16:51 that thumbnail bit spoke to me so hard lol! I've spent a lot more time over the last year trying to "perfect" my thumbnail and I despise the additional hours it adds to the production process.
Congratulations on your success! So great to see this. It's nice to have an outlet for creative ideas. Back in the "ol' days" I'd still do a lot of what I'm doing now, but my dad and hamster would see it and that was about it.
Congrats Sammy G. Love your stuff. I really liked how you recognize your privilege and what factors led to you having the opportunities you do. You still have made the most of them but they aren’t opportunities everyone has, and it’s refreshing to see someone who knows this and acknowledges it. Social programs to help those without these opportunities are so important. Love your content, and as an amateur guitar player I always learn a lot from you. PS I never got a plaque from UA-cam when I hit 1M. What’s up with that?!?
4:49 - I suppose I should have clarified that I was truly interested in working on a musical project with you...rather than "just for the tubez"...I write music for film and TV and am always on the lookout for interesting textures/players/collaborators etc. I've been doing it for a long time too. (almost as long as I've been on youtube!!! I've been youtubing since 2007 and professionally writing for film/tv since 2009) I've done music for NBC, CBS, ABC, MTV, AMC, HBO, Warner Bros, Paramount, Harley Davidson, Google and more. Anyway - thanks for answering my question even if the answer is a very polite "I'm not interested because you're too small". ;) All good. Peace and Love from Calgary, AB.
He politely said I have no idea who you are! Lol,,, It's also probably safer for him, since not knowing you he doesn't know your talent level, and he sounds like someone who would definitely squirm to get out of working with someone if he accidentally found out they were more talented.
@@DJMerck You’re not wrong! (Although I’m not 100% sure about the working with others bit…) I’m not hurt by it though, Like I said - I appreciate the fact that he even acknowledged the question.

Man… mostly commenting for the algorithm gods, but you talking about your parents helping you and then your golden ticket that you capitalized on is awesome. Speaks volumes to your character, man. Knowing it might not happen but doing everything you can while you have the opportunity. Love your content, so glad you made it happen. Shout out to your parents!
Best thing: I am my own boss. Worst thing: I am my own boss. I feel ya. If you can, you should totally take this summit thing on tour. I'm in Florida and I'd love to attend but I can't afford to fly out there.
As a small creator in a niche while working in my niche, it’s definitely hard to find the time and energy to do it. I appreciate your honest comments on these questions and topics that were brought up. I have a friend who was in my “youtuber class” but he found a trending niche and jumped into it so now he’s blasting into being almost 10k subs while I’m at 50 subs lol
Thank you Sir...appreciate your time and honesty...I've been debating how hard to push and if indeed there is ANY profit margins to having a music channel here on Y.T.
Congrats on the 1 million subscribers! I appreciate your honesty about doing UA-cam and I think your transparency in the creative process make you a very relatable and likeable content creator. Here's to the future 2 million video!
Fellow Canadian (Northern Ontario) here. I remember finding you on UA-cam years ago. My first impression of you was that you clearly loved music. You were an honest 'real-deal.' I lost track of you over the years -- life, you know -- but recently happened across you again. I'd lost my spark over the years; going from 8 hour woodshed sessions to not touching my guitar for months on-end. You, Sir, don't appear to have ever lost yours, and that's become helpful to me in finding mine again. You keep kicking ass, ok? Thanks.
Dearest Sammy G. I live in San Diego and am in the US Navy. I can’t really afford to buy a ticket to arguably the best summit of all time. (wife and kid as well as California’s insane cost of living.) However I can swing by the Hilton on one of those days. I’d love to say hi. Perhaps talk for a while. Anywho I love your content. Please keep up the great work. Looking forward to knowing you’re in my great city
Love your channel, I think I got started watching your gimmicky gadgets vids because I recognized some that I own... Now I am just starting out making my own videos, and I'm seeing UA-cam in a whole new way. I appreciate videos like this to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes.
Congratulations on 1 million. I've been following for years and wanted to say thank you for the content and your courses. There are tons of UA-cam guitar courses out there and when you put yours on sale this past Christmas I pulled the trigger on the bundle. The amount of print out material was the best part of the course for me, having all this knowledge in an organized printed out format made it a lot easier to learn, over just watching UA-cam or searching for good scale diagrams online. The rudiments and beyond the basics was super useful and singlehandely gave me a huge leap in my playing. I do wish the craft of soloing was more like the recent solo course you released but considering I got it as part of a bundle there was still tons of great information in there. Thanks again and congrats on 1 mil fellow Canadian!
God this is fascinating. Thanks Sammy G. I'd love to come hang out with you all. But honestly, it's just really good to get a sense of what you UA-camrs go through. Big fan of you, Rick Beato, Rhett Schull, Paul Davids and Marty Schwartz.
I've always loved watching your videos both me and wife enjoy your content for different reasons and I'm so glad you reached this terrific milestone! 😊
I still can't play a guitar well but my theory knowledge has increased and this channel has been a great resource - I've improved immensely even. My BASS skills have gone up from this channel too and has led me to BASS channels. (Congrats on the 1MM mark!)
@@withershin I'm the same to be honest. I like having the knowledge about the theory of a concept beforehand so that way when my hands learn how to do it, there's no real hurdle in implementing the technique
I think it would be really cool to have you design and have one built a custom guitar for yourself and do a walk-through step-by-step with Fender or Gibson or whoever I think that would be really cool video
Congrats on the milestone SammyG! Wish I could be at the summit as sure would learn a ton and it’d be great fun, but still difficult to travel from here. Hopefully another one next year.
Congrats and thanks for sharing this Q&A. I totally agree with what you said about your downtime and not watching more music on UA-cam because that’s already your job. A while ago I taught guitar and that year I didn’t even want to work on music at all.
This was great! Love the transparency. I will never hold a golden spoon against someone if they're honest about it. I feel like you've done a fantastic job with the opportunities you've had, so even if you had a leg up, everything from that point forward has been your own hard work and it shows!
From a fellow (smaller) Canadian UA-camr, congrats on your amazing success. You are an inspiration for what's possible for other Canadians on UA-cam. Cheers!
hey man, you have great work ethics! and you have a humble, quite likeable bubbly personality!! Your content is very welcome I'm playing the guitar a bit too... nothing too fancy, of course.... I like your vids not only because they are entertaining and give plenty of tips and insights into learning guitar... most of all, I like learning speaking and using English from you... you are a very well spoken person of your kind of mother-tongue speakers... Thank you for this and pls do keep up the good work!
Great video! I've been working on my own guitar-related channel since 2018. I've learned A LOT in a very general sense. It is very helpful when a successful UA-camr opens up about their journey.
For the Guga Foods collaboration you could make a song for each course of the meal, using only kitchen items as instruments. (Example: amplified spaghetti and bread bass guitar with piezo pickups. Pots and pans percussion.) 😂👍
Thanks Sammy G, this really explains all of the hard work you've put into making your musical goals in life come true. I don't know if you'll read this suggestion or not. But as a guitarist that's had a lot of ups and downs in my musical aspirations. I would wonder if you've ever sold or traded off a piece of musical equipment that you later regretted doing? Mine was the 67 Candy Apple Red Fender Jaguar that I bought used when I was 16 for $100. I later made a foolish decision that I was quitting music and sold the guitar for $150. Then fast forward to about 20 years later, I was at a guitar show and saw that same guitar go for $1,600, and I don't even want to think about how much it's worth now. I think that selling that guitar and the speaker cabinet my Dad built me are my two biggest regrets when it comes to music!
I agree with you sammy g! I seriously think you have the most positive community in guitar type youtube. I never really see any bad comments or anyone shaming anyone on their ability. Lov what you do and congrats on the million!
