very thoroughly researched and well presented. this kinda thing scratches my brain so hard, having my formative megatens be 4/4a/sj made seeing stuff like thor as titan or ananta as orochi or all the divines so weird but fascinating, and the rabbit hole of art/asset reuse can even exist across the past 3 decades of the series as potential/possibly unintentional comparative mythology really is part of what makes megaten so special as a video game drawing from culture and theology
super interesting! i really like when RPG devs get clever with palette swapping/reusing rigs. of course, something like just changing the color and associated element is pretty lame, but the limitations can make for some creative solutions while still saving resources
Small note on Coatlique - her palleteswap history technically goes even further back, as she was an Echidna palleteswap in Megami Tensei II before her SMT1 appearance. I would assume because of them both being associated with serpents and being viewed as "mother deities" in megaten's context. As for the Furies being split into three separate entities - they are in persona 1, alongside the harpy sisters and, I think, an extra harpy edit (Siren I think?). Giten Megami Tensei bloats the harpy recolors even further, as the Moirae are harpy recolors in that game as well (and part of the raptor race for some reason)
20:47 More than likely, they went with Erthys because he was the easiest to model. The rest required effects that they didn't quite have down yet, clearly shown with Tezcatlipoca. From a dev standpoint, that would be an easy compromise.
Unrelated (I am halfway through the video) but does anyone know why Virtue’s Devil Summoner design hasn’t reappeared in a modern Megaten game besides Persona 3 Reload?? Why do they cut out one of the nine orders of angels in most 3D games?

Of course you used the Demon Haunt theme for the Unicorn segment, since its return is the most significant addition in Vengeance
Return?

I love your videos on SMT NINE. They're always fun and informative to watch.
(Also I really liked your choice of music throughout. Very fitting).
Very well made and researched!
A designer: So... how many bird demons you want? We only have a few models...
NINE's director: *YES. ALL OF THEM. AT ONCE.*
Damn

I assume it's just because they didn't have a modern 3d model. It probably will show up much more often now.
