    Interesting. I want to make one myself..But I wish there was a video showing you how to actually make a battery pack. I have searched 100s of videos and they are all the same. Add the batteries, add the BMS board and it's done!!! Which wire goes where? On the BMS what is P+ P- Exactly where and why? What is the tape you use? If this video was an hour long and it took you step by step for dummies. I would watch the whole thing.! 🙂

      I would use 3.7v 18650 or 3.2v lifepo4 myself. 1.2v cells are generally not for any type of high power usage they are used mostly for small solar lights etc. 1.2v is a usually a AA battery cell if memory serves.

    One question, if you were to build two battery packs with BMS, each one is 12V, can it be charged in series (24V)? since I have a 24V charger or do I have to get a 12V charger to charge them.

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  3 роки тому +1

      The simple answer is no. Bms is usually will work in parallel but not always and series. You can connect them and series and try your charger worst-case it just won’t charge the bms Will stop the charger from turning on

    cool video!, what about balancing each cell?

    • @seanmikhaels
      @seanmikhaels 5 років тому

      Mark Cooper Agree, there could be tons of improvements, but i think its a good start. That particular BMS has a high current shut off i believe, and short circuit protection built in, but always wouldn’t hurt to be 100% safe and add some fuses to protect each cell from blowing up.

    • @Nitrxgen
      @Nitrxgen 5 років тому +2

      Well... that BMS is designed for 3S and he does actually connect it the way it's intended, for the most part, with 4 nickel strips connecting to each end set of parallels. You can't really balance each cell per parallel because... they're parallel, they're connected to each other. The length of each strip may impact how balanced it is over time but those nickel strips should be pretty good while I reckon. I'm not a fan of this particular video but I dunno if I can fault him that much. I would've done a better job attaching the BMS and output cables though. I would've gotten a less cheap BMS perhaps with the wires already attached.

    • @hansturpyn5455

    Thank you once again for the video. Some time back I requested a few info from you. Perhaps amidst the busy schedule you’d have overlooked, which is understandable. Here are the requests once again, kindly respond.
    1) Do you sell PURE (99.6%) Nickel strips for 2P design through your AMAZON store? If so, please point to that link. If not please recommend a HONEST Vender who sells the same.
    2) The Spot welding on those batteries look so perfect. I’m sure that welding machine must be a SUNKKO. What model is that and do you sell the same model, through your AMAZON store?
    FYI I use SUNKKO 788H that is so useless, that the welded Ni strip can be peeled off very easily.
    Any help from your side will be highly appreciated. Thanks and regards.

    Hello Wes That Tech Guy, I made my first 3s batterypack few days ago. Using 3 x 4 = 12 cells. I did not solder or weld them. I used the spring loaded 3 cell plastic containers, and glued them back to back opposite directions. No cell touches eachother. But from the top and bottom I attached lot of wires, positives, negatives, and balance wires that goes together to the BMS at one end. Then I ducktaped the whole thing.
    I am using it to run powerful 100watt LEDs on my bike.
    Is it safe so far?

    I wouldn't advise spot welding to PCB pads. They are thin and could easily delaminate from the board. I'd solder instead. Also nowhere near enough power for an e-bike or "power wall", unless you make a bunch of these, and there's better form factors for bikes. Would also be nice to know how you're using your spot welder (120V or 230V, settings, etc.) - I've seen mixed reviews on those. Nonetheless, thanks for the video.

    You never said what size wire you used to attack to the bms board? I would hate to use wire to small and cause a fire :(

      I used 10g for this build as its a small pack with only an assumed 20a continuous discharge.

    Do you use the same wires to charge the batteries and to power a device? Could we have two plugs? One to charge and one to power the device?

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  3 роки тому

      Yes it does. This is a common port BMS, You could add another positive wire to have 1 for load and 1 for charge so you don't have to unplug to charge. Or you can get a dual port BMS. 1 for charge and 1 for load.

    Hi i have question about my BMS 10S
    -Whent I measure the voltage between S1 and S10 .I find 37 V but the output the BMS to motor I find average 24 V
    Please where is the problem?

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  3 роки тому

      too many variables to answer here. Check your balance leads. also some BMS will show incorrect voltage if the balance leads are not correctly wired in series.

      We have several current ratings to choose from. 25a, 45a, 60a, 100a all the way to 300a, you can find all of my BMS's here: solargeni.com/balance-bms. Not sure if your 4s is Lifepo4 or Lithium-ion but we have both.

    Hi Wes,
    I just found your channel and this video. I love the battery you built in this video and am wondering if you can help me?
    I live in Toronto, Canada. Finding LiOn battery building equipment and supplies here is proving to be very difficult.
    I have an electric Chopper motorbike that I bought. It's made in China, like everything! The batteries that came with the bike are lead acid, had great power, they are a combined 72Volts. I need to replace the batteries completely. Ive had the bike for 4 years, this year I wasn't able to drive it because of trying to get batteries because of covid was incredibly difficult, and when they were available the cost was stupid.
    Since I bought the bike I have thought that LiOn would be a much better power source and have wanted to switch over, but the cost to buy the batteries needed is incredible if I buy them already built, which is posing to be one of the biggest problems yet. Noone seems to manufacture 72V batteries, so, I'm thinking to build it myself. However I have no experience in building batteries, and don't want to screw my bike up.
    I also want to install a regenerating system so that as I drive the motion of driving could generate electricity that could simultaneously charge while driving. Again, having no experience in this I need help.
    The help I'm needing is:
    1. Where can I get the supplies to build the battery for the bike?
    2. Where can I get the info on building the battery?
    3. Will I need to build a charger or is there something on the market I can buy for charging the battery?
    4. And finally, how would I go about building a motion operated regenerating system that can be easily attached to the bike?
    Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You!
    -Matt
