    In this video, Ron from Titan takes us around a modified T-51D Mustang with the new Short Speed Wings
    The Titan T-51 Mustang is a 75% scale replica of the original P-51 Mustang, an iconic airplane in American history.
    The T-51 mustang will fly up to 215 mph and you have a low stall speed of about 50 mph. Being an experimental airplane means you have several different options for your engine, from a small rotax 100 hp engine to a much bigger GM auto conversion engine.
    The Kit price for the T-51 Mustang starts at $65,000. And for a little over $100,000 you can have a complete flying airplane.
    Here are some more stats of the T-51
    Engine: 100HP - 300HP
    Useful load: 470 LBS
    Speed: 150 - 200 MPH
    Range: 720 MILES
    Kit Price: $65,000

    Wow. So want one of these. Great vid, Mike. Keep up the good work. Btw, were you tempted to go with one of these when selecting your TSI? An airplane should be chosen based on the mission. So, what, then, is the mission? It's so subjective. Is it to cruise x-country with a low fuel burn? Or is it to go Mach 2 with your hair on fire?

    Hello Mike, love your videos! I am interested in building kits such as these all the way to completion. Could you do a video on this subject and outline the viability of building kits such as the T-51, and selling it for a profit, or any other kits? Maybe outline which kits would bring the greatest return for investment?

    • @TomSmith-kc8mz

      How much do you think it would go for completed and ready to fly? It takes about 1,600 hrs to build so at 50/hr you'd be asking 80k? 40 hrs a week would have you do a plane in 40 weeks give or take. Sounds reasonable but are they selling for over the kit price?

    • @rv6ejguy
      @rv6ejguy 4 роки тому +2

      My instrumented flight experiments in this vein would indicate that this isn't true. The T51 rad layout is not even as well designed at the original P51.

    • @danmallery9142
      @danmallery9142 4 роки тому +1

      @@rv6ejguy That would be in line with what I have heard. Something that has been pointed out is that the BF109, Spitfire and Tempest all took advantage of the Meredith effect with their radiator inlets as well. @@Pantdino It's's rated at +6/-4 Gs, so I don't see how the structure would be the limiting factor. Drag force increases as the square of velocity, so it takes WAY more power to go a little faster. Still, the thunder mustang kit plane goes 450mph with 700hp, and of course the real p51d goes 450-475 with ~1700hp. But of course, the p51d is bigger, has more frontal area, and thus more drag...
