Narayanastra - Vishnu's Divine Weapon
Narayanasatra is a weapon of Lord Vishnu in his form of Narayana. The Narayanasatra when summoned fired millions of deadly missiles simultaneously. The Narayanasatra can not target over a single person, instead it destroys anything and everything that comes in front of it. It is said that the intensity and destructions caused by this Astra only increases if it is met resistance of any kind. Therefore, trying to counter the weapon only causes it to aggravate and cause more destruction than it normally would. Therefore, it is often referred to as one of the six ‘Mantramukta’ that cannot be resisted. The only way to defend this Astra is to show complete submission to the Astra. Before the Astra targets a being in front of it, a complete surrender and submission towards the Astra with devotion is the only thing that can calm and eventually nullify the effect of the Astra. Nothing else can stop the astra from causing destruction or spare its target. It is also said that it could be used only once in a war; if one tried to use it twice, it would devour the user's own army.
There is only one story of the use of Narayanasatra in the Hindu scriptures.
On hearing how his father died, an enraged Ashwatthama unleased the powerful Narayanastra. The earth shook, the sky seemed to catch fire and a malefic star hung over the Pandava army as an inferno. Thousands of flames and missiles flash down from the Astra. A hundred thousand arrows whistle down from that Ayudha every moment, reaping as many lives.
Krishna on the other hands screams and roars, informing the Pandava army that the narayanastra grows fiercer when it is resisted. He demanded everyone to Lay down their weapons and prostrate themselves before Vishnu’s Astra. Worship the Astra and it will grow mild. Krishna’s word flashes across Kurukshetra. In moments, every Pandava soldier has flung his weapons down and lies flat on his face before the apocalypse in the sky. At once, the astra grows quiet, it dims itself at being worshipped.

There is just a bit of correction I want to add, everything is correct except the Narayanastra did not vanish but when everyone surrendered Krishna stood in front of the Astra and it came to him and became a garland in his neck, as he was Narayan the Astra being his own had no affect on him..... It was Vaishnastra which is different than Narayanastra of lord Vishnu.
Lord Krishna is 8th avatar of lord Vishnu so only he knows it including

2. Ashwathama only

What you are saying never happened, the Narayan astra was a highly advanced weapon capable of reading human emotions/brain waves and it used to act accordingly,
The more you resisted the more it became furious and as soon as you mentally surrender, means you change your inner emotions from that of a warrior desperate for war to a saint doing the Jap of Narayan or any other God the weapon will calm down and disappear because it's not a physical entity, it's energy,
The missiles and arrow that people usually talk about coming from this weapons are actually laser beams/ high bursts of energy.
In the original mahabharat it's not mentioned that the weapon turned into a Garland of flowers and went to shree krishna, it's just a made up term by the devotees.
Matter can't be created out of thin air, the Narayan astra itself wasn't made of matter, it was made of the energy of the universe.

All Divine weapons can not be used against Dharma. They r there to protect nd restore Dharma that's why in Ramayana war Narayan Astra, Brahmastra nd Pashupati astra used by Meghnadh on Laxman were harmless . Yes , Narayan astra was used in Ramayana war too. so plz correct ur information, it was used two times in Itihasa/ history ( as far as I remember) not once.
weapons used by Meghnaad on Laskshman were harmless on him because he is an incarnation of Ananta Shesha, not because he is following dharma

Dont resist the astra of Narayan. When Narayan hurls his astra, he is really mad about something. Narayan loses his cool rarely. But when he does, He hurls the astra to set the whole system right, and since enemy is the imbalancing factor in system, either the enemy surrenders (= sets itself right) or is summarily destroyed. Such a weapon is not present in modern warfare, a weapon that can draw down its fangs depending surrender of adversary.
Pasupatastra of Lord Shiva is equally destructive. But it can only be used on enemy of really high calibre, else it boomerangs. And since the Pasupatastra's owner can't be an ordinary person, rather an extraordinary being; this astra usage gets triggered in the duel of two outstanding champions - most likely. When one outstanding champion is fallen/dead, his entire army capitulates/surrenders. Such a weapon is also not present in modern warfare that can boomerang when used unwisely on a lesser foe.

The North Indians do not pronounce the A. In Sanskrit the default is A at the end. In order not to pronounce the A suffix called ‘Halantha’ is Used. For example Drona = द्रोण Dron = द्रोण्
When lord Narayan was on battle field he said to pandavas "don't panic just surrender to this Astra and accept power of lord Narayan pandavas does that and this Astra nullified. Kauravas screamed to Ashwathama that you said it will end pandavas army in a few minutes so how it became neutralize Ashwathama said when lord Narayan himself is protecting pandavas no weapon or Astra is there which can defeat them
Mahabharat Only story is a mistake for narayan astra usage.. Narayan astra was also used in The ramayan by indrajeet againt Laxmana.

not sure why such weapons were ever created? you cannot force your dharma onto someone else by the might of weapons!

Dharma simply implies righteousness. It is not really something you can force on someone as it has to come from within. Dharma simply refers to following your duties that come with a role in your society with honor and modesty.
Wars like this do not erupt overnight. There may have been several peaceful interventions prior encouraging people to follow their Dharma which have been rejected.
Also, just to be clear, its not only the kauravas that didnt abide by their Dharma. Several Pandavas and even gods like Sri Narayan himself have not abided by dharma in certain instances which have resulted in devastating consequences. An example of this is when Narayan, the subject of Vrinda's devotion, pretended to be Vrinda's hudband Jalandhar as an attempt to kill him. Although this was ultimately in order to kill Jalandhar who had breached his Dharma time and time again, Sri Narayan still broke his dharma of the relationship between a devotee and a god. He was hence cursed by Vrinda to constantly be seperated from his wife and not have a marital life.
My point is dharma cannot be forced on someone. However, if dharma is breached, the consequences of that action will occur in some form or another. Hope this makes sense.

if a child is born to a dharmic family vs a family where discussions of dharma never takes place, there are higher chances he/she will not learn about dharma, unless there is fate/divine intervention
