We plant wheat in the middles as a cover crop. Where we live it is very flat land and wind erosion is a major problem if you don’t plant a cover crop. We do not harvest it. The melon plants will also tie on to the wheat as they spread out and it helps anchor the plant.
I do 65cm in the row and two spades between the rows. But you can get double the watermelons in the same space if you use certain varieties. I'm semi new though but farm for large sale from our family farm.

AWESOME video, awesome music

You must live somewhere cold. No leaves and sweaters on the workers when you plant the starters. Cool video
I live here and I can tell you the answer as no, in the summer we can have days from 80 - 100 degrees
Nice!! I wish I could visit the farm
Country music meets rap music. What a heinous combination.
I thought I was the only who noticed how disturbing and awesome it is at the same time
Pretty cool!

People never think of where their food comes from and how much work is involved with it.

Why do you plant wheat in between the rows?
Βαγγέλης Γκρέτσης Our land here is very flat and sandy, so we plant wheat and Rye in the middles for wind protection.
@@mooremoorefarms94 thanks for replying, definitely something new to me and greek farming! Thanks again.
what is the black patch meant for??
I’m pretty sure that’s plastic mulch for weed suppression.
To heat the ground, watermelons thrive on warmer soil temperatures
What do you have planted in between? Is that just grass or can you use it for feed?

@@mooremoorefarms94 Cool. We'll try that on a patch this season. Thanks from South Africa.
