I think there is another bug which is a bug with the spotting itself So basically I noticed that when Sniping with BBs at long range, if there is only one ship inside your main guns spotting ballon range {usually at the start of the match}, if you shoot at and kill that ship you go dark {that is to say your spotting range goes back to normal}. However, if another ship enters your main guns balloon range before the 20 second spotting penalty is over you get spotted by that ship after you have gone dark and the spotting penalty timer continues tiking down from where ever it had already reacher till it hits 0 and you go unspotted again. This also sometimes happens randomly during a match if you go behind a smaller island after shooting your guns and come out the other side before that 20 seconds is up you get spotted immediately by ships outside your normal spotting range and the timer counts down the couple seconds left on spotting penalty before returning to normal. I don't know if it's just me or there's something wrong somewhere. I observed the first issue while playing japanese BBs like nagato and amagi while I observed the second playing Petropavlovsk and Amagi. Please note I was using the spotted timer mod which is how I was able to notice this it's impossible to notice with base game spotting icon.
I haven't been able to replicate it successfully yet but it does happen randomly in-game when playing Random battles EDIT: Replicate it in the training room, I mean
At 10:52 you can clearly see that the smoke timer vanishes with him still being in smoke and at the same exact time he gets the spotting ribbon on the Buffalo. We got these smoke bugs + at least 4 aiming bugs in the game for the last 5 months now. And its baffeling to me that they dont even fix that stuff for their beloved Kots tournament. The game literally becomes kinda unplayable at this point. Spaghettis gonna spaghett
Remember that secondary range bug Flamu made two videos about, last year in June? One hypothesis was that it had something to do with submarine hydrophone, although to my knowledge we never had any conclusion to this issue. And, lo and behold! A submarine was right on the premises in this particular mystery. It really makes you think, doesn't it?
Also to note, submarines can have one-way spotting similar to smoke by submerging to periscope depth. BY THE WAY, I think I need to check my replays but I had one case of an enemy sub at max depth getting spotted but we had no submarine surveillance or hydro near that sub. Strange.
The smoke timer was there and it suddenly disappeared, that's when the Mino got the spotting ribbon. It looked the same as if the Mino had left the smoke entirely. Then when it actually leaves the smoke it's immediately spotted and gun bloom is maxed, it would be interesting to know who got the spotting ribbon there. It's as if when he left the smoke that had no timer it was the same as no smoke at all.
Yes. It looks to me like some of the smoke mechanics is tied to the first puff. Not only the timer, but also once you are beyond the first puff, if a new enemy moves into a location you could spot if you weren't in the smoke, your spotting will ignore the smoke and hide the timer. That would explain both the spot of the enemy and that ship being spotted by the enemy mino.
Agreed, the smoke timer bug has been a thing for at least six months now. I know the supertesters have been submitting reports about it, but are ignored.
You’ll notice tho that the icon changes each time for the smoke icon. When you are laying it and outside of it you see the most recent cloud and the icon is a smoke can. After you finish laying it and you are inside the smoke screen it’ll show you the last cloud but with an arrow in the smoke so you know really how long you have left as your smokescreen dissipates
My best guess is that the Thrasher which the Halford killed had hydrophone active when he died. For some reason that event happening within the smoke screen broke the smoke screen.
I didn't see how close the enemy Mino was, but the only way he could spot our guys Mino was if he was within the distance of the smoke firing penalty, but because our Mino can't spot the smoked Mino, he's clearly not within the the penalty range. Pretty interesting bug that.
Here on the legends version of the game (console version) we've a bug where using a skill to buff duration and deployment time of smoke will result in you being periodically spotted in your smoke the moment a fresh puff is spawned. (Yes the player is in smoke during the entire time)
It would be interesting to hear about this with other ship's smokes... if Halford smoke conceals only when your in it, but allows to spot when your in it as well, that's just as game-breaking as being seen THROUGH smoke. It also looked like the Halford was spotted as well when he was behind the smoke and the opposing minotaur was still in the smoke.
10:50 U can see the smoke timer disappearing just when buffalo is about to peak around the corner. Feels like WG "fixed" smoke on island bug in a special way.
Man the smoke timer is so jacked up. I was so used to it counting the time of the smoke you were in, not the first puff. What use it the knowing the one you’re not in…
It's as if the smoke doesn't exist (server side), but the client is still rendering it. Maybe the server glitched out and cut the line of the halford's smoke short?
I've seen this too, just randomly spotted an Akizuki from 6km away while he was in his smoke. Was just me an one other ship that was halfway across the map.
I recently tried using a legmod built minotaur exactly the same as flamu had in a video a few months prior and had noticed the smoke laying time was also drastically less than what flamu had in that video. everything was the same but i thought it was just a nerf or something.
So a smoke getting laid by someone else is having wonky interactions. 1.) Baltimore got spotted because she didn't get obscured by Halford's smoke. 2.) The Mino got spotted because she left the smoke and ran into the same problem Baltimore had, the smoke didn't count once the ship is outside of it. That is an insane bug, smoke was never this buggy.
Flamus vids proving the horrible state of WG's code just don't get enough attention. This should be bigger no matter if its the smoke, the f-key etc etc
seems to me he is spotted because his spotting range out of the smoke is full range now and the smoke between him and the Monty / Buffalo does not count anymore, hence the Mino down south can see him, due to monty / buff spotting him
I don't play very much any more but even over the last few years I recall seeing the spotted icon pinging on and off seemingly at random for no reason after leaving smokes. It doesn't surprise me that the game might be falling apart.
I noticed it too during Operations. My friendly laid down smoke and I knew I should be fine as I am in San Diego started blasting and got spotted. Somehow.
Have gotten a few questionable spotting ribbons. Definitely the most noticeable one for me is I'm in smoke and it says it will run out. So I leave and there's a more recent puff that still has like 20 seconds
There has also been a bug with AA. If a cv is 1-2km out of your range and drops a fighter it will spot you sooner. Some reason the fighter spawns 1km-2km or more to where the cv dropped its fighters, causing your aa to shoot the fighter and be spotted while their main planes are 7-8km away
Wait, I’m trying to process what you’re mentioning. So a Fighter drop at 1-2km from your AA range. And your AA focus on the fighter? Fighters flew in circles and doesn’t stay in the same place. It might get caught on the AA range. It should be working as intended. AA will focus on a squadrons that being targeted first. Which in this case, fighters. IDK I tried to process what you are saying.
@@tsuaririndoku it’s more of it being dropped for instance your as range is 5.8km on most ships, the fighter can be dropped around 7-8km from you but the moment they drop you’re spotted and your AA is shooting the fighter while the main planes are out of your range by 1km or more still
Yeah just had a smoke bug. I was in a shima and was trying to smoke a teammate BB and I hit him halfway and got tangled up for a few seconds and all of a sudden no more smoke puffs came out. It was weird.
If the mino spots the buffalo while in smoke, then wouldn't a reasonable conclusion be that the mino is getting spotted by the opponent mino since that guy is in smoke? Clearly smoke spotting is broken or something. Seems like you can spot normally while being in smoke.
So my guess is that the bug is causing a Smoke screen to do inverted stuff. Where it inverted IDK what bug causes it but it is either Submarine Surveillance causing a Bug or a Support Carrier Smoke Screen causes a Bug. Like seriously just revert back to CBT codes and leave it like that to fix the game.
I'm going to play devil's advocate: I think I prefer seeing the timer for the oldest puff of smoke when inside of it. Bug or not, knowing when the smoke is actually starting to dissipate is, imo, more useful
You wouldn't normally smoke up whilst inside someone elses smoke, unless it was really down to the dying seconds and not still in transition. Especially when you pop your less than a minute duration smoke, inside a longer duration smoke, with the same duration left, as your fresh smoke. If that makes sense
I stopped playing Wows for sometime. Like 2 years. I noticed if you laid down the smoke, you get the updates of the most recent smoke timer back then if you left it. If you left a smoke that was laid down by a team mate, the smoke updates just stopped. Did they change anything since then?
And with all these continuous issues with the game, I still wonder why people get so angry at others in the game when sometimes it might be the game working against you and you dont even know it.
Are we sure that the enemy mino spotting the radar mino wasn't outside or behind the smoke? Even if that's the case the moment he returns to his smoke shouldn't be able to spot anything inside of it 😂
I'm not sure if it is my incompetence or another smoke bug. But as I was firing from smoke and it expired just after I fired I was spotted for the full 20 seconds after firing. Again, not sure if thats another bug or me not paying attention but it happened to me lately several times.
It's not a bug. When you shoot your detection range goes up for about 2-3 seconds. If there aren't any ship that can spot you it goes down back to normal concealment afterward
This is why i just play Ops. The game is so buggy that it's not worth trying to PvP, when stuff like this can happen. and thats not taking into account the nonsense of perma removal of core game mechanics (MGM's, secondaries, AA guns, torp tubes) which is such a BRILLIANT idea, along with the saddening passiveness of high tier, combined with the meh-ness of mid tier, and the RNG foundation which lets a Nagato miss a target, 7km away, with a full broadside (speaking from my own gameplay).
Reading some of the chat comments I can clearly see why the player base is what it is right now, not understanding how smoke works... wow. And might_of_mjolnir84 needs to learn how to play all over again or he has 50 battles till T4 at most. Another one saying Mino went out of his smoke to spot main Mino, then went into his smoke again, to keep spotting main Mino... omg my brain cells. Average WOWS players all over the damn chat!!!! 🤮🤮🤮
The first thing I think is a genuine game mechanic with shitty execution. The second thing I have no idea. Could be related to the height of the minotaur? because you do spot ships from the tallest point on your ship, right? What if minotaur is just somehow taller than other ships? Maybe they fucked up the ship model with the last update?
Good job Wargaming, good job. Creating Schrodinger's smokescreen now, and I thought I was losing my mind when it happened to me. Also thanks for watching my short about this on stream Flamu.
@flamuu I'm pretty certain smoke is a one way mirror, where you can see out of it, but not into it. If you sit in a smoke and got radared by a DM at 9.9km, you will still see it shooting at you.
The first one isn't a bug. It's always been there. The arrow icon shows the oldest smoke timer dispersing. The smoke icon shows the latest. If you're inside the smoke and you're the owner, if you hold ALT you will see the timer of the entire smoke duration (the latest one)
Why do you even make such an argument when it's so easy to prove you wrong? It hasn't always been there, the game used to show you the smoke duration of the puff you were in. Very easy to prove, a Jinan video from earlier this year, with a time stamp ua-cam.com/video/wsG2cJjV7jU/v-deo.html . You can clearly see the timer change as I move from a fading puff to a more recent one. People are so very confidently incorrect it's baffling.
@@Flamuu From the timestamp, I do agree that this can't be seen anymore in today's version and it's bugged. In today's version you can only see the total amount of smoke that's left by pressing alt (that only applies for your own smoke) but it doesn't update as you move through it. I commented because I haven't seen you testing it with ALT button and you were relying without it specifically. Nowadays you need to remember where it last dispersed which isn't ok.
There's one smoke timer for multiple puffs of smoke, everyone will consider which smoke it displays as wrong, or "buggy". Situations like this in code are usually a revolving door of bugs, where each QA wants a different behavior and devs are balancing between getting the ticket out of the queue, and a meeting to decide the "correct" behavior, which just leads to another bug a few months later. Game code is always a balance between "correct" and "fast". Game code generally leans towards fast over correct because people will stop playing a game for low frame rate long before smoke timer display issues make them leave.
How this will likely play out, WG sees Flamu's ticket, fixes it, a few months later, someone decides it should behave differently, either a youtuber or QA, rinse wash repeat.
One possible explanation is that the other mino has shorter gun range and primary mino is sailing into his range while the other mino is kiting. But it’s probably a bug.
bruh you can see the tracers coming from inside the other mino's smoke. He's either inside the smoke or kiting out behind the smoke. In either situation he wouldn't be able to spot him.
In the last clip the Minotaur is probably getting plane spotted by the Montana spotter plane because when he shoot outside of smoke he get gun bloom detected. Gun bloom spotting use the same exclamation detection icon even though you got gun bloom spoted by aircraft. Edit: The strange part is why he spot the buffalo from smoke, not why he get detected when shotting outside of smoke.
I thinking something same. I do like to know what update they had noticed this from. Because I clearly remember months back (maybe years) that when Im x distance away from my smoke, or someone elses, and firing, then I will still get spotted from the enemy on the other side of the smoke. Having your detection by sea and air on the minimap can help, as it will show your current detection. I think it is in the coding that it hasnt take into account with the smoke in front of someone
@@Danspy501st I use a mod that display spotted timer and it lit me up whenever I got gun bloom detected so I'm fairly familiar with the gun bloom sploting. Wargaming actually use the same icon for gun bloom spoting for both surface and aircraft so it is undertandable if people get confuse.

@flamuu I'm pretty certain smoke is a one way mirror, where you can see out of it, but not into it. If you sit in a smoke and got radared by a DM at 9.9km, you will still see it shooting at you.
This has been a thing on console since forever....
Old bugs, wg still not fix it
puff and buff the magic dragon
This is some CS level of smoke bs 😂😅
My guess is minotaur can spot normally out of smoke? Since that happened both times, just with different minotaurs
How can anyone complain about a game where players tolerate Hydro-Acoustics that work through 6km of mountains?
One possible explanation is that the other mino has shorter gun range and primary mino is sailing into his range while the other mino is kiting.
But it’s probably a bug.
bruh you can see the tracers coming from inside the other mino's smoke. He's either inside the smoke or kiting out behind the smoke. In either situation he wouldn't be able to spot him.
@ayayaybamba3445 Also the OP has stock range. Their range couldn't be lower anyway.
Are you kidding, you are just discovering this after 9 years. ROFL It has never changed from day 1 of BETA version of the game !!!
Wargaming actually use the same icon for gun bloom spoting for both surface and aircraft so it is undertandable if people get confuse.
i had some strange happening too, just couldn't work it out do came of the game
huh? i though evryone knew about that bug 1:05 , i supose iwasnt that common
it definitely gets real at 13:00 recreate it.
