    Good expansion Ian !
Artur Ogelsby did tech me at river spey back in 1982. Then we use 100ft DT lines.
I still like bring my rod further back and crate a bigger D-loop and my favourite sinking line is the S1 and S2.
Goran Andersson try tech me the underhand cast but I don't get a good long cast as whit the old style whit tophand load.
I do prefer my 15,3' 10/11# it lift longer lines and and feels bit like old speycasting.
I do fish a 13,7' 9/10# whit a short 35' head for small and tight places! I do use switch rods of 11-11,6' for steelhead in USA and for sea trout here in Sweden. Often whit a very short skagit head of 15-16,5' its amazing cast in tight spots under tre branches. Fun se you cast 👌 Arthur and Hugh was fun fishing whit. There is no wrong way as I'm see it.
As long you get your line out where you aim it and no risk hit your self doing the cast.
When we fish from boat as we do in Norway the rodder will see you cast safely who like a big cone head tube and size 1-2# treble hook in you that hurts.
I still use my Hardy favourite 15' and 16' will in to the new rods from you at Hardy.
    Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

Cracking video, I hope Ian will do others, such as the Snap T cast. I need to refine that cast after lock down has kept me of the rivers.

A very interesting and informative video Ian - thank you. Would you recommend the thumb on top grip when casting with longer spey lines ? I have used shooting heads for the past decade (circle grip), but intend going back to longer rods and lines where conditions allow. I need to brush up on my traditional spey casting technique - not that it was ever brilliant in the first place !

John, we've just shot a video with Ian wherein he explains more about this subject. It'll be on line soon as I have edited it, so look out for that.

Hi John, I’d definitely recommend the thumb on top, however, it really is what you feel comfortable with.
We have another video coming where we focus on this. It’s all about keeping the rod on the same plane whilst under load. A more detailed explanation is coming.

@@IanGordonsalmonfishing Just watched the video you mentioned - and very good it is to! I have been guilty of making all the basic mistakes you mention in the clip - now that you have pointed them out. Very helpful indeed. Thanks
