This is great. I love anything like this. As a kid I would help my mam go shopping on the High Street. I remember places like Turnbulls the butchers, Bywells, Knotts shoe shop and Wilkes furniture shop. There was also a fish shop just up from Knotts but I can't remember the name. Anyway, happy memories of my mam.
[photo at 8:25} I lived in the second block down above the shops and my Nana lived above us. Outside toilet at the back. This photo would have been taken from the Ritz picture house. The far left of the photo is the beginning of what we called the Crezzy [Crescent] where we'd play as kids .Memories.
Remember much of this well, there was so many pubs on the high st that we used to try and have a half pint in each but rarely made it farther than Rowells which had the coldest beer on the street due to the sandstone cellar, not a nice place to be at throwing out time.
this is great, but the picture of Metrople at 4:06 can't be 1970 there is a poster of the Singer SEAL and his a kiss from a rose, which came out 1994. I'm guessing the vision hire was a longtime closed shop then. Be interested to her other people views. but loving the video
And the baltic is 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 iv got photos from early 1900s that show it was some sort of fortified dock or castle, it looks nothing like what it looks like now
Yep iv seen photos of gateshead back then and our councils need locked up for what they have done to the hole ne area from South shields being a royal bourgh and utter lies about the history of newcastle and how important it was to the king during the civil War and even way back in ancient times
Great pictures and memories thank you

Cool fact gateshead used to be called gateside and was part of the kingdom of bernicia witch newcastle was the capital not Bamburgh
Its mad to think some of those people could have been my granny or granda , or even their mams and dads
