    This is a classic example of a very simple yet incredibly clever idea. My 1st driving lesson took me round it about a week after it had been created. It cannot break or be broken and never has power cuts!

    I thought it was the Star of David on the signs in the beginning, when it faded out.

    Basically it is a 2 way roundabout that is connected by a smaller roundabout and can handle up to 6± input road? Amazing!

    Mrs Richards: " I paid for a room with a view!"
    Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
    Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
    Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
    Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
    Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
    Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
    Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?

    1:40 Looks like the dark blue car from the top right is speeding. It won't even stay in lane.

      Broken lane markings are advisory, not compulsory, and it could see there was nothing coming from the right so no need to stop or slow down.

      @@crunch8484 I assume a plod could still take that as "careless driving" if he wanted to.

    we have a lot of these in our country
    so I was confused about the word "roundabout". It's used to solve heavy traffic and help have easy access to the complicated tight areas (well, in our country).

    I encountered this once, just the once in the 80s. Did not understand the weird sign, had to do a 'third exit,' so none the wiser, drove on and went round the inside lane to meet an oncoming car. Both of us stopped. I was hopelessly confused and went round the outside carefully until I got the exit to the M1. I heard the person who designed this got an award. I would have charged him with manslaughter.

      It is strange indeed! My favourite as with most roundabouts is when you all approach at the same time. It's then a game of who rolls the dice first and goes 😂

      @@DronePhotographyHire I suppose it works fine for those who know it, but it could be considered dangerous for a first time encounter by an 'ignorant' motorist. Thanks for the drone and the upload.

      @@malcolmabram2957 I've only come across 2 accidents on the roundabout. One was where a car had smacked into the side of a post office lorry when both were turning right towards to M1 direction.
      You're allowed to turn right from the left hand lane (probably due to sheer weight of traffic going that way in the mornings), so that probably caught the car out as they were trying to go from the right hand lane to the left hand lane of the exit.

    Looking at this I like that you don't have to go the long way round to get off the roundabout. Bet it makes traffic flow smoother.

    • @DronePhotographyHire
      @DronePhotographyHire  3 роки тому +3

      Very good point :) I drive it a lot and it seems to work very well at managing the flow of traffic (always find a moment to enter and exit each mini roundabout quite quickly even in peak times as there are cars always entering from all directions, naturally creating moments for you to pull out, despite cars on your right about to enter).

      @@DronePhotographyHire It looks so tranquil from above, especially with the music adding to the ambience.
      Learners often dread it, but it's not the worst roundabout in Hemel Hempstead; that would be the roundabout between Queensway and Swallowdale Lane. Whoever designed that roundabout should be slapped at 3.00am or a similar time, when they least expect it!

      My least favourite is trying to get out of the retail car park (the one with Halfords in, bit of a gamble trying to get back out most of the time) :D

    • @pineapplepenumbra
      @pineapplepenumbra 3 роки тому +1

      @@DronePhotographyHire I agree that it''s a pain to get out of there, especially as there's the bend going past McDonalds' so it's hard to see what's coming.
      . When they had a test centre in Halfords, they just didn't bother having tests in December.
      I had a pupil turn right from there and saw a van slow right down for her. I thought, "Oh no, she's just failed, right at the start of the test", but I was wrong. The examiner said that she told her to turn out at that point, and passed her.

    It's a lot better than the Magic Roundabout in Swindon, since the lanes give much more clear directions and the length of the roads between the mini roundabouts are longer giving more room.
    The Swindon one is tight, cramped, and tries to cram 3/4 lanes into a tight confusing mess with the arrows being very vague 😅
