It's wonderful that these people who worked so hard found joy in the quilting. Even utilitarian quilts were a constant visual reminder of comfort you provided for your family. The comment about the poorer people not having or even knowing about quilts to keep warm was so sad. Thank you for sharing these stories, Tipper.
I love hearing Mr. Stewart refer to his momma as mommy. My Appalachian family did the same. It was sweet to hear. I grew up hearing my dad refer to my momma as mommy. 🥰

Was nice to hear you mention Pikeville, KY. My children’s paternal grandparents were from there. Their grandmother quilted quilts for them when they were toddlers. I washed them too much and they started to fall apart . I wish I had treasured them more and handled them more gently. Now I understand their value and her love.❤

Enjoyed seeing Binx patrol the garden. Assume your garden statue is St. Francis. I think every garden needs one. St. Francis stands in my front garden and Buddha in the back garden. My cats like both of them.
I just saw your short about idlesom. When I moved outwest many of my neighbors would point out that I was always busy. That fits perfectly with quilting. Since many would do this as a winddown activity before going to bed. Some times, in the fall, as the daylight hours shorten I will turn on the yard lights, go outside and weed. Not for any reason other than what else would you do at 5PM after dinner but before bed? Great content, history must never be forgotten.

I have this book & never get tired of looking through it. I'm only 51, but people today do not realize how good they have it. We don't know struggle like these people did.

Oh my goodness gracious that spiral quilt that Hannah made is stunning. I have been quilting for a few decades now and I have never seen a spiral that large. If I had that pattern it would just have to be in my list of quilts that just have to be made. It would look amazing in a king size. Wow! I need one! ❤

I love to listening to you read Tipper. I like Dwight yokam. He's from pikeville Kentucky. He was small when his mom & dad moved to Ohio. They returned to see grandparents in pikeville. and they sang which influenced him. Loved hearing about the quilters 😊
All of these people are just so incredibly interesting. As I child I loved old people, I would visit with them just as soon as going out to play. Now, I are one, lol.😂
One phrase I heard tonight and I’ve heard you say during different readings is, “it just ticked her (him/me.)”. My mom and her people (Stewarts) always said that. It had been many a year since I’ve heard that and it made me smile. Have a great weekend. TeresaSue

This is the first book ive listened to you read. I love it. I wish i could quilt. Id also like to learn to braid rugs. Thanks for reading these. They are so nice when im doing stuff with my hands in water. I love the whole book so far.

This is a good book, but I did not warm up to it as quickly as i did with the Alex Stewart book. I had to keep coming back to your readings of it before I enjoyed it. Maybe it is because I do not think alot about art for art's sake.
