Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. I've always enjoyed Film Associates material
Love it! Thank you.
Ahhhh…..the good ‘ol days!
I was born at St. Vincent Hospital in 1961 is so interesting to look back.
Imagine milk on the front porch today....... porch pirates stealing milk 🥛 🤦
When Los Angeles was beautiful and affordable.
Milkman.. wow. I thought that was small town stuff... nice go look back on tho.. thanks
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. In the City of the Angels, sometimes a few halos slip. When they do, that's when I go to work. I carry a badge.
"It was Friday, August 5th. It was hot in Los Angeles. We were working the day watch out of Homicide. The boss is Captain Warman. My partner is Bill Gannon. My name is Friday.
It was 5:30pm- just about the time Bill and I were ready to sign out and go home. And then, something happened that kept us busy all night."
My name's Friday. Joe Friday. I drive a bug.
Where were the Helm's Bakery trucks?
3:50 Look at the smog.
Here kids, have some asthma!
Still bad nowadays but, nowhere near as thick during the “Bad Air Days” of the 60s and 70s.
This really feels like this wanted to capture the environment of the era, no propaganda or fake smiles, like a archival of suburban life
My, how far we've come!😂
i loved that black type1. i was born in 66, but in NorCal. i now live here in the city of the angels as a retiree. i love this town
What Los Angeles used to be. So sad to see it now.
You can blame nimbys
Wonderful video 😊😊😊😊😊
Originally released in 1966.
Back when downtown LA was overrun by civilized human beings. Truly depressing.
You can blame nimbys for the state LA is in.
What year was this?
Copyright mark says 1966
3:49 Is that fog or smog?
The milk man was still running in 1966?
In 1963 approx 30% of Milk was
Home delivered.
By 1975 that was down to 7%
It hung around in some places
into the 90's.
@@jamyla Home milk delivery is still available in most areas of Seattle, WA by Smith Brothers Dairy.
'This is the city. It was Tuesday and so hot you could smell the tar on the garage roof...or was that Bill Gannon's shorts?'
3:35 Never been to CA but I'll bet today's drivers wouldn't consider the roads crowded.
"L.A.: A City and It's People" So, it's a comedy or a horror movie?
1966 год, в титрах указано
Was this meant for 2nd graders?
Yes. It's an educational film.
Wow, no homeless encampments back then
Crazy. I can't imagine why they wouldn't film on skid row. /s
its a oligarghy today thats why
Yes! No obese people either eating flaming hot cheetos
@@rippingmyheartwassoeasy And a 130-ounce diet Mt. Dew to even it out.
Wow, homes cost $30k back then, apartments were $100 a month, gas was .35 cents a gallon, and parking was .50 cents all day in Downtown.
Back in the day when detective Friday would mess you up if you had too much lip with a cop.
If you were one of those hippies or dropouts looking to roll an unsuspecting tourist he would take care of business
A den of iniquity now. An embarrassment!
💅 🔫 💣
What went wrong here?❤
This makes LA look really boring
Back when it was a conservative city.
No. Just sane.
@@kamakaziozzie3038 Funny how the ONLY time it was sane was when it was conservative. What are the chances of that? 🤔
@Minong_Manitou_Mishepeshu This video is a typical documentary of the time period, cherry picking what is shown.
@@jdm1039 And it just so happens the golden era as when it was conservative. If it was cherry picking it would be easy for you to show a beautiful well run blue city. Good luck doing that.
Yes sir! Conservative communities are waaayyy better cause we see exactly how it is nowadays being dark blue and "progressive" :(
So what went wrong then? California seems like a experimental facility gone wrong...how much was planned by you know who? Have the laws changed much since this film? ❤UK.
It was taken over by Democrats. That answer is the same answer for most of the ills of this country.
Everybody decided they wanted to live there, driving up costs.
@RickBerg-b9k It seemed such a nice place to live, sunny clean and progressive and now it seems like a parasite harvest festival. Why are the laws being changed to suit crimes? Why does it seem like the homeless don't any help from such a great nation with lots of money and ideas but the homeless situation just gets worse. I get why they want the temperature and environment on the streets. Some investments are much needed. I feel sorry for them some of them have untreated medical, mental health issues that are untreated, so drug use sky rockets. Shame.
My god it used to be boring
