah, you're a godsend. I can't imagine what gargantuan effort it took to record and edit a video this long but the result is impeccable! Really easy to follow and your style of narration is both sooting and engaging, tysm!
Thanks. I feel like I now know the whole background of destiny and starting with D1 I was blown away by this game, a pve masterpiece which gets updated weekly and seasonally to evolve to great open worlds game with a community just as big. Thanks for this great visual presentation or movie 👍🏻👏🏻
the second day i've started playing Destiny 2 and learned that all the story content was deleted. So i searched for lore videos and what a surprise! You're about to realease a fresh video on all of the lore. Thank you for all your work!
keep in mind this contains most of the main story! its still a summarised version (a very good one) of destiny's lore as there's so much more that goes into this universe, i hope you have fun on your journey in destiny 2
@@sleepyy0000 I'm already thinking about buying light fall to be a part of this journey against the witness. The about the lore, don't get me started :D I will sniff out every little peace in a week or two
Even if you're not a new player, having played since D1 it's great to recap like this. It's also almost entirely plot-focused, so if you want to know what the game itself was like as a player, Shadow Destiny's channel has a great recap of that end of the game's history. It's a great companion piece to this.
Absolutely amazing I can’t even imagine how much time and effort went into this watched the whole thing and feel like I know so much more about the world and more of destiny thank you for all your hard work with this. I’m not one to ever normally leave comments but this video deserves to be acknowledged!
Oh my god, I know I’m repeating everyone, but this video is so good and concise at finally explaining what this game fails to do: tell me what is going on. Thank you, man!
Okay. Now I’m season of the seraph, where I last came in without beating savathun, and now I see that I was playing out order and had no idea. Why is this game so bad at curating its freaking story?!
@@gabribriel Agree to disagree. From a story aspect (which is mostly what I focus on from season to season), this year had BL beat. But honestly, I think that could partially be because Season of the Lost's story was spoiled a bit since we knew Savathun would survive. Risen was alright but mostly served to give more backstory to the lucent brood, Haunted was really great because it gave more depth to Crow, Zavala, and Caiatl. Plunder didn't provide much in terms of lore except as a way to break Eramis out, but I enjoyed the pirate aspect... the rest of the season not so much. And for Seraph, banger of a story, allowed a lot of lore to come to a head and had a seasonal activity I personally really enjoyed. Compared to that, Hunt was just a means for getting Crow onto our side, Chosen was a great way to get Caiatl on our side, Splicer was an alright story with a GREAT aesthetic going for it (still feels weird killing Quria in the way we did), and then Lost was a great season with a great story. All in all, I think BL had some good seasons going for it, but I just enjoyed WQ's seasons more. To each their own of course.
@@TrickyTricky914 bro I won’t disagree with you that point is completely valid but it’s still so hard to choose because they were both amazing narratively and gameplay wise

I want to say thank you for doing such an epic retelling of Destiny's story. I recently got back into Destiny and it's great to get a recap of all that i was missing.
As a late comer and a new frequent player of the Destiny franchise, now I understand the full story and full journey Bungie has crafted, I freaking love this video
The moment when the traveler breaks free at the end of the red war campaign is such an epic sequence. That scene alone returned me to Destiny 2 (ironically ) for Lightfall.
I only started playing Destiny 2 very recently (just got done with Witch Queen). But my brother played it religiously (1 and 2) but I always was fascinated by the games world and concepts. So this summary helps a lot.
As someone who took a 3 year hiatus at the start of Covid, I truly appreciate this video. Got back into the game and was totally lost with the lore, but now I'm all caught up thanks to this video and spending hours playing the game in the wrong order. lol.
As a new Destiny player I really hope they make old content available again. The red war campaign for example looked so awesome and i'd love to experience that. I totally get that maybe I shouldn't expect to experience content from season of the wolves or something, but integral parts of the world building I hope to be able to experience myself. Thank you for all your help and efforts for making a video like this so I can experience a little bit of what ive missed after all these years. The video is amazingly well done and you have every one of my kudos! I really appreciate you Evaze!
@@PointBlank65 Yea just got back into d2 after four years and kinda mad that all the content I paid for got striped from the game... Used to love the raids, shame they removed it all. Stupid reason imo because of space? Most games these days are huge, look at mw2 isn't it like over 150 gb with warzone included.
This was such a good watch. Listen and watched it over the last 2 days while doing other stuff and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you so much for doing this absurd amount of work to get this out :) Much appreciated!
I recently just started playing Destiny again. I got home with the intent of looking up a video of Destiny's history cuz I was very lost. Then this just so happened to pop up in my recommendations. Thank you
All the editing and time that went into making this video alone deserves a sub, like, comment, and share. Thank you for putting time into this video @Evaze. There are a lot of people, such as myself, who know how hard and time-consuming it is to make just a great 30-minute video. I can't imagine a 4 and a half hour video. 💙💙💙
As a Former Destiny Player only thing I remember is Cayde 6 telling Eris to get her megic Crystal rock of his map and having a interpretation that each nation on Earth had their own colony across the solar system from the Chinese building the bases we see on the Moon, to facilities belonging to German based research organizations on Venus, or even American research and transportation companies on Mars in the city of Freehold as I thought Golden age Humanity wasn't a single world government
Ive not played D2 since Forsaken. Came across this on my feed, watched it and now im back into D2. What an amazing 4hrs of content you have put together! Extremely well done and I could feel your passion for it! Amazing! And thank you!
You know it never occurred to me just how much Bungie has been dropping hints about the true darkness and the Pyramids "aka The Witness" all the way since D2s starting intro scene where the Traveler pulses across the galaxy and we see the Pyramids actually for like 5 seconds (EDIT: i just realized they have actually been hinting at them since D1! Crazy), which back then EVERYONE thought was just this so called "Darkness" which we now know to be somewhat true however somehow connected to the Witness now? (infamous retcon), its just crazy to me to know Bungie really did have a entire over arching atleast goal for the story, now how they got to that end point that has been a bit scuffed in Lightfall, and them trying to explain half the lore in the game and activites behind PAID SEASONS it just seems a bit lackluster to ship a fully paid expansion with gaps in the lore and lack of things to do simply cause they need things to put in the Seasons.
I've been wanting to play Destiny for the story for a long time, but with the content vaulting I couldn't, and the story and lore is the only thing that pulls me to the game. This is the second best thing that I could wish in that regard. Thank you, my man.
I already feel that this will be great. It's unbelivable the amount of lore that we can connect to especially with everything that happen in the last year. The timing is perfect. Thanks for your content Evaze ! P.S. After "Final Shape", I hope some of the "Lore" youtubers like you or Byf, can get a interview or Q/A with the developpers and what were their thoughts building this saga. Also, maybe have more details on some of the mysteries that aren't solve yet (I can't think of one right now)
I missed a few seasons here and there of Destiny, and then I left the game for about 3 years due to things in life. Watching this filled in all those blank spaces and is exactly what I've been looking for for coming back to the game!! Thanks dude!
I love that you didn’t sweeten or shorten shit, just gave us the every fleshed out detail possible. As someone who stopped after D1 and picked it up again when lightfall came out this was incredible glad to be caught up and thank you for the opportunity. Great video homie :)✌️👍
As someone who started playing Destiny 2 at the start of Witch Queen (after finishing the first game), I had no idea that I'd missed out on this much content... Thank you for the video!
This is much appreciated. Bungie themselves should reach out to you and thank you. I've been off and on Destiny 2 for years because I had no clue what the hell the backstory to my missions were. This actually has me invested for Lightfall and beyond. Thank You Evaze!
Thank you for this video. I was a hardcore D1 veteran and decided to get back into my addiction. I was lost and overwhelmed with the expansion of Destiny 2

The story really is so much easier to understand seeing it like this. I stopped playing Destiny back in 2018 and even though I knew a lot of the story and lore from those years I played, this was a great format to relieve it and catch up with current events.
A journey of nostalgia. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I feel the game has moved away from all this rich story telling and into the realms of cheap ornaments and neon flair. I often look at the art books and see the games amazing potential. This reminds me of the potential the game still has through great narrative. Something a recent cut scene may have reminded us all of. Great work fella 👍🏻
I havent even played Destiny and I don't really intend to but 4 hours of obscure content about a topic I have never experienced is something i can't miss out.
Crow's story is probably the best one in the game so far. I love going back and watching content from Season of the Hunt to Season of the Lost to see his interactions with Osiris. In hindsight it's so obvious that Osiris had been taken over all through that year. Now if only they could explain why Elsie lost her British accent.
I only wish that the crow's story, beautiful as it is, wasn't so hard to swallow. The loss of Cayde-6 was a blow to the entire Guardian community... Those feelings of pain and anger are not easy to move on. from.
Thanks for making this. I burnt out 95% through Beyond Light final season. Witch Queen free weekend and I needed to know what happened. It's a shame there's no way to do this in game, but content creators like you are there to pick up the slack. Thanks!

im in university right now almost 1,200 miles away from home. destiny is my dad and i's favorite game, when im home we play together every night. since i can't play the new expansion until i go home, i'm watching this video instead! my dad and I have been playing since destiny 1's release, and in an odd way this video has been very comforting for me since i've been so homesick. such a brilliant recap! im feeling both nostalgic, and super excited to get to play when i go home for the summer. thank you for your hard work!
I started playing during the Witch Queen campaign so this is a fantastic way for newer players to understand the lore and get caught up. Awesome work.
It surprises me that there are genuinely new players these days. I always felt like the story was too long and difficult to follow for new people as so much dialogue and lore in-game refers to things that happened years ago
@Aqua Ravenheart same! All the new players never got to meet Cayde :(
@@InsomniacStephens141 Not everyone is there just for the story, destiny is a fun game
Love to hear it guardian.

Well done!
The best part of this story is how streamlined a well written game story can be. and it makes me want to play again.

Thanks man, you're a legend
I had quit D2 for a while and came back when i had some friends to play with. I knew the overall story, but getting the seasonal stories that i missed is really nice. This video is great! Also very nice that the visuals fit with what is going on.
Watching some of the older stuff again makes me miss when our guardians talked more. I think its so wierd that ghost talks for us 99.9% of the time

This is amazing. I started playing with the original destiny beta and played through all of D1. I stopped playing sometime in D2 due to a lack of time and my friends all dropped it. Booted up the game last night and got immediately dropped into a mission i knew nothing about… this recap will help so much! Thank you!!

Crazy how almost half of this video was removed from the game so a new player will never know the beginning xD
Exactly, I just started recently just to find out base content and forsaken were removed and that’s why I’m here
Had no idea so much had been removed. Tried a couple times to get into the game but never really did until now. Sad to know this stuff's gone.
Fr I was gonna try to get friends to play it with me years ago but never did until recently so I missed a lot

The game is pretty darn good.
With final shape , it's now on par
After taking a 5 year break, this was essential. You're doing the traveler's work!
Zavala's story about his son makes it clear why he didn't avenge Cayde. He knew it wouldn't change his feelings of guilt
Been here since a squeaker in d1 days. Still here, 26 with 2 kids of my own who will one day be a new light. It’s been a blessing girls and boys ❤️
Forsaken still hits so HARD dude! Also that line about the line between light and dark makes SO much more sense now, and I feel Lightfall is that last bit to know where we stand.
oh thank goodness this video exists, been looking for something like this for ages

This dlcs seasons have been so good but tbh beyond lights seasons were better, except hunt, but witch queen>>>> beyond light
@@gabribrielsry but i dont think you know the difference between > and < 😭
@@gabribriel Agree to disagree.

I didn’t know destiny had such a beautiful story

I can relate
Crow's story is probably the best one in the game so far. I love going back and watching content from Season of the Hunt to Season of the Lost to see his interactions with Osiris. In hindsight it's so obvious that Osiris had been taken over all through that year. Now if only they could explain why Elsie lost her British accent.
Must have been her new software update lol. The brittish accent was so much better.
Fuck Crow
I only wish that the crow's story, beautiful as it is, wasn't so hard to swallow. The loss of Cayde-6 was a blow to the entire Guardian community... Those feelings of pain and anger are not easy to move on. from.
Thanks for making this. I burnt out 95% through Beyond Light final season. Witch Queen free weekend and I needed to know what happened. It's a shame there's no way to do this in game, but content creators like you are there to pick up the slack. Thanks!
