Very useful review…. No loud music… No ‘I’m an expert instructor’…..No hard sell…. Just good information broken down to any level of gun enthusiast… Great Job…!!!!!
I have a regular P365 in 9mm and the LCP Max, I find myself mainly carrying the LCP Max, it’s really just the size and weight, it’s easier and more comfortable. I usually carry appendix or pocket carry. Great review, keep it up.
@@willwilliam217 Same here. A 13 shot sub 1lb 380 with real sights, why even bother with anything bigger? And the thing is super easy to shoot fast and accurately.
Yeah, I thought the LCP Max would be reserved for only t-shirt and shorts days, but it carries so effortlessly that it really makes carrying the 365 seem like I'm carrying a full-sized 1911.
I have them both also and carry them both about equally, the P365 for iwb or the Max for pocket carry. But ever since someone on the internet pointed out that carrying the Max with a round chambered is like carrying a 1911 cocked and unlocked, I've been a little skeptical. So my questions to you guys are : Do you carry the Max with a round in the chamber? And If so have you had any problems?
I have the LCP MAX and a Walther PPS M2 LE. LCP MAX is my EDC. Why? It's small and fits in every pocket. The worst defensive hand gun is the one you don't have when it's needed. LCP MAX solves this problem for me. Can hit 8" targets at 20 yards with reasonable accuracy. Out of box it failed to return to battery on all ammo. Field stripped it, cleaned it meticulously, and oiled the slide and slide rail. Has been 100% reliable since. Although I was very disappointed with the initial out of box experience, I am glad to have this gun every single day.
I had the exact same experience with failing to return to battery the during the first 50 rounds. I cleaned it and oiled it well and since then it's been 100% reliable.
@@SlurpingSoup With a round in the chamber, pull the slide back about 3/4" and slowly release your grip. If the slide does not return to battery, use your finger and press on the extractor. Press the extractor at the point closet to the rear sight. The slide should return to battery. This behavior still exists on my LCP MAX, but it does RTB when firing at the range. I think it is a tension issue with the spring. I read about this on another post, but can't remember where. I'd call Ruger and explain the behavior if you can reproduce it as above. They should be able to fix it. P.S. make sure the contact points on the slide are lubed and test again, if you have not done so already.
I have the LCP max and sig 365 9mm also and a sig xmacro. I love my sigs but have been carrying the LCP max alot more the weight of it is just so nice and easy to carry and forget you are wearing. the sigs are just so much better quality in every way.... but a smaller gun in the pocket is better then a gun left at home.
I bought the LCP, specifically for pocket carry. I can accept it being harder getting good groups at the range, because it's not a range gun. I train with it to get familiar with using it, but in real life I won't be trying to get "good groups". In a high stress situation, I'll just be pointing in the direction of center mass. If one shot hits in the center of the chest but the other nine are spread across the torso, I've still stopped the threat. I hope.
I don't group very well at 7yds, pulling low-left, which I don't do with larger pistols. At the ranges it's likely to ever be used it will be fine, and I've made a mental note to aim a little high right. It's just too small for my hands and the trigger finger goes way too far through. I carry it more than anything, both in pocket and appendix.
It's possible you might perform better in a high stress situation if you have trained thoroughly and your "will" to defeat the threat is high...but this is just a theory from a guy who only shoots occasionaly.
Thanks for a very thorough review. I'm really a fan of the LCP Max due to it's size and weight. It's very comfortable to carry all day. Five extra ounces makes a difference after 8 or 10 hours.
Great comparison, thanks 👍 When the Max came out, I thought about upgrading & almost did but after consideration, I decided it'd be a best to stick with my original (gen 2) LCP1. The main reason I carry it is for it's ability to practically disappear in my pocket. I have larger carry guns for winter or other scenarios but it's almost always super hot & humid where I live, darn near summer 9 months out of the year. So the smallest, lightest gun that I can comfortably carry just makes sense. I'm much more likely to carry every day if it's not a hassle to strap up every time I leave the house. I carry with the 6rd flush fit in the pistol & a 10rd extended in my other pocket. I feel comfortable with 16+1 on hand if I absolutely need capacity. I've become so accustom to carrying it over all these years & have practiced with it so much, that moving to another set up would feel like a waist. I've gotten to where I can draw & shoot my LCP from the pocket fairly fast & accurately, took a while but I'm in the groove now for sure. Upgrading to a double stack feels counterintuitive, like it would defeat the purpose & benefits of carrying a true pocket gun IMO. You know, If it ain't broke... Thanks for the comparison again. Very detailed & informative, appreciate it 👍
Thanks for the great video and excellent review. I was hoping to come across this comparison between the LCP MAX and the SIG P365 .380 because this is exactly what I'm considering.
The local gun shop really tried to sell me on the sig being the better option and almost convinced me. But I still went with the lcp max just on size only. I'm totally satisfied with my choice.
And it’s a true pocket gun, most people think it’s just my cell phone in my pocket. I’ve got other micro guns but the Max is the only one I feel comfortable carrying in my pocket, I just need to practice a bit more than I normally would.
Interesting assessment. To me the difference between the P365 in 9mm versus .380 ACP is a case of looking for the next decimal place in capability. In a true up close and personal self-defense scenario the classical difference between the two rounds doesn’t mean much. If anything - in that same scenario - the .380 version may be more controllable for some folks. That’s an opinion, obviously. Most of the .380 ACP ballistics tests you see all have a common thread: bullet expansion is hard to get with a 2.75” barrel, and therefore, some recommend sticking with FMJ rounds to at least get the best penetration. Again there are numerous opinions on that subject most seemed to be trying to either justify the .380 as a defensive caliber or to illustrate why it’s not. I personally believe the .380 is an adequate caliber for civilian defensive carry but I would prefer a longer barrel and the ability to handle +P loads. In the interest of full disclosure here, I own the LCP Max. I do not own a P365. But like you, the first time I fired a P365 I was very accurate with it. To achieve the same accuracy out of my LCP Max I had to spend a lot more time on the range with it. That was a good thing from a comfort factor. Great review as always.
I have a LCP Max and it's loaded with Underwood Extreme Defender ammo which I believe it the best for self defense and they're not hollow points so no expansion needed. My second choice is either Federal HST or Hydra Shock Deep which in ballistics tests expand very well.
Thanks for a well done, easy to follow review. I chose the LCP Max because the only reason I carry a 380 is for the small size and light weight in a pocket. If I carry something on my belt, I personally don't see a reason why it shouldn't be at least a 9mm. YMMV.
My wife absolutely lovers her new P365/380. She used to shoot my Bersa Thunder380CC. It was snappier and uncomfortable for her to shoot. She shoots the 365/380 very well. With the pinky extension on the 10 round Mag, she can easily get a 3 finger grip. I don’t think she would like the LCP Max as well. The grip doesn’t look very ergonomic
MCarbo came up with a magazine release spring for the LCPII that significantly improves the inadvertent release of the mag. Their MAX parts should be available in Late Oct or Nov. I own have both the 365, 9mm & the Max. The biggest difference for me is the weight.
For my personal needs, the Ruger wins for a summer time shorts pocket carry. If I were carrying a gun the size and weight of the 365, I'm staying with 9mm. Sig should have made their .380 smaller. I don't see it being a real big seller.
I think Sig thought it was competing against the S&W 380 EZ, and the 365 does a great job of that....but then Ruger dropped the LCP max on the world's head, and boom. "It was at that moment that sig realized, it fked up."
It's a shame to be reminded how the pocket .380s and subcompact 9mms became such dogmatic standards that how soft and pleasant a subcompact .380 is to shoot isn't appreciated Saying the .380 P365 should've just been yet another pocket pistol is just missing out on the sweet spot these sized guns are for the cartridge
I look for the smallest pistol possible. I carried the LCP for the longest time, I actually owned two at one point. I just picked up the Max and it is my perfect carry gun. It doesn't get any better. If they could figure out how to make the trigger smoother, that would be awesome but I like the heaviness of it for safety.
I own both of these. The Sig is by far the more enjoyable shooter due to its slightly larger size and miles better trigger. As usual, a compromise. Interestingly, I've been testing the Magguts internals designed for the P365 9mm mag, and it works perfectly in the 380, giving you 12 rounds in the flush fit magazine. My handloads are running the 90 gr Gold Dot or XTP at 1180 fps. These would be very unpleasant in the Ruger, and I would hesitate to shoot them anyway due to the extremely light slide weight. The Sig handles them perfectly.
That’s actually the way it’s sold. Never seen it include more than one mag or with a 12 rd for that matter. You get the 10 rd and extender option. That’s it.
@@KBMC4 well maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about and it was sold both ways. Just giving my experience and what I read. You got a better deal I guess !
A little surprised it took so long for a 10 round pocket 380, years after the 365 magazine capacity magic was introduced. My job and lifestyle require me to still carry very small a lot of the time, so of course the LCP MAX appealed to me. I was concerned with the intermittent slide locking back after the last round, but it holds open every time during live fire. The only thing I want too crazy about was the trigger, since it’s similar to the LCP2. Added the Galloway Precision trigger and a Talon Grip, best $50 you can spend on the MAX! Trust me.
@@Followme556 The trigger is definitely adequate for a pocket size 380. I’ve never been a big fan of enclosed hammer, DAO type carry guns, kind of like shooting a crappy revolver. Long heavy pull with plenty of creep and a crunchy break, not ideal for a small gun that’s not the easiest to hold onto.
@@mi_cheap_guns2925 I personally want a long creeping pull in a pocket gun, or really any carry gun. My priority number 1 with a gun is to not shoot myself. lol. Once you put in the practice DAO is very easy to shoot. I think the MAX is supposed to be about 6-7lbs, which would be astoundingly light for a DA revolver.
@@Followme556 The long pre travel I totally understand, if it has no manual thumb safety. I can do without the creep and crunch. I’ve had almost all the pocket size 380s over the years, I actually thought the Kahr 380s had the best triggers that weren’t SAO guns. If they’d make a 10 round variant, I’d be all over it. I guess that’s the great thing about the gun world, we can all have different likes and dislikes. There’s something for all of us.
@@mi_cheap_guns2925 We can agree on not wanting crunch. :D I agree that Kahr's have magnificent DAO triggers. Sadly Kahr doesn't make a double stack anything. For reasons totally unknown to man.
Good review. As much as I like that Sig p365 in .380, I will probably buy the LCP Max because I want a deep carry micro pistol and I want a full size gun like the H&K VP9
Just a little bit of two cents from my mom. She has shot these two and the shield ez. She likes the weight and size of the Ruger, but it's harder for her to control. The other two are what she is deciding between. Keep in mind she has health issues that affect her hand strength more so than even an average mom. The slightly bigger gun gives her some extra surface area. As for my, I will get an LCP max as some point but I recently got a 365xl and I find it plenty comfy to carry all the time.
@@Followme556 They also aren't in the same class in quality. The 365XL is just a vastly superior platform with a significantly more powerful cartridge.
@@pewpewTN The XL is a truly gigantic handgun compared to a Ruger LCP Max. What's next, you going to compare the LCP Max to a submachine gun? Ive owned plenty of sigs and rugers. Both brands are high quality weapons.
@@Followme556 What are you talking about? Why are you trying so hard to shove Ruger's dong down your throat? I never compared them. You said it was heavier in your comment & I tried to politely convey "No shit moron, it's a 9mm with enough barrel length to actually get expansion" without having to put it that way
Nice interesting review. I recently got a LCP Max and also found out it took some concentration to get reasonable groups. So it’s nice to hear it’s not just me. I haven’t shot a 365 but getting better groups using a Glock 42 with TruGlow sights is much easier.
I would recommend the Sig, I have the Glock and it was not reliable enough for carry. The Sig is the same size as the Glock and it holds 4 more rounds. Sig also has the option of the 12 and 15 round mags. The P365 also more accurate than the Glock 42. Too each his own I just figured I would let you know. Have a happy 4th.
@@LibsNG The Glock 42 is incredibly reliable. I've had one for years & the only malfunction I ever had was with a cheapo extended mag & it even runs with that thing now that the mag springs broke in. The Glock is also quite a bit thinner than the 365 380. Not really the same size at all. I still carry the Glock 42 in my gym shorts pocket, Sig P365XL as EDC & I have the 365 380 just for fun because I wanted a 380 optic host. Love all 3 guns, just trying to clarify the info on the 42. If it's not reliable, it needs to be sent back because the 42 is notoriously reliable.
I've owned the LCP since its start. Just upgraded to a Max 10+1. I pocket carry unchambered without holster. Feels a tad bit different in the pocket but still it remains my EDC. I picked up a couple 12+1 mags and it now works very well with my IWB or pocket. Gives a better grip for my paws too. Love it IMHO. Still have my LCPII also and plan on keeping it.
This is my unasked for advice: I had a lethal force encounter with a homeless person who was on drugs - riding an LED lit bike at midnight carrying a bat screaming at and following my fiancé and I for blocks up to our home. I was able to unbutton my bottom shirt pocket discretely for a faster draw, but knew I would have to rack before firing. I learned that day that I was VERY wrong to carry unchambered. I carried a large compact gun, and was able to draw with blinding speed / accuracy.....but, because I was under so much stress, I fumbled the first rack and did not load a bullet into the chamber. I then had to rack the pistol briskly multiple times, still unsure if it was ready to fire - and I was spazzing. I have shot for >20 years, and never thought I could be so incompetent with a simple movement under stress. The man was approaching, and was probably 7-8 yards away - just too far to take full advantage and kill me. MOST defensive shootings are much closer - and I got very lucky. I think anyone who is scared of a chambered firearm needs to just get a high-retention HARD holster, and get used to carrying one in the pipe. It took me all of about two weeks to get used to it and not be scared of the gun, but if that bum had been a few yards closer, he probably would have charged as soon as I drew brained me with the bat. Your odds of surviving an assault with a bludgeon in the USA are 35%.....firearm is 55%.
My LCP Max goes everywhere with me conveniently and unobtrusively carried in my front pocket. My P365 goes in a belt holster, when I carry it, end of story.
I carry both of these and for me there from different classes. The Sig being a high-capacity subcompact 9 and the Ruger being a high capacity subcompact 380. There is a significant weight difference which effects carry. I carry the Ruger in my pocket and the Sig on a belt holster depending on the situation.
He reviewed the 380 version of the 365. More apples to apples because they're two of the only (THE only?) subcompact 380s with a 10+ capacity. I had hoped Sig would downsize the 380 version of the 365 so it would be more comparable to LCP/Bodyguard sized guns. Keeping it the same size as the 9mm made it irrelevant to the vast majority of subcompact 9 mm carriers, but they made a gun more akin to the Glock 42 (but with higher capacity) which makes it more shootable for many while slightly reducing the concealability. For me, the Max is the preferred carry in warm weather while I carry the 9mm 365 the rest of the time. The 380 version only really makes sense for people who have a hard time shooting small 9mms.
@@JamesWilliams-he4lb I agree I love my 365 but due to its size and weight it is best with 9 mm. If they were to downsize the 365 for the 380 I would go for it.
I hope they come out with the XL version and also release a 15 round mag for it. That would be a great home defense weapon for those with hand strength issues. I've wanted a high capacity modern striker .380 for years and think they would sell well.
My LCP Max has been a dream to carry, not to shoot. It’s good to go up close & personal. Have p365 in 9mm & preparing to get .380 due to its modularity & interchangeability with its 9mm sibling. I could carry same system in differing chambering according to personal preference. Max will always be a deep carry or backup. Great video!
depending on what I'm wearing I carry a LCP Max (warmer weather) and a 365 9mm (cooler weather) and the weight is what really makes the difference for me. The LCP just feels like it's half the weight. I'm sure part of that is because 9mm uses a heavier bullet.
I actually traded my G42 for an LCP 2 and my Ruger now gets a ton of pocket carry time at home. My G42 had some "perfection" issues but was a nice shooting gun and comfortable with the rubber Talon grips. With a 365 for daily carry...my 42 really didn't have a purpose.
@@troytruong8246 Yep. G42 hated hollow pointed ammo. It had numerous FTF, even after being sent back to Glock. The Ruger has eaten everything I have put in it without a hiccup. I guess Ruger should use the whole "perfection" motto since the Glock 42 couldn't live up to it. Thanks for playing!
I did same… G42 was fine but doubling the capacity with a 12 round mag in the Max is a no brainer. With a small caliber one may need more rounds to actually hit and then stop a threat, especially if you’re facing multiple threats.
This happened to me just yesterday. I bought two of the LCP Max pistols. I have been carrying one for a few months now and took it out to check it before heading out. When I took the mag out to inspect it I heard it rattling really bad and I noticed the top round sunken into the mag like it was depressed and ready for another round to be put in. I knew it had the 10 rounds in it already, so I slapped it against my palm to seat the rounds and three of them went flying out and hit the floor. Apparently the mag spring was depressed and stuck inside the mag and should I have needed my LCP for defense, I would have gotten off one round, the one in the chamber and I would have been shit outta luck for the second. Needless to say, back in the safe go both my LCP Max pistols and out comes my G42 or my Hellcat for carry until I can get some other mag fix for these two pistols. Sucks because I really like the LCP’s for all the obvious reasons but the mags seem to be a problem. I will take them out and run a few hundred rounds through them and see if the problem persist, but again, how do you try to evaluate mag springs compressing while carrying the weapon so much that when you remove the mag the lose rounds just fall out of it.
Just want to add, if someone's on the fence with buying either of these guns, the LCP Max functions much better as a pocket carry gun. The P365-380 was way too bulky for my pockets, the MAX fits like a glove. If you're going to holster I would just get the 9mm or a P938 and have the LCP Max for your pocket.
LCP is definitely a better pocket gun. Wish they didn't make the trigger so terrible though. Looking at the design it looks like they could have easily designed a better trigger, but they went out of their way to make it bad.
I want one so bad but hear so many bad things about it . Having to send it back to Ruger and so on...if a gun isn't reliable I could care less how convenient it is..
@user-vp2gz1mf5i Just get one and upgrade the trigger on it, I have a 9mm Sig and I carry the max everyday because it fits into any pocket and is practically weightless.
A comparison of apples and oranges. The P365 is a fine small 9mm . The 380 version doesn’t make much sense except for less recoil but also less power. The Ruger 380 Max is a significant advance in pocket pistols . It’s high capacity at such a low weight and size put it in its own category that no other pistol to date can be fairly compared to.
Another reviewer complained about the Max magazine flying apart when accidentally dropped to the ground. I had the same experience w/ a 12 rd mag. Need to glue on the baseplates!!
I owned both kept the sig sold the Ruger. Had issues with the ruger’s trigger when at range and shooting rapid groups. Kept creating blood blisters on my trigger finger. sig also was a smoother shooter, less recoil and much easier to stay on target when shooting follow up shots. Overall quality better on the sig as well
Yep I had the same issues , had to wrap a band aid on my finger !🤣 also none of the mags hold the slide open on last shot, just sending it back to Ruger as they told me it’s the gun not the mags! I’ll be carrying my p365 for a while
. great review. loved the insight and learned a lot. I have the LCP Max, LCP, glock 42, Kimber Raptor 380 and am considering the P365 380. Thanks for sharing :)
There is a flaw in the mag release of the Ruger II and Max. It is way too light. My wife was carrying in her purse in a holster. And the mag release was releasing in her purse. When I told her to make sure the mag is seated well. When I carried mine in a pocket holster, the mag release, released my mag. I even laid the pistol down release side down and it released again. Both Ruger's did the same thing. This is not good.
Both have had reliability issues. If I wanted a .380 it would be the proven Beretta 84 FS Cheetah (13-shot mag) or Beretta 85 FS Cheetah (8-shot mag) if the former was too big for my hand. Both soft shooting guns with a decent 3.8" barrel which helps ensure optimum bullet performance. Their double-action mechanism, external hammer, and safety catch mean the chances of an accidental discharge are greatly reduced.
I was carrying a shield 2.0 for years and then got the shield plus. I always wanted an LCP 2 and wanted something nice maybe FDE, once I even missed a sale at Academy on the LCP 2 and I was so disappointed. I bought the LCP Max a month after release date at 399 online, got me four 12 round mags and have shot 600 rounds now through it, so much fun. The key to accuracy is to pre set the hammer with trigger before breaking the shot/ wall. I have not had a malfunction with HP ammo, I have several boxes still to run but 6-7 different HP boxes later and this little polymer rattler eats it up flawlessly. Kudos to Ruger. I carry in shorts but still 80% appendix IWB.
My general thoughts for the LCP Max, while it'd be great against an unarmed opponent, you wouldn't want to be getting in a gun battle against someone who has a little more firepower.
I have had two situations in life that simply having a gun avoided anything further and I was thankful. That is not or will be the case for everyone, but there is always something stronger out there. You can carry a G17 with its 17 rounds and the other guy has an AR-15. Just carry what works for you.
I appreciate your evaluation of these two. I value your opinion it is always thorough. I believe from my interpretation of this video the Sig is superior.
I have the ruger lcp max as my first 380. It replaced my m&p 45 shield and cz 2075 rami. I pocket carry 95% of the time so the lcp max is blessing due to its much smaller footprint. My lcp max only came with one ten round magazine (I have purchased a extra 10 and 12 round magazine). Due to the sig being larger and heavier, I would expect it to shoot more accurate. PS: not a sig hater, own a x5 legion and a p226 legion.

P365-380 is like S&W EZ380. P365-380 is for weaker or smaller hands. S&W is making a killing with their Shield line, SIG sees it and wants some market share.
Good review and comparison. I have the 365x macro and I really like it. I would love to own the sig p365-380 but I think I could just shoot lighter loads in my 9mm. I am also going to get the xl grip module and turn mine into a spectre comp without the fancy gold coatings
I have the Ruger LCP MAX and it only comes with one 10 round magazine. I had to buy the 12 round magazine. As far as the mag release I have never accidently hit it and release the magazine but my release button is hard to push, it has to be intentional. In the Ruger owners manual it recommends not to carry with a round in the chamber. That kind of defeats the purpose of carrying it in an emergency. I actually like the sights on the Ruger and I find it to be amazingly accurate for its size.
I bought an LCP Max last week and it came with two magazines (10 & 12), plus a pinkie extension for the 10 round mag. Love the gun after I broke it in with a couple hundred rounds.
@@troxle1r so did mine but I paid for it. It was not with the gun and I didn't get a pinky extension for the 10 rnd mag. you must have gone to a better dealer than I did.
Mine only came with one 10 rd mag! But I bought last year not long after they came out and paid I think around $369 at cabellas. Bought the 12 round online shortly after.
LCP hands down. Trigger is outstanding for a pocket carry weapon. As for the sights, that’s personal. I prefer the blackout rear and tritium front. I seem to pickup the all important front sight much faster than picking up the 3 dot pattern. I also prefer supporting USA manufacturers.
@@robert50173 it’s one of those things that are personal. I prefer the blackout rear sight and the front seems to fall in quickly on target. I suggest going to a range that rents firearms and try with the three dot pattern and U notch. Everyone is different a truly it’s the best way to even find out what works best for you.
I like the Ruger LCP Max for summer carry. I have one, and I can carry it with anything I wear. It's hard to beat. Even no belt athletic shorts in a pocket holster or JM4 Tactical magnetic holster. They make one designed for no belt carry. Carries great in an ankle holster too. The trigger is my only minor complaint. It's an okay trigger, but I wish it were just a little better.
I carried the Glock 19 until I found the Sig P-365. I love the quality, grips, night sites, and size of the Sig. I still love my Glock as a second choice. My S&W Bodyguard is my summer gun. I'm hearing that the Glock 45 is the best of two worlds. I don't follow trends. My P-365 is 9mm. I didn't know that they came in .380. My comment still stands.
No, the LCP Max doesn't come with two mags. You get a 10 rd mag ONLY. Ruger has always done this with the LCP and they suck for it. You do get an extra pinky extension baseplate for the ONE 10 rd mag that comes with it, though.
I've had the P365 (9mm) for a while. Just got the LCP Max. Both loaded, the LCP Max is noticeably lighter and slightly smaller. I'm more likely to carry the LCP now, especially in non-permissive environments, but the P365 is great for what it is.
A clear review. I have the LCP Max for situations where a conventional holster is not feasible (e.g. track pants at the gym). Otherwise, my EDC is the M&P Shield Plus, which has a not dissimilar size to the P365.
I own both. I kept the LCP Max for my summertime carry. It's size vs capacity makes it a nice small pocket option. I find shooting it to be snappy, completely unenjoyable but hey - it gets the job done nicely. The P365 is a really nice, smooth shooting firearm. I'd rather pump 100 rounds downrange with the 365 v the LCP Max. Both have a place in my arsenal. If its fall or winter where I have a larger shirt and jeans, I'd choose the P365 over the LCP Max any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not getting into the .380 v 9MM debate. If I want big hitter I go Sig Legion 329 or 326.
@@shuumai That's exactly right. It's the same size as the 9mm (footprint) but the lighter round makes it a very stable platform. Almost no effort to stay on target for multiple shots in rapid succession.
The LCP Max now comes with one 10 round mag. It also comes with replacement base for mag that extends it like the 12 round. The 12 round is a smidge longer so will be my standard.
Bought the Max for my wife for purse carry, before SIG came out with their model. Would have purchased the SIG, the Ruger will get the job done, but the trigger isn’t that great.
@@paulcarlin5181 Bought a Max a few weeks ago. First trip to the range, the trigger seemed to pinch my finger no matter how I gripped the gun. I also had a couple of jams, which never happens with my Glock 42. Took the gun back to the shop to sell it on consignment. After reading on the internet that sometimes the gun just needs to be broken in, I decided to give it another chance. I didn't think I was actually changing anything, but my next trip to the range, no more finger pinch. I also ran 4 different brands of ammo with no jams (about 250 rounds). Evidently it needed some break-in time. I'm really glad I gave the gun another chance. It's fun and easy to shoot, easier to pocket carry than my 42, which is my favorite way to carry in the summer.
The LCP allows easy front pocket carry and 12 rd mag. Add the 10 rd spare in the other pocket and you have 22+1 in a very small package. Very hard to beat, literally half a box ammo at the ready.
I own both, use the same design holster and the Ruger is way more comfortable at the appendix position. Almost 1" shorter, 5 oz lighter. Its Ruger for me for carry. I keep the Sig for the range.
The LCP Max is in a class of its own. The 365-380 is 48% heavier, 12% longer and 23% wider than the Max, that is a big difference. The 365 9mm is only 1.9 oz heavier and virtually the same size as the 380 365. Why not just carry the 365 9mm? Recoil would be the only reason.
I wish the Ruger had retained the smaller size of the original LCP’s and LCP 2’s. It should have been an 8+1 gun with optional 10 and 12 round magazines. As it stands if’s basically the same size as a P365, which makes it a non-starter as a super discrete pocket gun for me. I’ll stick with my micro 9’s for IWB and original LCP’s for pocket carry.
Very good comparison. At this point in time - until S&W and others make their own 10-12 round 380 - these are probably the best two choices for most in 380. To most people I would council, if you can swing it, get the 365 in 9mm and the LCP Max as a deep concealment option. It's that much better than the LCP or LCP II that the very slight increase in size is worth it. For ladies or individuals who have difficulty with recoil, the 365 in 380 is likely the best choice out there, probably displacing the Glock 42 in that category.
@@felixconlon7049 That's too bad. I have a Bodyguard and I don't mind the trigger for what it is, though I think they should fix that to be as good as the aftermarket galloway replacement trigger. I care about that more than the capacity.
I have both guns. The Ruger Max had a few problems with it not feeding correctly but I sent it back and they replaced the springs ,barrel, and the extractor. Also if I have it a habit of shooting low. Both are Great Guns but if I had a choice the Sig 365 for me
The magazine release on my Ruger LCP Max takes a strong push to release the magazine; I am not going to drop the magazine accidentally. One problem I do have is that it will not always eject an unfired cartridge because the front of the cartridge sometimes does not clear the front of the ejection port. This is not a problem with shooting because the front of the cartridge has left the muzzle before it is time to eject the empty casing.
I enjoyed this video very much. I actually agree with most that was said and shown. I own the original P365 9mm, the P365 380 and I used to own the Ruger LCP Max. My LCP Max was an early version that was plagued with failure to feeds and failure to ejects even with standard FMJ round nose rounds along with the locking back issue. Like Hammer, I found the front sight to be a big improvement over the LCP ll 380 but I also had issues picking up the sight quickly, found the trigger to be just like the LCP ll 380 and noticed the recoil impulse was still strong but spread out more throughout my strong hand compared to the LCP ll 380. For reasons I cannot explain, I shot the LCP ll 380 far easier and more accurately than the LCP Max which is weird. It was also far more dependable than the LCP Max as far as function. To say that I regretted buying the LCP Max and selling my LCP ll 380 would be an understatement. I have also always had issues shooting the original 9mm P365 and have really had to work hard at the range. That gun always felt unbalanced in my hands and was hard to control. I ended up putting on the XL grip module and the extra length created by the longer XL beaver tail turned the original P365 into a much easier and more pleasant gun to shoot. The new P365 380 like Hammer said, has the recoil of a 22 lr or 32 ACP. The 3 ounce less weight compared to the 9mm P365 solved the unbalanced feeling I always had since that weight was removed from the slide/barrel area. The P365 380 is super easy to get on target and extremely pleasant to shoot even with the flush fit mag. I have the manual thumb safety version since I am used to the same on my P365X. I pocket and IWB carry it almost daily. I have had no issues with my P365 380 using any type of 380 ammo. I know that if I had to use either the LCP Max or the P365 380 for self defense, I would be much more likely to be on target with the P365 380 given half the chance for a good shot. I also would trust it to function over the LCP Max 380 that I originally owned. The extra 6 ounces and .5" barrel length compared to the LCP Max matter less to me than having a comfortable/repeatable grip, being confident with shot placement and knowing it will fire.
What kind of clothes do you pocket carry the P365-380 in? I'm considering it for pocket carry in gym shorts/sweatpants but am concerned about the weight
It might hang too low for your liking. I pocket carry a GX4 and in anything other than denim it slaps against me. The GX 4 according to handgun hero is about 3 ounces heavier than the P365-380. I did place the P365-380 in my jeans pocket at Academy and it felt much lighter, but still might sag low in gym shorts/sweatpants. @@Jay_CW
The lcp max needs a 13lb outter recoil spring & trigger upgrade and then you will love it. Keep your ammo under 92 grains and with spring & trigger replacement you can do a full mag dump with 3-5 inch groups. (Thank me later)
Great comparison. I have the Ruger max and it only came with one mag . Had to buy the larger one. And my mags lock open sometimes . I'll be contacting Ruger as mine was one of the first ones. I just love it and it's always in ft pocket. Haven't had the mag drop. I bought the Bodyguard first but hit the mag every time I pulled the trigger. Long fingers?

Great Job…!!!!!
I have a regular P365 in 9mm and the LCP Max, I find myself mainly carrying the LCP Max, it’s really just the size and weight, it’s easier and more comfortable. I usually carry appendix or pocket carry. Great review, keep it up.
I totally agree, my lcp max is my primary carry.
I have both guns too, the lcp max is way more rounded and you can’t tell it’s a gun in my pocket. The p365 is way too big to pocket carry.
Pocket carrying in dress pants is exactly why I bought my LCP Max; and I'm happy I did.
Clean all firearms before the first shots. Cutting metal always leaves bits behind.
My brand new LCP max fails to return to battery. I oiled it and cleaned it to kingdom come and it still jams. I’m so mad I want my money back.
@@posterlion OK. I’ll try that. I am *this* close to selling it and getting a sig p365 or G42 if it doesn’t work out.
I hope.
I totally agree with you. Great point.
Very good point….
It's possible you might perform better in a high stress situation if you have trained thoroughly and your "will" to defeat the threat is high...but this is just a theory from a guy who only shoots occasionaly.
I train point and shoot just for that reason.
Thanks for a very thorough review. I'm really a fan of the LCP Max due to it's size and weight. It's very comfortable to carry all day. Five extra ounces makes a difference after 8 or 10 hours.
Great comparison, thanks 👍
When the Max came out, I thought about upgrading & almost did but after consideration, I decided it'd be a best to stick with my original (gen 2) LCP1.
Very detailed & informative, appreciate it 👍
TheReindeer....thanks for the story. I think your logic is sound.
Thanks for the great video and excellent review. I was hoping to come across this comparison between the LCP MAX and the SIG P365 .380 because this is exactly what I'm considering.
Thanks!
The local gun shop really tried to sell me on the sig being the better option and almost convinced me. But I still went with the lcp max just on size only. I'm totally satisfied with my choice.
Id imagine you saved 100 bucks too

And it’s a true pocket gun, most people think it’s just my cell phone in my pocket. I’ve got other micro guns but the Max is the only one I feel comfortable carrying in my pocket, I just need to practice a bit more than I normally would.
They totally were trying just to get the extra money from you
The P365 is Way heavier and bigger not a great pocket option
@@whatsup24_7 I tested both in my LCP Max. Good choices for sure.
@@whatsup24_7 I believe Underwood Extreme Defender is a 380+P bullet. Ruger's manual states not to shoot +P ammo out of an LCP Max

Thanks for a well done, easy to follow review. I chose the LCP Max because the only reason I carry a 380 is for the small size and light weight in a pocket. If I carry something on my belt, I personally don't see a reason why it shouldn't be at least a 9mm. YMMV.
Thank you.
My daily carry is the LCP MAX. It weighs a total of 17oz with a vedder IWB kydex holster, hogue grip and 10+1 rounds.
Great points!👍
Yea sig could have done a better job at making it smaller.
I think Sig thought it was competing against the S&W 380 EZ, and the 365 does a great job of that....but then Ruger dropped the LCP max on the world's head, and boom.
"It was at that moment that sig realized, it fked up."
It's a shame to be reminded how the pocket .380s and subcompact 9mms became such dogmatic standards that how soft and pleasant a subcompact .380 is to shoot isn't appreciated
Saying the .380 P365 should've just been yet another pocket pistol is just missing out on the sweet spot these sized guns are for the cartridge
@@ScreechingPossum My friend, a Ruger LCP max is an EXTREMELY pleasant gun to shoot with standard pressure ammunition.
You can buy aftermarket triggers and trigger springs
Thanks for sharing your reviews and keep them coming please.
Thanks for the rundown and magguts info

A little surprised it took so long for a 10 round pocket 380, years after the 365 magazine capacity magic was introduced. My job and lifestyle require me to still carry very small a lot of the time, so of course the LCP MAX appealed to me. I was concerned with the intermittent slide locking back after the last round, but it holds open every time during live fire. The only thing I want too crazy about was the trigger, since it’s similar to the LCP2. Added the Galloway Precision trigger and a Talon Grip, best $50 you can spend on the MAX! Trust me.
What's wrong with the factory trigger? It's very easy to shoot fast, and it has a nice margin of safety because of the length of pull.

An unloaded 365xl is a quarter pound heavier than an LCP max with 13rds in it. They're just not in the same class.

The Glock 42 is incredibly reliable.
One of the best gun reviews I’ve ever seen.
Why do you carry unchambered?
Love the melted design of the LCP Max.
I just got a 365/380 and I absolutely love this gun. PS I sold my Ruger lcp max first! it was all that you said it was.
The 365 in 380 over the LCP max
They didn’t innovate the size or weight of the 365 when converting it to 380
The P365-380 is fun to shoot. The LCP Max isn’t.

I could carry same system in differing chambering according to personal preference. Max will always be a deep carry or backup. Great video!
There is a 380 caliber exchange kit for it. Hard to find though.
Excellent and helpful video. Have the LCP Max and suits my needs best. Will have to take a look at the Sig. Thanks!
depending on what I'm wearing I carry a LCP Max (warmer weather) and a 365 9mm (cooler weather) and the weight is what really makes the difference for me. The LCP just feels like it's half the weight. I'm sure part of that is because 9mm uses a heavier bullet.
I'll probably get a Max. Currently, I pocket carry a G42, and it shoots very well.

Maybe he wanted a pocket pistol? Maybe his garage will hold the Civic more easily than the Accord..
I’ll be carrying my p365 for a while
@@Bobsbargainbasement Galloway Precision had an aftermarket trigger that's supposed to solve that problem.
Excellent comparison review. Thank you
. great review. loved the insight and learned a lot. I have the LCP Max, LCP, glock 42, Kimber Raptor 380 and am considering the P365 380. Thanks for sharing :)
Good comparison and practical tips 👍
Got them both, both are great
Nice review. I carry the P365, with the LCP Max as my pocket backup.
Thank you.
I had the same problem.
I remedied it by sewing a paper clip into the Ruger holster that surrounds the mag release. It armours it and I haven't a problem since.
@@Yukontom That's ridiculous to have to do that to make the gun function normal
It is to make the pocket holster better.
Good point….
You’re not going to sell us on your oversize pistols
I’ve had the same great experience with my LCP Max.
Great job by Ruger!!!
Should have went with a SCCY CPX 3! Comes with 3 10 round mags! Lifetime guarantee, comfortable to shoot and carry/ Under 200.00 my friend!

P365-380 is like S&W EZ380. P365-380 is for weaker or smaller hands. S&W is making a killing with their Shield line, SIG sees it and wants some market share.
Great video. I love the side by side comparison videos.
My Max only came with the 10 round mag. Had to buy the 12 round extra.
You can thank the Blue states for that.
Good review and comparison. I have the 365x macro and I really like it. I would love to own the sig p365-380 but I think I could just shoot lighter loads in my 9mm. I am also going to get the xl grip module and turn mine into a spectre comp without the fancy gold coatings
Thanks for the update
paid 349 for my lcp max. And living in West virginia we no longer pay tax on guns and ammo.so it was 349 out the door
Thank you for making this video
I am new to this. Would a couple of white paint dots on the rear sight (LCP) help for quickness?

Try out the Galloway Precison trigger. Less travel, clean break and no trigger bite. Fairly reasonable as well
I carried the Glock 19 until I found the Sig P-365.
10 and 12 came in my box
I've had the P365 (9mm) for a while. Just got the LCP Max. Both loaded, the LCP Max is noticeably lighter and slightly smaller. I'm more likely to carry the LCP now, especially in non-permissive environments, but the P365 is great for what it is.
Thanks for the useful information! Shopping for a pistol for my wife; Sig 365 is probably the best choice.
Is you P365 9mm?
@@shuumai No - I have the P365 in .380 (new model for Sig). Sorry, I should have been more clear.
@@adamcoffey4976 the P365 in .380 sounds pretty good. A nice power to weight ratio on paper.
@@shuumai That's exactly right. It's the same size as the 9mm (footprint) but the lighter round makes it a very stable platform. Almost no effort to stay on target for multiple shots in rapid succession.
Nice video- I appreciated your comparisons...
Great comparison.
The LCP Max now comes with one 10 round mag. It also comes with replacement base for mag that extends it like the 12 round. The 12 round is a smidge longer so will be my standard.
I put xs big dot on my LCP max. Highly recommend.
Thank you so much for another great review.
Good video, It's making me want that SIG p365-.380.
I couldn't decide which one to get so I got both 👍
Enjoyed video much coz I’m trying to choose between these two 380’s. Thanks for your input..
Bought the Max for my wife for purse carry, before SIG came out with their model. Would have purchased the SIG, the Ruger will get the job done, but the trigger isn’t that great.
I have read and see reviews that the trigger pinches the finger and makes long range sessions not enjoyable. Is this your experience?
@@paulcarlin5181 have not shot it that much, I just don't like the cheap sound it makes, like a toy gun.
A Galloway Precision trigger is well worth the money. Less travel, clean break and gets rid of the trigger bite.
Have both - and used mainly as class guns. We have yet to find a student that says “I really like the LCP” when they shoot them side-by-side.
I really like the LCP.
I really, really like the LCP.
It's not that hard to shoot.
That's not really the point of the gun is it

The LCP allows easy front pocket carry and 12 rd mag. Add the 10 rd spare in the other pocket and you have 22+1 in a very small package. Very hard to beat, literally half a box ammo at the ready.
I Carry a 12 round clip in mine and carry two more 12 round clips
@@wread1982 I would say you are covered. LOL
I own both, use the same design holster and the Ruger is way more comfortable at the appendix position. Almost 1" shorter, 5 oz lighter. Its Ruger for me for carry. I keep the Sig for the range.
How many rounds did you put on the Ruger to establish reliability?
@@paulcarlin5181 Full magazine capacity of 10 rounds
When I heard Sig was making a .380, I was pretty excited to maybe have a Sig, that would fit in my pocket like my Max. Too bad about the Sig's, size.
They also did not innovate on weight either so you still have a very heavy gun
Define very heavy to you?@@atleastimtrying5391
The LCP Max is in a class of its own. The 365-380 is 48% heavier, 12% longer and 23% wider than the Max, that is a big difference. The 365 9mm is only 1.9 oz heavier and virtually the same size as the 380 365. Why not just carry the 365 9mm? Recoil would be the only reason.
And cheaper ammo
Great information!!
Good comparison. Thanks.
I contacted S&W a few months ago. They told me that there are no plans to upgrade the Bodyguard.
@@felixconlon7049 That's too bad. I have a Bodyguard and I don't mind the trigger for what it is, though I think they should fix that to be as good as the aftermarket galloway replacement trigger. I care about that more than the capacity.
@@felixconlon7049 that sucks lol was hoping they would do a bodyguard plus
Talon grips on the lcpmax is a great upgrade, covers up those slick spots for enhanced grip.
@@Jay_CW
