that is a bit of a hard one to answer as everyone has a different view of what can be seen as problems and what not. Danny Hulme left a comment under Peter Jones's comment which sums a lot of the issues up, although some of those will not apply across the whole of NZ, this will also depend on the area, from his points I might just point out a few things, "damp houses" yes you still get them but the government is really clamping down on this, new rules have been put in place for rentals where they have to be dry and warm. House prices are extremely high, same for rentals, especially in Auckland, but this is quite different the more you go outside of Auckland, especially parts of the South Island. Then you have gang activity which seem to be increasing, but again, the issues is not everywhere this is more apparent towards West Auckland. Bullying at school and suicide rate is unfortunately a big problem. The best you can do is to look at NZ's news sites, sites like NZ Herald or Stuff, keep an eye on that and decide what you classify as a problem, because for me (taking in account the violence/constant stress we had to deal with in SA), all the positive things New Zealand has to offer totally outweigh the potential problems you might face here.
