Interesting - So Waterford cycles have closed. It was kind of like the last of the Original Schwinn. It's a bit like a loss of a piece of America.
That is a gorgeous bicycle. Interesting fun facts about Waterford Precision Cycles also. Beautiful cat as well. I Love cats and I have Persians too. 💕🫡
Always know where your towel is, Dude.
Wipe’in as we go!😂
I appreciate how you renovate bikes for riders with small budgets, but I really enjoyed your videos about your Waterford and your Ellis bikes.
Nice. Waterford/Richard Schwinn will be missed. Love my Gunnar.
I've been on a gunner single speed for 23 years. I wouldn't have any other way.
Really sad to see water for go away
I raced on a Gunnar Rodie for 15 years, until I hung up my numbers.
Man, that is a beautiful bike. Sad to hear Waterford has closed.
Thanks for showing us your bike. I have seen a few of your other videos, this one just now came up after searching for Waterford. very Nice bike.
I can look at cool bikes all day. Those crank arms look like something out of grandpa’s tool chest. I’m a sucker for well made parts.
That is a beautiful bicycle. The hammered fenders are very cool.
Beautiful . waaay prettier than the modern aero looking clone bikes of today . 👍
Really enjoyed this one! Love seeing personality develop in a bike after years of tweaking and many miles of use and enjoyment
VERY awesome ride Andy! That's definitely one to just admire. I don't think I'd ever ride that. Thanks for sharing!
A useful and beautiful design, allowing us the viewers a bit more access into your philosophy of biking.
It's a magnificent build, you don't see bikes like that in the wild often in 2023. 👌
Great looking bike man! I love how you geek out on every little nuance.
Thanks Andy. I enjoy this video very much mainly because of your explanation and showing of the components that make up your bike.
Regards Steve.
A thing of beauty.
It may not be my cup of coffee, but its an interesting bike none the less. It's interesting to see what somebody's dream bike is like, and I appreciate the effort you've put into equipping this bike and getting it to suit your touring needs. I hope you are able to put some more miles on it.
What a lovely bike! I just picked up an early 80's Bianchi Randonneur that I'm rebuilding with lots of help from your channel. Keep up the great work!
Just wanted to say: Worked at Burley's tandem frame contractor which also used custom butted True Temper... Didja know that most of their tubing was not seamless. It has welded seams and when used on their thin-wall 1.125" diameter tubing, (which we ovalized...) you had to be very careful were the seam was positioned towards the ovalizer's faces, so you didn't crack the seam open. It looks like a nice bike, I'm betting it's supple and comfortable on rougher paved roads, much like my Austro-Daimler Vent Noir. Which has seamless Reynolds 531 tubes.
Should have bought a used touring Waterford when one came up in my frame size on Facebook. Beautifully built .
insane bike
That right there is what is known as a good bike!
Love my Waterford too. Going on 20 years with it. I heard you mention Ellis, I had a chance to talk with Dave when he was at Waterford and he explained how he massaged the lugs on my bike to make it look 👌🏻.
I remember as a teenager there was a high end road bike shop that opened in my local UK town selling Waterford frames. We went in as lads just admiring the build and paint quality but feeling out of place in the shop due to the price.
Beautiful build!
Serious Rando bike. There's a Ford color that will match that paint.
Killer bike! I’ve got a Gunnar steelie that I ❤. Sad that Waterford/Gunnar is out of business now … but Richard made the call to do it on his own terms, it was time he said, so not sad in that regard. ☮️
I love this bike. Those cranks man! I ended up with a track/road 2200 lugged Waterford. In my size on EBay. It fits 32/33s which is enough for me. A dream bike for sure. You may have inspired me to get a post out to share.
I recently found your channel. Love your passion and what you're doing. Keep the bikes coming.
Beautiful classy bike! Gorgeous components 🔥 15:36
Those brake cradles are nice, keeps them perfectly centered.
Thanks for sharing the details on this beauty! I like content like this more than rants fwiw :).
Very interesting bike. I like what you've done with it.
What a dream bike, jeez! Here's hoping that one day I'll get to build something quite as nice as that. It's just great. Cheers, man.
Now I'm dreaming of an onyx hub, but $$$ dang!
Great showcase video! Your dynamo setup is particularly impressive.
The sound of the bottom tube was a little uninspiring, but I'm sure it's as robust as other steel tubes. I admire the clean TIG work; I also admire the aesthetics of big fat beads that convey bombproof-ed-ness.
Really like your bike. I like the old school steel bikes. Can't afford a custom. But, I have a couple of All City bikes that have served me well over the years.
Excellent. For folks from the hinterlands of Wisconsin, seeing how you execute the details (decaleur, front rack, wiring, etc) is the content I haven't seen anywhere else. Beautiful bike.
Phil Wood bb? Nice ride. Nothing like a frame made to order. Thanks for the Christmas idea, my wife will like her new bell.
Beautiful bike! Love the way you have tuned it for practicality and beauty! I’m also dreaming about building a rando bike and this is a great inspiration. Thanks!
BF...You glossed over the seat post. I noticed it has a backward bent in it. Would that be helpful for taller riders? Who makes that? In that it is a custom-made bike frame, why couldn't you order a more relaxed angle seat down tube? Thanks for posting BF...!
It’s a Tompson Masterpiece. I have setback posts on all my bike. It just feels right that way 🤷🏻♂️
This is very close to what I have in mind for an old Peugeot frame. Just have to restore the frame. That is a lovely bike you have, look after it.
Great looking bike and very well setup. I love all the functional touches and details. I agree about the Ultegra R8000 group set too. Mine has been through a lot of miles and weather conditions. Proper maintenance keeps the group working so well.
Wonderful build and thank you for the guided tour. Just a great video, I was mesmerized. Thank you.
Beautiful! Reminds me quite a bit of my own treasured Cielo, by Chris King. They beautiful welds and light steel tubing... However I really feel like splurging on some of your "fancy" add ons now! I got cheap stuff when I was building up there frame😅
Rear hubs are one of the few components worth splurging on IMO as they really affect the feel of the bike. I cheap out in many other areas but am running an Onyx Vesper rear for the silence and soft engagement which is a plus for me. IMO the most noticeable areas of upgrade: tires, rear hub, pedals, saddle, bars.
Beautiful! Nice components too, I was sad to hear Waterford closed this year. I have a couple of Rivendells that were built there, and the frames are flawless. I've heard Richard interviewed several times, and he was always quite humble but informative.
SWEET ride! Loved this video. I grew up in Waterford in the 70s and 80s. Moved away in 86. Had hoped to one day get a customized Waterford bike, but I guess that ship has sailed. Really enjoyed the tour of yr Waterford though. Thx for sharing!
Beautiful bike
Truly fantastic forever bike. Love it😊
I love my 650b riv saluki. I tour occasionally, but i'm old, heavy and slow. But, it's wonderful to feel 'as one' with your bike.
Andy, thanks for showing us your Waterford. I too always wanted one and was so disappointed to find out that I had waited too long and they were closed. I guess I'll have to go a step up and get a Drumlin.
I have a 1987 Paramount..I’ve hauled a Bob trailer with it touring..Done centuries with it It’s painted with genuine Ferrari paint 🎨..currently it’s set up as a single speed..Today I rode a 1985 Schwinn Tempo (frame made by Panasonic) 75 miles..This summer I rode 34 century plus rides on that Tempo….👌👍🚲
Amazing bike man thanks for sharing your build.
my wife was from east troy, i had a fantasy of going to Waterford and ordering a bike. it never happened and then they closed. I am happy enough with the manufactured bikes i have and will probably never (75) buy a custom one. sometime I plan to visit your shop, you remind me so much of a wisconsin friend i have, your video's are great. phil
Love the bike. Need more Gregor
This is a superb piece of kit. If there are any other bikes which you own that you haven't put on the channel then I would enjoy seeing them. A fantastic looking all rounder and an engineering masterpiece which I can only dream of.
I will definitely be doing more of these videos!
Pretty functional for such a fancy bike. Classy.
Wonderful bike!!! I have a 2011 Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen frame made by Waterford. Also running the Onxy rear hub and Son front dynamo with an Edilux light on Velocity Quills but with 44mm Rene Herse Snoqualmie Pass tires. Waterford frames are pretty incredible! I bought mine new and it is my all-time favorite bike!
Very nice build. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful bike. Thanks for the tour.
Nice to see a bike that is a little more fancy for contrast.
That is one sweeeeet bike! I'm starting something along that line with a custom frame. At 6' 4" / 193cm, I reckon I've been riding "almost right" bikes for enough decades that it's time to get a bike that's "just right." I love those René Herse bits and I had them on my parts list too! Although I'm thinking Herse center-pull rather than canti (I love the feel of good center-pulls), but of course that'll depend how well everything plays together. Anyway, thanks for the tour of that luvly machine!
Great video - I just got off my custom Waterford rando bike in ST-14 tube set, running down tube shifters and is fitted with hydro disc brakes. Whiskey carbon hoops and 700c RH 38mm tires. A mix of modern and classic parts. Charge the phone and run the lights off the SON hub. Such a fun bike.
That is what dreams are made of
Nice bike. I always wanted one, but just could not afford one. Keep it forever.
That's a cool bike man! Cool video too!
Greg, this is a family show!😹
A friend calls that ‘Playing the Cello.’
Very much enjoyed that video!
Thanks for quality, tasteful background music.
Hollow tubing on bottle holders!
Always learn from your detailing and totally steady, up-close camera work!
It's like a piece of art , I enjoy to see this.
Ok you have me hooked and very interested in that bike and now I want one and since they no longer are around I guess the only way to get one is for you to give me yours. Ha. Great video, thank you and please keep them coming.
It's a piece of art! 👌
This was super interesting, I love hearing about thought-through specific parts and pieces(old steel tubing or brands) that I otherwise would not know about. Lovely color too
Impressive, man. Beautiful bike. Gorgeous and well engineered René Herse components for touring, I'm a v-brake man, but hard to deny the classic look and the superb praticality of those cantivelers for a 38c+fenders+road levers combo. And those subcompact cranks? Just stunning. To be honest I dont see any area of improvement in the bike itself. Offcourse some posh (and perhaps a bit of your fancy self) may have prefered that you use silver campa potenza group, but how can you deny the powerful trickled-down technology from Shimano: 11 speed mechanical ultegra were used by 2nd division cycling teams in Europe circa 2015! You cannot beat that performance, it's just the same than Dura-ace, just slightly heavier!
on a secondary note, one hs to appreciate how local the bike production can be. As being french, my dream bike is obviously made a local now-defunct company in the Pyrenées, Sunn.
You got my sub, man, keep it local and agro.
Very elegant, very classy. Love the little touches.
I don't own any really upscale bikes (unless you count a Bontrager Racelite as upscale; I do, but I don't think everyone does). I do ride some bikes inspired by upscale vintage bikes, like the Fuji Connoisseur.
Congratulations, that is well thought out bike build for sure! It's always exciting to see other bike mechanics build their own bikes, as a hobby bike mechanic I have many yeses and nos in my head when it comes to technical solutions and bike parts. Greetings from Croatia
Best video so far. Your bike choices are very different from mine, and that's what makes it interesting. The Waterford is a gem! Thanks for the tour.
Hi Andy. Thanks for the video, and that is a wonderful bike. I have a Waterford storie to share. Last March I found a Waterford, in my frame size, on the local craigslist. After a little back and forth the seller and I decided on a price of 650.00 dollars. After getting it home, and to my shock and amazement, the craigslist bike had been used, abused, neglected, and had some of the worst DIY work I had ever seen. In the wise words of a UA-camr, "My bike sucked"! However, with many new parts and many hours of careful work, it has become am absolutely wonderful bike. If anyone gets the chance to buy a used one, they are well worth the time and money. Have a nice summer. Tom
Great bike, sir.
That's a beautiful piece of machinery. I'd love to ride it.
Thank you so much for this video I worked in a bike shop for 5 years and it used to be a Schwinn dealer and I somehow never knew the relationship between Schwinn and Waterford 🤷♂️🤦
Paramount made at Waterford?
Beautiful overview of a stunning Waterford. So glad I got a bike from them before they closed. Must just hmm along the Midwest roads.
Cool. I believe these are what the Poms (English) call Audax bikes. I don't know what Australians call them, as I've not done one of their rides, but I've owned a fully equipped, mudgard shod, long distance bike some years ago. It was actually my favourite bike. I frequently rode it in preference to my carbon road bike, until an unfortunate crash put it out of service for a couple of months. A local rally driver's shop was the place recommended to weld up my broken frame. They did a decent job. Unfortunately the frame didn't last. It was rough, a Ribble Winter trainer, I believe it was called. It was rough, but I loved it.
This Waterford bike is a thing of beauty. It must be pretty heavy, but my god it's pretty. I'd like to see a riding video of it, to see how it goes on the road. It's a beautiful custom machine, and I'd like to see it in it's element, doing what it's supposed to do.
Dude! That's a Beautiful steed even though I have an '86 Trek 600 series LWB 56cm touring rig same color too. I'm at the same ballpark as you as far as the Waterford'$ build set-up. . . Nice Project.
Love this episode. I’m a new fan and enjoy this type of content- what a gorgeous bike
Nice set up on the Waterford. I’m sure it rides well and the feeling of having all your stuff with you and ready for any turn in the weather or nightfall is worth the efforts and expenses.
I have a Boulder Bicycle All Road with 650b wheels that was built by Waterford. It is finely crafted for sure right down to the quality of the paint job. It had traditional small diameter tubes with thin walls which give it a magical ride quality. I’ve done two 200K brevets with it. Mine also has Honjo’s, cantilever brakes by IRD in back Shimano on front for using rack bolts.
Campy 11 speed shifters and Shimano Ultegra deraileurs.
Rene Herse Baby shoe extra light tires set up tubeless on Pacenti bretvet rims with white industries t11 rear hub and a Son extra wide generator hub in front. “Compass” tail light and the Edelux headlight. Maes parallel handle bar and an SQlab saddle on a Nitto post.
Bike weighs 25lb with fenders and front rack. Feels like 20 when riding though. 🏁
Extra credit for the cat.
Congrats on all your success! It's a really beautiful bike, and a great walk through for style of bike that doesn't have a lot of content, and Waterford isn't on youtube much. I love my Waterford RST-22. It has randonneur geometry and can fit up to 38c tires.
This bike is gorgeous, to bad Waterford has closed, I'm currently working on a 77 schwinn super le tour 12.2.
Would love a video along the lines of of "Must have home tools" or something to that affect. Must have tools for folks wanting to learn how to maintain their own bikes, and teach their kids how to maintain theirs as well. Great content!
Beautiful bike, love the color and the history of Waterford. Yes, more of touring randonaee bikes, your shop, your town/ community
Thanks for sharing - can tell you're proud of it. Can you share more detail about the charging system? That sounds interesting.
I have a bike with R-8000 11spd group. And yes, the way it shifts and functions is fantastic. This may just be personal preference, but I like a triple for a touring set up. I don’t particularly like the big 16-t jump going on and off the big chainring. I can’t help but think that someday Shimano will reintroduce a triple crank as if it’s a new innovation. Remember biopace ?
I found a 79 Colnago Super in the dumpster one year ..all campi full panto .. was going to make it a funky touring rig.. but it tuned up so unbelievably crisp and clean and smooth.... I sold it for rent ... I ride fixed gears and track bikes.. usually the daily front brake. steel..... I understand all the goodies, but I love bikes with nothing ... My treasure is a 90s Landshark Trackshark pursuit , which I scored on FB marketplace ❤. I have 3 daily pursuit funnybikes I ride for work... Love your Waterford, and I know the American builders need your help in making bikes in the States. peace.....
I’m pretty much strictly MTB, but I love just about all bikes (especially custom builds) and really appreciate your videos. This bike is 🔥 🥇
Wow dude! Gorgeous
That is absolutely a refined piece of art. 😮
I love things that peoples have think tru with the best regard to detail because its their passion. Its not my taste with all the chrome and polish metal,,but i can recognize the beauty of it,good job man !
Love my Waterford
I like the hammer tone fenders.
I love my '98 Trek 7500. It soars. Thanks for sharing your love for a well-made bike.
