Great honest review thanks. I only started to learn 5 weeks ago (39 years of age) with a purchased 50 euro guitar. After around a week of playing I started researching why it's so difficult to press down and get the chords ringing out (playing the A chord is still painful). That's where I first heard of high and low action. The action must be way too high. Anyway, all the reviews I've read are positive for Yamahs F310. Seeing your review is my last and I've just ordered it. :D Hey, on the plus side my fingers are now well conditioned for a lower action. Every cloud... :)

Great video. I have two of these. Both over 10 years old. One is very beat up and abused but it still sounds decent. Even got slammed in a truck door once so one machine head has to be upside down. The other is still in great shape. Love these guitars.
Great and very helpful review, i purchased a F310 few weeks ago, and can concur it is quite loud for a beginner, however this is easlyly sorted with a "feedback buster" at the cost of a couple of pounds (will probably need modifying slightly for this particular guitar), or in my case made my own with a circle of flexible black plastic (cut out for the neck intrusion) and a smaller circle of 1" rubber foam glued to the back, works perfectly and is very easyly installed/removed when needed. Also you mention about the fairly low action, personally i found it quite high, but im assured this is can be sorted with lighter strings, think it comes with 10s or 11s as standard, these can be changed for 9s, and should result in slightly lower action and be easyer on the fingers, and make it much more suitable for us beginners, but this i have yet to try
Hi thanks for your response I appreciate it! Just my two cents worth but I feel beginners should try and go for the 'default' 10s gauge unless you really can't press it due to whatever reasons. I'm surprised your action is high though because most F310s I play have great low action, do check with a store if the guitar is setup properly or not? anyway I hope this video and comment will be useful for you!'
Hi thanks for watching and subscribing! Yes the action a the 12th fret is great, low... and the yamaha f310 is definitely easy to play for it's price tag

Ive had this guitar for more than 2 years now. And i wasnt a beginner when i got this and it was the best acoustic guitar ive ever had. I still have it,still playing it. At first it wasn't that great. The one that i got had a crazy high action, and the neck wasn't straight too. I had to set up everything before using it. But as soon as i was done setting it up it was sounding and playing great.
Hey, Justin! Thanks for the great review. I have a question though. I'm a beginner and I really like this guitar and I wanna buy it but the problem is that I don´t like the full-body shape and I want a cutaway guitar. Can I find this Yamaha F310 cutaway? And if not, is there another guitar that is as good but cutaway that you recommend? Also, I prefer the black color, would I find it available in black? Thank you in advance (and sorry for the many questions :D).
Hi thanks for watching, unfortunately the F310 does not come with a cutaway. If you are looking for one with a cutaway and as good, you can try the Yamaha APX series or the Fender CD 60 CE series. I would expect the price range to be higher though. If you are a beginner why do you need a cutaway is something I would ask though because typically you dont go to the higher frets until much later on. Do look around for other brands though , i'm only making a safe assumption in this video that you can't go wrong with name brands. Hope this helps
I detest Dreadnoughts too. I have a Yamaha APX600. It's a *very* nice guitar, but not traditional body and more than double the price of the F310. Most concert cutaways these days will come with a pre-amp and pickup on board. People wanting cutaways are generally wanting that feature OOTB. If you want a very decently priced concert bodied cutaway guitar that plays as superbly as it sounds, and a quality build, have a look at Cort's AF515CE. You can only buy it as an electro-acoustic with their CE304T system on board. It is available in black satin or natural satin (OP). Alternatively, though not a cutaway, Cort's Concert bodied AF510 can be had with or without that CE304T system. The acoustic only version is almost stealing it at the price it sells for. I have two of them. Same quality as the AF515CE. They are all superb players. They too are available in black satin, though harder to find in that colour and generally a little dearer.
when i first started learning guitar i learnt on a POS called a Martin Smith W101. I found one at a store for 160€ that included a gig bag, extra strings, 3 picks,a tuner,a capo and some other stuff (i know nothing about guitars i just want to learn to play it as a hobby) i watched a lot of youtube videos and am thinking of getting either the yamaha mentioned in the video, the Fender CD60 or the Epiphone DR-100. Which one do you suggest.
Hey thanks for watching! Well in my opinion the guitars you mentioned are entry level guitars and I feel that there is really no difference in the quality and sound, also you wouldn't be able to tell by yourself because you just wouldnt have the ear for it yet. The one problem with the Yamaha F310 compared to the others is the size. I would go by feel, if you like how it feels and you are comfortable with the size go for that. You can't go wrong with these brands really. Ask a guitar playing friend to tag along if you want a second opinion! I hope you found this useful, do let me know what you got in the end!
Justin Low thanks for the reply! I got the yamaha F310 today. Hey Justin, I guess one of the best review for f310, thank you so much for giving those basic details, myths etc. do you think if I have higher budget, though as beginner can I go for higher priced like FG800? Is it going to be similar playability with FG800 as you mentioned with f310, I’m a beginner and planning a buy one guitar. Thanks again😊
Hi thank you for subscribing! Yes I will still recommend this guitar... the reason being that: At this price point there really isn't any noticeable difference between the name brands like Fender or Cort or Yamaha. SO there is no point in thinking too hard about what to get... as long as you get a good brand entry level guitar (yes even if its not the F310) you can't go wrong with it. It's called an entry level guitar because you want to get better at your ability and then move on to the better more higher priced guitars.
Hi thank you! I think ultimately it all boils down to feel, and size... check to see if the f310 is too big or not then go for the fs100c instead if size matters. however as i mentioned, for a beginners guitar you can't go wrong with a good brand so theres not much difference so go with feel
Thank you for the information provided in your video. I recently was given the Yamaha F-310 without a case. At the end of your video you called it a Dreadnought. Is this the size case I should look for or should I have more information about the size?
Hi Tish Westman, yes the yamaha f310 is considered a dreadnought size and i would buy the case in that size. Do check with the store as well if it is possible and if they happen to have a yamaha f310 for sale use that to test it out! or if possible i suggest bringing the guitar down as well
Good review. Absolutely right about the size. Good guitars but the dreadnought is just too big for me. Auditorium is the ideal size but the choice is much more limited.
Hi i need your help. I've been playing guitar for more than 2 years, i now play some pretty advanced fingerstyle and I use this old but great sounding Yamaha classical guitar. I'm considering getting the FSX315C because of the cutaway and it being electric. Is there a big difference between the fs100c(same as fsx315c minus electric) and the f310(same as fx310 minus electric)??
Hi yes there is a big difference I would say. The F310 although not explicitly stated really is a guitar aimed at entry level to immediate players so the pickup is just an add on. The FX315C really is aimed at intermediate and above players so the build and pickup system would be better. Im also guessing the price might be higher for the FSX315C
Hi there thanks for watching the video! Really depends: if you have been playing guitar a while and you think that you have good playing skills then this Yamaha F310 might be underwhelming in terms of sound. Because the guitar is meant for entry level playing. Best to invest in a better guitar with the Yamaha Apx/Cpx series or maybe even a Martin/Taylor guitar? If price is a huge factor then of course get this F310 but you will find that you want to upgrade the guitar and get a better one and you would just be wasting your money. Hope this helps!

Hey Justin, I've been playing the guitar for about a year now. I started off with a really cheap guitar as I wasn't sure if I would really be into it. Now I'd like to get a good quality guitar, since I enjoy fingerstyle playing, I'm looking for cutaway type and found yamaha fs100c. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere here. Can you suggest any good cutaway guitar for reasonable price?
Sounds great no doubt. String spacing is proving to be a problem. Im trying to play Blurry by Puddle of Mud. It's hard to avoid string when playing the natural harmonics. Also the action wow. Gotta be the worst ive ever touched. I sanded it a couple of times and it still is too high. Beginner or pro, no one should be playing such a stiff guitar
srikotla siddardth As far as I understand terms, a cutaway guitar is one that has space to be able to reach the higher frets easier. If I am right about that then this isn’t a cutaway.
You can go to any yamaha store to see for yourself. Or why not go straight to the cheapest fg guitar?$370 (can go below $300 on sale) Solid wood top, laminated sides, sounds good, feels nicer to hold than the f series.
hi. i got a kapok and F310. the kapok sounds better for me even tho it's less than RM90 bought years before. I dont like the F310 sound as its sound like a tin or buzzy. how to make the F310 sounds less tin sound or buzzy sound
Hi perhaps your F310 needs a setup that's why it's buzzy and has a thin sound: the strings are scraping against the fret wires. You know sometimes you just come across a well made guitar so that could be the situation with the kapok but probability wise I would always go with name brands.
Hi I have not tried the Jasmine S35, but it looks decent for an entry level guitar. I think at that price point there really isn't much of a difference in quality
Hey you're welcome! Do check out my videos if you need advice/help on how to start progressing on the guitar and let me know if you have other questions!
Can i ask a question, i bought the f310 and for some weird reason i can see like a net glued inside my guitar near the soundhole... is this normal to be seen inside the guitar?
Hey there, I'm planning to buy this Yamaha f310 but I'm not sure if every model of the f310 has the same action height or not... So I am afraid that the one I buy will be higher than usual. Btw, the guitar I'm using now seems to be a little difficult to play as well, I'm not sure if it's the action height problem or if it's just because I don't press harder enough, but from my point of view I felt that the height if higher than the average 2.5mm
Hi while it is a entry level guitar, I'm sure the action between different F310 guitars will be the same or there won't be a huge difference. Personally I find the action for F310 ideal for everyone especially if you prefer a lower action. If you try a F310 and you find the action high, you might want to actually think about working on your pressing strength as well because while having a low action is good you dont want to depend on it as a crutch otherwise you won't be building enough muscle power to eventually press barre chords for example
Hi in terms of price point FG800 is higher and so it's marketed as a higher than entry level guitar which makes it better then the F310. However I would go with whichever guitar feels more comfortable to press the neck since you might find it a little tricky to adjust to a steel string. IF you have problems pressing the neck of the FG800 try the F310 which might have a slimmer neck
i have this 9 years ago, and im still using it.♥️

Do check with the store as well if it is possible and if they happen to have a yamaha f310 for sale use that to test it out! or if possible i suggest bringing the guitar down as well
Hi...excellent video. The top is laminated spruce though...
Good, relevant info and easy explanation. Love such honest reviews. Keep it up!
Last week i ordet this guitar and is he just deliver now and now am start searching about f310
I feel like it sounds good but only lacking high end. Any way to fix the high end?
Good review. Absolutely right about the size. Good guitars but the dreadnought is just too big for me. Auditorium is the ideal size but the choice is much more limited.
Yeah I think if it came in at a smaller size would be close to perfect!
Hey I'm trying to find an affordable guitar with a NiCe Bass (an acoustic one) any recommendation?
Thanks for the reply, but in terms of playability is it easier to play the fs100c or the f310?
I think you very much need to figure that out yourself since it is a personal preference at this point
alright. tysm
Hi I"m a long time classic guitar player and I"m thinking of buying myself an acoustic guitar. Would you recommend this guitar?
great review btw
Hi there thanks for watching the video! Really depends: if you have been playing guitar a while and you think that you have good playing skills then this Yamaha F310 might be underwhelming in terms of sound. Because the guitar is meant for entry level playing.
Best to invest in a better guitar with the Yamaha Apx/Cpx series or maybe even a Martin/Taylor guitar?
If price is a huge factor then of course get this F310 but you will find that you want to upgrade the guitar and get a better one and you would just be wasting your money.
Hope this helps!
It really helped dude .... Thanks 🙂
Hey thanks! subscribe if you want to and let me know if you got a F310 in the end?
I’ve got this guitar but want to get an upgrade, what should I look at?
Would you recommend this guitar? Is the action low?
Hi really depends on your budget and if you want a pickup or not. Let me know?
welcome sir thank you
This is an excellent review! Can you please tell me what's the spacing between strings after the nut? How wide or narrow?
I would say that it is narrow :
usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/ac-guitars/f/f310/
nut width is about 1.70 inch which is considered standard. Standard nut width is narrow.
hey , that was realy helpful , can u pls give ur opinion on fender fa100
Which one is better Yamaha F310 or Fender squier sa 105 ce?
Whilst the guitar sounds nice I find the action on mine too high making it painful to play for extended periods.
Pls reply which ones better fs100 or f310 yamaha??
Just got one in a beginners pack!
Hope you enjoy the guitar!
Thanks Justin!
I’m an experienced ish player but I literally do not have enough money, would this still be a good guitar or should I save up for longer?
How many frets in this 🎸?
21
Sounds great. Nice guitar sound
I was your 700th sub! 👍
Hey congrats! and thank you for subscribing to my channel!
How does it sound if I install pickup in yamaha F310???
I have the same question... And like what pickup system should I get with it and how's the price... I'm from malaysia btw
Yamaha did have Concert size F210 model some years back, they do not produce such model anymore.
Hey that's interesting! I'm definitely going to check that out... thanks for the nugget of information!
Great review thanks!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it great!
Picked a second hand one up for £50!
Nice! Enjoy the well deserved find!
@@JustinLow thank you!
nice stuff
In Yamaha guitars which one should i buy? Is it cutaway or non-cutaway guitar?
srikotla siddardth As far as I understand terms, a cutaway guitar is one that has space to be able to reach the higher frets easier. If I am right about that then this isn’t a cutaway.
Which is better and why?
F370 vs F310
Is this guitar yamaha f310 ALL NT?
Is it an electroacoustic?
Jasmine S35 vs Yamaha F-310
Which is better?
Hi I have not tried the Jasmine S35, but it looks decent for an entry level guitar. I think at that price point there really isn't much of a difference in quality
I wish I saw this video when I first got this guitar
Did you change the strings? witch ones do you have?
Hello. Is it good if i pick Enya Amari AM MINI as a beginner?
Can i Use Elixir strings or just keep the stock strings
Im about to start (late but better than never, right?) and I must thank you for this review. Cheers
Hey you're welcome! Do check out my videos if you need advice/help on how to start progressing on the guitar and let me know if you have other questions!
I will mate! Thanks again ffor your support! :-)
Could anyone please tell me the distance between fredboard and strings f310 ? B coz my f310 hard to press down
Can i ask a question, i bought the f310 and for some weird reason i can see like a net glued inside my guitar near the soundhole... is this normal to be seen inside the guitar?
Was wondering which one to get this or fender CD-60
I loved the yahama f310 guiter any on can yoused this guiter I sussaged every one can yoused really this guiter are sounded is very very good
Hey there, I'm planning to buy this Yamaha f310 but I'm not sure if every model of the f310 has the same action height or not...
If you try a F310 and you find the action high, you might want to actually think about working on your pressing strength as well because while having a low action is good you dont want to depend on it as a crutch otherwise you won't be building enough muscle power to eventually press barre chords for example
hi, would you recommend the f310 or fg800? i’ve been playing the classical guitar for 5 years... but i can’t seem to decide.
Justin Low ok! thanks so much for ur advice ! will go to the shop to try them out :-)
Sir on Amazon Nato neck F310 Yamaha guitar available can I buy thus…
