Great video series. Thanks for explaining things so clearly and thoroughly. Makes it really easy to understand for a beginner like me. Really glad I’ve found your channel 😊
It seems you can also mix the different filter types on the same filter. For instance if you start with the analogue 12db filter and put a sharp peak resonance in it, then add the comb filter(all on Filter 1) they combine and you get a scoop at the beginning of the comb filter. So somehow they combine I believe. Saw this on another tutorial though the combination of the 2 filter types on the same filter wasn't explicitly mentioned. Any thoughts on this?
don't exactly understand comb filters, but what I gather is that it works on the harmonic frequencies to give it more instrument like timbre. I saw one tutorial where they used the comb filter to make a very realistic kalimba and flute. even in your example the sound you comb filtered started taking on a flute character.
Basically it's a bunch of resonant peaks and dips that give your sound a kind of flangey tone and feedback and yeah you can use it to make sounds feel more like instruments like that or you can use it to make your sounds feel more metallic :) the keytrack function is great for giving a sound more melodic tones as well
My question is : the little wave icons at either end of the 'Blend' bar at the top of the filter display... they're not static i.e. mostly they seem to indicate low pass on the left and high pass on the right but every now and then I notice that these icons have changed into eg. a peak icon or a notch icon and sometimes they've changed to arrows. The 'Plucked String' factory patch has a peak icon at the left and a notch icon at the right. Initialize the patch and select the same filter: Comb: Band Spread Comb and those icons have reverted to low pass and high pass. Any ideas?
woah, i never noticed that but youre right! I have no clue other than its probably a weird bug, ill go ahead and forward this to the developer and see what he says
okay so in the process of showing the developer I figured out the bug: if you select bandspread comb before turning on the filter, the icon is notches if you enable the filter first and then choose bandspread comb its high pass low pass

I'm subbing, you're amazing at explaining stuff like this! Keep it up
Appreciate it thank you!
Appreciate your approach. Easy to understand. Like the focus on one section of Vital for each video.

This is exactly what I needed right now. Dense with info and easy enough to understand for someone new to all of this like me. Thanks.

if you select bandspread comb before turning on the filter, the icon is notches
if you enable the filter first and then choose bandspread comb its high pass low pass
its completely visual though
@@qbikmusik great detective work. So no functionality = have another beer.
