A bit of advice from Canada. In winter, having open valves in your water lines isn’t good enough if the water in those lines freeze. You need to blow the lines out with compressed air before freeze up. 😊
Brian, your pump house...it needs better insulation, the pipes need to be insulated, the system needs drain valves and the whole thing should have a way of staying warm. At the minimum you'll need heat tape for those pipes with insulation on top of that if you plan to use it in the winter. That relief valve at the bottom only protects the system if the system is a LIQUID. It isn't meant to prevent ice from bursting the components. At this point in your operation you should drain the whole thing in November, blow out any standing water with compressed air, remove the filters, open every valve and leave it alone until March when it warms up again. Keep on riding!
I'd also dig holes for a lot of it to help with the insulation. I'm sure he'll have plenty of repairs once it warms up, so might as well build it right this time. He'll figure it out though.
7:00 "and propane accessories" -Hank Hill :) Love the update and thanks as always for including the trail cams updates. The two bobcats were pretty cool, along with those two bucks having a little go :)
Hey Brian! Love your biking videos. I found a solution to game cam video harvesting. A couple of years ago I volunteered at an outdoor logging museum in Maine. One job was to go around to all the Game cams and collect the SD cards and replace them with clean cards. The cams were high in the trees. I had to lug a 15' ladder around 20 acres to each tree. That was too much work for a lazy guy like me so I donated one of my Raspberry Pi computers (RPi, a small, credit card sized computer - $35). I stapled a 10 foot USB extension cord down the back of the tree, permanently plugged in the the Game Cam. Now with the RPi in hand, a little script installed and a couple of thumbdrives I simply walked up to the tree, plugged in the USB cable for a couple of minutes while the RPi automatically downloaded all images and videos to the RPi and cleaned the Game Cam SD card. No more climbing trees. No more removing SD cards. No more hauling a ladder around... Give it a try! :-) Everstoke looks super cool... Best of luck on the dream!
I think I mentioned this before, if you dug a nice deep hole in the ground and put all the electrical and water sundries in there (covered of course like a root cellar), you'd likely have much fewer issues like this. Let mother nature work FOR you, not against you!
Life’s always harder in the winter. Seeing the atmospheric river systems that you all are experiencing, I think I’ll take our Canadian winter weather over what your 2023 winter is dishing out any day. Stay safe and dry. Then again. You are in Peru, hoping your luggage isn’t lost forever, so enjoy the riding down there.
Yup. He's learning the hard way, which is understandable. He'll figure it out, but hope he reads these comments cause there's some really good advice. Dealing with freezing temps is a completely different operation.
Epic video. Love your energy! Really cool to see snow bikes! New to me. Thank you for sharing and all of the trials and tribulations you go through. Getting stuck in the snow sucks! Keep riding bro! You inspire me!!
Fantastic, Everstoke is coming along nicely. Your wild animal vids shows just how active your area is. 1st serious winter. Now, if you could just figure out a chair lift... snow bike's could be a thing...
I was curious how off grid cabins prevent freezing, the genius idea people used was compost. TL:DR put compost adjacent to what you wish to keep warm and its natural bio mass will heat it through winter. Victorians used to make hot/green houses by having a spine wall one side closed in with glass the other side the compost. I'd put in one of those automatic fire extinguisher balls just to be safe (tbh no higher risk that the heat lamp) Everstoke could be heated and run or mountain lion/grizzly caca (there's also a ready supply of not determined origin by the freeway if I recall.)
Water will flash freeze under pressure, so the water temp in the pipes could have been 25*F and still be in a liquid state. That is why the pressure relief valve didn't open until after the freeze happened.
I don’t think that housing is two pieces, pretty sure it just fractured along the threads. You may need to find a new type of filter housing that has a drain on it unless you’re taking them off when winterizing it. Gravity is just gonna keep a large amount of water in them. Have similar issues with designing vehicles with water systems
@BKXC If you wanted a cheap way around van heat you could get a Chinese diesel heater and put it under the passenger seat then plumb it to an AUX tank under the hood, those things sip fuel. Then run the Afterburner controller for Chinese heaters for under $400-500. You'll be super warm and chances of dying from carbon monoxide poisoning are almost zero.
Good call on plumping the diesel tank to under the hood. Promaster hood space is more cramped than any vehicle ever. I’ve had bad luck with my Chinese diesel heater only worked a few times, and now it shuts itself off. I admittedly haven’t taken the time to go through all the fixes. But even having mine run for 1 min before shutting off is a big difference they get it too hot when running full time.
Front Wheel Drive doesn't really make Sense on a Van at all. In your Case a 4x4 driven Vehicle is the right one for you to get around off the Road. Nice Video anyway. You Guys take care. Southwest Germany is waving a Hand 💯🙋♂
FWD is typically better in ice and snow than RWD and yeah 4x4 is ideal but back when Brian bought his Promaster (I also got one right before he did) a 4x4 Sprinter was double the price.
just be aware propane gas heaters can give of carbon monoxide if they are not in perfect combustion order. Make sure your carbon monoxide alarm monitor is wouking and the battery is not dead because that is what you could be if the concentrations are high enough or your exposed to it over night.
The well house is a good datapoint on the efficacy of renewable energy. Fun to play with, but really just a hobby. In your words, "Thank goodness for propane."
Stop wasting time and money trying to figure out on your own what doesn't work. I'm sure you have viewers in places like Alaska that can show you how to set up for winter. People that know how to stay warm in your van are all over UA-cam, try "Living the van life" channel and the furnace he has. Just don't put anymore money in the Ram. Look into keeping the well house warm with biomass or geothermal, or just burn money!
Geez, the irony and that you start the video out getting stuck in the snow, stepping out of the van only to see the wheel still spinning. What comes to mind but the recent tragedy of Jeremy Renner who nearly killed himself getting run over by his own 15,000-pound plow truck.

Haha, I always enjoy your struggles at Everstoke episodes! Also loved the deer flipping out over the trench in the dirt!
The struggle is real! Had a blast riding with ya. Already watched this on Patreon, but had to click on it again 👍🏻

Came to comment this ... Hope he sees it!

See the deer rack there antlers was pretty cool. You should definitely go shed hunting when the snow melts off and start a display of your findings.
Those game cameras are something else! Wow!
Seems like a winch front and rear on the van could be all kinds of useful not just for when you get stuck.
SNOW CHAINS ⛓️!! Winter tyres 🛞 will be good 👍🏾

HI....from Norway !!we always love the snow😆😆🤘🤘
Amazing project, Brian! See you in ten years, when your camping and ride passes are sold out all season long! Looking forward to it:)

I'd get a snowmobile and take turns shuttling
That’s a good size Bear you have watching the property.
Build a framework around the wellhouse and cover with 4year greenhouse plastic. The passive solar gain should help with temps in there.
Lots of wildlife up on that pass. Careful with the propane heater inside the van.
You see solar still has its challenges.
I see you put spinners on the van, nice one.
I have been waiting for the update about Everstoke. Finally! 😄
U need tyre snow shoes... The modern equivalent of snow chains.
And winter tyres!
can't wait to see more everstoke episodes
Have you ever tried one of the little buddy heaters? Just wondering how they work for heating inside the van.
I don't know why but these are my favorite videos.
Also have a Promaster with All-terrains...they don't do well in mud and snow. They do make some pretty easy-to-install chains now though.

love the everstoke videos
Awesome content buddy 🤩👍 Sno-Go action is always sick 🤘🔥
I've been wanting to try that ski bike.
you should have done that jump! haha :)
This is awesome! Do you own a mountain? 😆
Nothing a portable Diesel Generator can't fix
Fat bike would be fun out there

Might there be skiing at Everstoke?
Mexico one minute and Everstoke the next....wow you sure move around Brian
One day you'll get a wolf on the trail cam 🐺

How do you brake those snow bikes? We never had those in the philipines🇵🇭 cos we never had snow here🤣 looks sick dude!
Gets to -40 where I live.
All you need is a bootleg ski lift and you got yourself true Everstoke season round
Game Camera footage could be a separate channel. You have a special piece of land there my friend
Hate to say it but I think I enjoy these Everstoke updates more than your mtb videos... sorry Brian! 🤘🏼🤙🏼
sounds like the property needs ATV's and snowmobiles
You want snow rated tires. All terrain tires suck in snow. FYI.

Should call the place "Ever Broke"
Froze my butt just from watching bbrrrrrrr
If you’re not already be a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector in the van for…
Otherwise it could be a very peaceful sleep
I told him the same thing. He said he already has one.
What is that thing behind the fox at minute 5:24
Just eye reflections I think. It was a coyote!
The well house is a good datapoint on the efficacy of renewable energy. Fun to play with, but really just a hobby. In your words, "Thank goodness for propane."
Get a fatbike. Definitely could make some content with that!
Just more proof that battery power is not the future.
Well you bought a fwd van..
Two bucks testing each other, camera men spend hours on end trying to capture that.

Fully agree, this is the second winter where we get a video *everything died*.
Get some help from people who actually live in cold climates
At this early stage of development, I would probably “winterize” the property and leave it be from November-March. But, I’m a Californian🤣
yo
Anybody from india 😂
Fatbike.
You got to like when you get stuck. Not!!!!!!
First
Second!
