if like to ad the fact that if a players weapon greatly favors head to head combat having a hunter is better cause the enemy only has 3 targets instead of 4 making it to where you are more likely to get targeted for a head to head.
Maybe it’s just confirmation bias but it seems to me like Kayna actually goes above and beyond the others in healing item usage. Rarely ever attacks, choosing instead to defend or heal. Reverto is by far my favorite. Thanks to him I will give Greatsword another try when I play a main series Monster Hunter game the next time. To bad we can't cut a Monster in half in a single blow.
First time with Reverto in the team: What a beast, I hope later in the game can switch to him again Endgame: MY BOY IS BACK WITH A NEW TOY, TIME TO DESTROY SOME ELDERS
Reverto is just overpowered. In the Elder Lair there is a floor where you have to defeat monsters in a number of turns using only their weakness. That rule didnt apply to reverto so he murdered 2 of the monsters alone because i didnt have their weak element with me :P
makes sense reverto does more damage then every other party member. He is an adult hunter in his prime who uses the great sword a weapon known lore wise to be a power house. Every other party member is like you a child or very young adult. chavel him self is a rider so unlikely he as physically strong as a veteran hunter same for your character. Being a rider generally means you rely on monsties to provide the muscle and your mostly support. Plus have you seen his hair? clearly he is a super saian so... yeah makes sense.
Honestly I'd say dont use anyone else other Avinia or reverto. The reason for avinia is that her songs and heals she plays are so good because u never have to stop dealing damage plus she can play kinship up which boosts the speed of ur kinship gauge fills. This is good for two reasons one u get to use ur skills and ur monsties skills more often and two u get to skip turns more often because u and avinia both get ur "ultimates" faster which is op. For reverto well cotton sums it up perfectly he does big damage so if u want pure damage go with him and use ur own heals and kinship up song. It's really up to whether u want to be support or avinia to be support
Yeah, only reason to have a HH yourself while having her is bringing the Awakening song. (Because it really is an insane buff and it lasts a good bit too, but I know the Absolute Evasion Song and Bonds of Kinship are insane songs as well. The Absolute Evasion is insane just because besides some attacks that can't miss you could literally just ignore a OHKO move with a properly timed use of this song)
I was using Kayna for a while. Made the switch to Reverto cause I saw alot of videos where people used almost exclusively him. Plus he's awesome so I was excited to use him. Needless to say I haven't looked back
I use Reverto because he was my boi in Stories 1. I'll never forget when he made us look for mushrooms and then said the iconic "Where there's a mushroom, there's a monster. That's what they say."
Don't like the bow and don't like buddies that use bows. That being said, I usually bring Reverto or Avinia with me. Both are very good depending on what you want from your buddy
In my playtime of stories 2ive noticed that alwin will charge his bow 95-100% of the time and act on the following turn, no matter the situation. Although characters being on super low health and needing healing seems to be an exception
Kayna is actually pretty good. To be honest, I did not expect much from having Kayna as a battle buddy after finishing the story. That was until I reluctantly picked her to fight the final boss in the Special Elder's Lair with after multiple failed attempts to beat him with all other battle buddies. Surprisingly, I was actually able to defeat him with her. I think I might add that she also heals you a lot which is pretty useful if you want to reserve your healing items.
I've found that Kayna seems to use healing items alot more then the others. At least untill I started really out leveling fights in endgame I would take her since I was more likely to survive. However once both my level and armour started getting good her lack of damage just hurt so I swapped out to Reverto. Shes still a damn site better than Alwin though, since he cost me so many fights when I used him because of charging. At least Kyle can tank hits while charging. I find less use for Avinia since i use a HH myself, and she seems to prefer using healing songs over dust of life. And for Cheval, I just don't like him so I don't use him.
Additionally the hunters you could wager are good because of HtH. With a rider buddy you only have a 1/4 chance of being targeted (2/4 if you want to include your own monstie being involved) while with a hunter it's a 1/3 (again 2/3 including your own monstie) to be targeted with HtH. However this could also work both ways as now, you're more likely to be targeted now. So you could argue if you want full power go hunter. If you want to maybe play on the safe side maybe go for a rider. Although again as cotton said, with a rider if an AOE attack goes out a hunter can only lose one heart. A rider can lose two
I think the reason why is that, the ai doesn't know how to properly utilize gunlance or hammer charges. I had a coop buddy ai on one of the tickets that had gunlance, and he just kept on spamming shelling and not waiting for the stronger stuff.
@@dime7267 That makes no sense, because Reverto uses the Greatsword meter just fine. Sometimes he shotguns it, sometimes holds onto it for a bit, but it seems to be functional at least. This just sounds like the AI is programmed to always use the shelling attacks whenever it is available, so it will never wait to build up beyond the first skill and they can't use the stronger skills as a result. Did they ever use wyvern fire? It seems like rider AI defaults to shitting out the kinship skill as soon as the gauge is full, so they probably wouldn't use that either.
@@FakeHeroFang Yeah I can see your point. Hammer I'm not so sure, maybe the ai had problems choosing which level 3 charge attack would be best for a situation? There also is the case that you need to win head to heads for charges, so the ai choosing which ever attack they want would make the process to lvl 3 potentially awful. Also wyvern fire is probably exactly why they had ai shell spam, since they would probably ditch kinship for wyvern at the most inopportune moment.
Could just be my luck, but Kyle seems to be much smarter in his bow usage than Alwin. He seems to recognize more often than not that he's getting HtH'd and attacks without a charge. Alwin almost made me lose a few fights because of his addiction to Charging in the story, enough that I won't ever take him with me because of it. (That and I think most of the monsters in the region you were forced to take him with you had very few monsters that were weak to piercing) Also the Hunter battle buddies are the perfect compliment to the Hammer. No matter who the monsters target, you'll always be able to do HtH or Double Attacks (if the AI chooses correctly of course).
I love the channel, but it sucks to see people making a list for this (although I agree that Kayna is on the bottom of the list). It also sucks to see that Kyle isn't number 1 on the list seeing as he uses ancient potions and does about 1-2 thousand damage every other turn. Also, spoilers: I beat fatalis with him and only lost 1 heart, which he immediately healed with an ancient potion.
I remember on Switch I brought Kyle with me almost all the time in endgame, and yeah he definitely does have moments when he just gets slapped because of Charge turn, but unlike Alwin he has the stats to at least hold up during Charging turns and then he also has Rapid Shot unlike Alwin and that's my favorite part of him. It may take time to charge but damn does Rapid Shot hurt that single target, especially if he happens to be HtH-ing with the monster's weakness.
•Kena will heal you as much as possible, she's very useful especially against molten tigrex and cancel his double moves with her kinship regularly •Reverto is the best for Fatalis because he can survive most hits and deals heavy damage

Me, throws paintball. Reverto used Hunter Art, cleaving monster in two. Monster, unsurprisingly, doesn't retreat. Me: Reverto, what have I said about literally murdering them?!
I didn't play Stories 1 so I have no attachment to the returning characters, but Avinia is the best, her and Reverto. I have grown a large disdain towards the riders due to their lackluster move choices. Cheval has made me fail a large amount of times as he can't seem to figure out that the monster spamming Tech attacks is weak to power, not speed.
It's a design flaw in their monstie choice, all of them are speed types apparently so there's not much you can do about that. The Hunter partners make bad choices sometimes as well though, but having one extra target instead of two usually makes that a lot easier to tolerate.
. . .Look it's not my fault that I use Kayna, blame CAPCOM. On a real note of your going into tough battles post game I use reverto because he's strong asf, he's a single dude so his hearts won't give out as much as others with monsters, and you can just support him if he's dying.

Personally I like Cheval but Reverto ye his damage is nuts
That's what they say."
or the cutscene with the fireplace and 102% in sync
Don't like the bow and don't like buddies that use bows. That being said, I usually bring Reverto or Avinia with me. Both are very good depending on what you want from your buddy
Reverto keeps killing things I want to retreat (which, I know it’s technically his job to slay monsters, but STILL)
When I first saw revertos damage and health in lulucion he legit carried me through every desert quest
The combo of Reverto and my Nergigante teaming with their Kinship-Attacks is just so damn strong....5000 damage min atm is to be expected xD
Reverto reverting enemy health bars to 0 over here.
By the time you get him in the story he actually hits 1000 damage
@@DonPetexX *6000
I think the top three Buddies are definitely Reverto, Avinia and Cheval (the horse), proving that the MH1 crew are the best.
yessir
In my playtime of stories 2ive noticed that alwin will charge his bow 95-100% of the time and act on the following turn, no matter the situation. Although characters being on super low health and needing healing seems to be an exception
Having Cheval translated in "Ren" in the French version of the game is really a welcome change
I love how the gs representation Reverto casually out dps elder dragon kinship abilities
not only do i like reverto because of mh stories 1 but simply like you said he is also my main buddy for hunting
I'd probably rotate between Reverto, Avinia and Cheval depending on the situations
I feel called out about the Avinia part
Kayna is actually pretty good. To be honest, I did not expect much from having Kayna as a battle buddy after finishing the story.
That was until I reluctantly picked her to fight the final boss in the Special Elder's Lair with after multiple failed attempts to beat him with all other battle buddies. Surprisingly, I was actually able to defeat him with her.
I think I might add that she also heals you a lot which is pretty useful if you want to reserve your healing items.
Of course Reverto is the best, anything else would be blasphemy to the time god
Kayna chucks healing items nonstop, so that's nice. I swap between her and Reverto depending on what I'm doing.
If you kick ena out of your party you're more of a monster than what you're fighting
Totally agree. Ena best girl!
oops
I already knew the answer I just wanted to hear reverto being op
I like using Avinia. I can do the damage myself. She keeps us alive. And she's cute
I like watching her swing that rediculous HH around.
The day you can out dps reverto is the day you become god
4:06 You don't need to call me out like this man
It's hard for me to pick who I like. They are all cool!
A rider can lose two
Would be appropriate at this point to ask why they put in 2 SnS and 2 Bow Buddies but neither a Hammer or Gunlance one??
LMAO I was thinking the same thing
I think the reason why is that, the ai doesn't know how to properly utilize gunlance or hammer charges. I had a coop buddy ai on one of the tickets that had gunlance, and he just kept on spamming shelling and not waiting for the stronger stuff.
@@dime7267 interesting good point
(That and I think most of the monsters in the region you were forced to take him with you had very few monsters that were weak to piercing)
Also the Hunter battle buddies are the perfect compliment to the Hammer. No matter who the monsters target, you'll always be able to do HtH or Double Attacks (if the AI chooses correctly of course).
Being French and not laughing is hard when a character is called "Cheval" (although he's called "Ren" In the french version)
Je comprends ta souffrance
I love the channel, but it sucks to see people making a list for this (although I agree that Kayna is on the bottom of the list). It also sucks to see that Kyle isn't number 1 on the list seeing as he uses ancient potions and does about 1-2 thousand damage every other turn. Also, spoilers:
I beat fatalis with him and only lost 1 heart, which he immediately healed with an ancient potion.
reverto is best buddy
@@marcusgo1160 there is no objective best buddy. They all have their own pros and cons.
Did you know that roar type monstie skill count as sonic bombs to bring monsters out of the ground?
I care not what anyone says Kyle is a god of war and battle
I really wish ally NPCs were alot more play tested for competency.
•Kena will heal you as much as possible, she's very useful especially against molten tigrex and cancel his double moves with her kinship regularly
•Reverto is the best for Fatalis because he can survive most hits and deals heavy damage
I'm gonna go with kayna whenever I buy stories 2 on pc. Because she looks adorable.
I am going with Roberto I just got him as my battle buddy and his damage is crazy good.
I've seen that man use his "kinship" skill (the lvl3) on a downed opponent his the man
How am I hearing just now that there is another Monter Hunter game? Just how long ago did this game release exactly?
Okay. Thanks
Its a spinoff game and a turn based rpg rather than real time combat. The demo on the e-shop covers a good portion of the beginning of the game if you feel like trying it first!
Kayna: Beginner/trainer partner
Alwin: Trash (Bow with strong Legiana)
Avinia: Support/Healing partner
Reverto: Pure DAMAGE partner
Kyle: Better Alwin but still trash
Cheval: Healing (items) /CC Rathian partner
Kayna because waifu, not to mention I can't be angry at her for Avmar considering I kept Kulugunda (my starting Kulu) for entire game...
I mean, sure, I could optimize but if I ever played MH to optimize builds etc. I wouldn't be playing SnS and GL...
Apparently monsters have different retreat rates i.e. subquest jho and stygian have a 0% retreat rate and zamtrios is at 5%
A video on this would be helpful for gene hunting
It’s funny how my hours on stories 2 is triple rise
Rise is a pretty sucky game in comparison, ngl
I’m don’t mind rise it’s a good flashback to the old games but world was so good other than zorah world was perfect
I got like 300 hours in rise so stories 2 still has to catch up to that lol (currently 60 hours in)
@@Bomberthegreat same here for stories I only played rise for about 20 when I realised that some of the quests are just stupid with all the weird hit boxes and when you end up grinding for hunter ranks I had enough and stopped
Me, throws paintball.
Reverto used Hunter Art, cleaving monster in two.
Monster, unsurprisingly, doesn't retreat.
Me: Reverto, what have I said about literally murdering them?!
I'm simple man, just want Kayna be by my side.
Cheval for me as I think he is the only buddy to consistently heal and do good damage, but yea I could see why people prefer reverto
. . .Look it's not my fault that I use Kayna, blame CAPCOM. On a real note of your going into tough battles post game I use reverto because he's strong asf, he's a single dude so his hearts won't give out as much as others with monsters, and you can just support him if he's dying.
The biggest thing this video taught me is that you can kick out Ena in the post game w
Man these characters are so cool.
How do you get Revertos charged great sword skills? I only have true wide slash and it's really not great
Many weapon skills are locked behind subquests. Some of the best imo.
@@Abyssal86 yeah feel like I've done them all otherwise for SnS/Hunting horn etc. Can't seem to find anything more for Great Sword though
@@seahawk1579 Wish I could be more helpful, but I use S&S. My build is very status heavy.
As someone who plays with sound on, Kyle can go boot emself after the comments he gave when healing him in the story battles
Alwin, on the other hand, the lack of damage is worth his voice lines and kind attitude. Not to mention he makes a pleasant pixel on the screen to look at ngl
Reverto is the best buddy not because of his damage or his taunt, but because he’s just the best character from stories one, and probably stories 2, although I haven’t gotten to high rank yet
