- Koh Mook: Everyone only shows the gloss at these "paradise" islands but many don't speak of the reality in low season. We saw a place totally different from our previous trip, dirty beaches, resorts closed, shops are closed and only one restaurant is enough for the handful of visitors on the island. The weather was wet and grey and the resort we booked was terrible despite what the booking sites claimed. But hey, this is low season, so what did we expect?

Hi. That beach dog really embraced you with his heart and kept taking care. I love the peace and silence when it is raining. Thank you you for not confrontating us with tons of overweight drunken tourists. You two suit together so well, that it is difficult to imagine, that you ever had an argument. Hope to see you two again soon in another video.
Thanks, the dog was lovely, and as soon as we left the beach area it stayed there, and not long after another dog adopted us and joined us at the restaurant with the cats.

I think it is great to show when things don't go perfectly to plan- Less experienced travellers might really benefit from having some sense of managed expectations. Thanks for the vid!
Went there once back in 2018 and to be honest I was bored stiff and left early. I realized back then I am no longer someone who likes to spend time on a beach.on a small island
It's always fun to travel in Thailand, never mind the season, just as long as there are no tour buses!

Now that it's high season, you'll have more luck than us, but make sure you do your homework before going 🎉😊
They've probably also just not recovered from covid, let alone the low season. Looks a bit sad but hopefully bounces back eventually

I love to go to the islands off season. Get some nice room with room service. Excellent for reading, writing, drinking. One needs to approach it as a Winter holidays
Hi Pat, I went to Koh Chang about 3 weeks ago to see If I could take my boat there for some fun in the high season. I booked a hotel in Kai Bae as per the description given. When I got there I think the place was 80% closed. They gave me a room in what I considered to be an apartment block. The bungalow I booked ? They told me to keep my room keys as the reception would be closed by 8pm. Needless to say I checked out next day even though paid for! Sad that the locals do this! Good report ! thanks!

We enjoyed Trang. Perfect hub to visit the lesser known islands eg. Libong, Kradan and Mook of course with its Morakot cave

Koh Koot (Kut) is better and closer to Bangkok. No need to fly or take overnight bus/train. Resorts more expensive though.

Look at you Pat throwing shapes on the beach like back in the day 😊. Good to see May. Even though it’s low season and not much open at least you had the island nice n quiet . It still looked great and the restaurant in town looked great. I would be happy to go there during low season . Great vlog and remember keeeep dancing !!!!!!!!!💃 🕺

Thanks Pat for posting this video. I'm sure most people can relate to the experience of a less than perfect holiday, and trying to learn from it. I thought there appeared to still be many positives to the whole thing. The reggae backtrack seemed to work well also!
I find Bangkok Pat channel is the most relevant channel about Thailand as being authentic and real on the whole UA-cam.Nice to see duo video,hopefully more videos that way too!

I really like Trang City - nice vibe to that place. The off season looks so different to the busy season that's for sure. I went to Ko Kradan in the off season once and we got good weather and it was really nice there with just 2 of us. Sometimes you can get lucky and have no rain in the off season but you didn't this time unfortunately. It's always good travelling without the crowds though.
It's nice to see you both out enjoying yourselves, I prefer to go to places in low season in the quite I find it more relaxing.

We were there a few days in May after the end of high season this year. The whole resort to ourselves,. The real highlight was taking a boat to Ko Ngai and Ko Kradan - and having those world class islands all to ourselves the entire day, in perfect water with ZERO people. All for the cost of a longtail boat. We were unbelievably lucky, a holiday that was the definition of paradise. So while Ko Muk beaches aren't the best, it's a great launching pad, with very nice people and good food, and nice sunsets over Charlie Beach. We fell in love with each other and with Trang on that trip. Cheers!
Koh Phangan even low season there's beats somewhere even in a downpour you can party somewhere.

I was in Trang in October! Went to that clock tower. I think Trang would be a great place to retire to live the slow life. Close to Krabi too, although I found Ao Nang beach area to be too touristy.

Krabi is my second home last weekend i was in Trang and its clearly you don’t see any tourist even at the coast to ex koh mok same same. I have been on that island a couple of times and everything’s have changed so not this time. Have a over night on my always favorite island Koh Lanta and it’s look like very different a lot of people and opinions it’s just so great to have a car these days. Krabi city is what it always is 😮 Sabai sabai

Stayed at the islands next door a few years back, Koh Ngai and Koh Kradan luckily we had decent weather. I imagine Koh Mook is much the same as those.
I thought you were going to say that the lady owner was warning you to be careful at night because of snakes not scorpions.
Gosh I don't mind the rain, and sort of nice not having a lot of people around. The only scary thing is the boat ride, they need some newer sturdier boats especially for the rainy season. Trang looked a little dangerous to me, mainly because I live in the US and it would have been dangerous here.
hi pat & may glad to see you re both ok i had wondered what was going on , koh mook looked nice , its nice to see some older buildings , in bkk it seems so much is being swallowed up by concrete steel and glass as thailand strives onwards to modernism casting aside everything else , dinner looked great too , i had fish n chips with a saveloy for tea , take it easy see you on the next one

Currently in Koh Mook the people are really lovely, and the two beaches are nice. Just wish the government could sort out the rubbish on the island.

BKK Pat, I love your channel. I enjoyed this video, but your videos on the history of Nana and other areas of BKK are fantastic. Love the use of the tunes you played in the video(DNB). Something about how you present and narrate is different to me, and I'm hooked. I love history and want to see more content from other places if needed. Low season travel is always a challenge. Not many businesses are open, and the weather isn't the greatest. However, can get some great photos as the mobs of tourists aren't there. IMHO it's a nice change from battling the hordes.

I'm going to have to put the southern region of Thailand on my bucket list next winter when we come. I do prefer it in the quieter areas when my wife and I go out now, but it does look a little sad without hardly any tourists (farrang or thai) at all to help the local businesses out. I don't miss though the large bus loads of Chinese tourists everywhere before Covid. It is refreshing to have a Thai and somewhat foreigner perspective of the areas and businesses. :) Almost feels like my wife and I are out exploring. Great job again....Michael
Visited 2 weeks ago stayed in a tent, my mistake must had been 55c in the tent during the day. Great when the sun goes down.

Great to see May back, she has a great smile. It's places like Koh Mook that I would like to visit in a few years time, just not sure how I convince my wife to go on those types of boats. I was surprised at how nice Trang looked, especially at night.

You're in such great shape. Everything in Thailand is fried in oil. although the dishes you showed for dinner looked pretty healthy. Maybe a video on eating healthy in Thailand? I guess Thais aren't fat, so maybe all the fried food isn't so bad.
Hi Pat although not perfect weather is still nice to make a video about, and being together makes it much better. I been to Koh Tao 10 years we had very bad weather and I got very seasick from the trip so I know how that feels. Good to see some cats in the vid again. Look like a nice Island too visit in the dry season never been there. But for me too much tourists everywhere I don’t like either.

It's not unreasonable to expect your hotel/resort to be close to what was represented when you booked, no matter high or low season. They still expect their payment.
