~ is there an update review on the results this looks cool I want...And where can you get moss..What seeds do I need… How long does it take to grow… Do you need soil...?? What type of mosses should be used?? Thx ~
when you put the moss on the substrate, how long does it take for the rhizoids to adhere? can i begin using it right away or do i have to wait for the moss to attach?
Hey! So I've been super creative and made this really big moss mat (to collect water from the sink AND the shower) but mine is just not working at all. I'm wondering if it's my substrate. Did the cork not work at all? And are you finding now that the coco fiber is more successful? I was originally using a carpet that had been outside and already had moss growing on it. No mold, but the moss wasn't properly cleaned so I've had little gnats, gonna use your method of cleaning the moss =)
Mine took a couple months, in fact I didn't think it was attaching at all until I decided to stop using the bathmat entirely. When I went to pull the moss up to plant it outside I discovered that about half the moss had adhered.
Lanium hey thanks! I will try to make one myself. What about the floor under the mat? Will it get moldy or stain? Asking because I have an expensive marble floor in my bath room. What about little critters living in the mat? Tell me about your experience :) Is the awesomeness of a moss mat worth it?
Indoor Oasis I do, mate, I do! Got a Suzuki TS 50 and am currently looking for a motorcycle driving school to be able to borrow my dads ‘82 Yamaha DT 250.
Yes. Some sunlight is a good idea. Moss can be a low light plant but not a no light plant. Maybe led daylight spectrum lights on for 12 hours a day would be sufficient, but I don't know for sure.
@@katarinalivaskani1250 yes and some type of water resistant foam so it doesnt leak through the frame and get into the wall.., then cork board, then netting.. then glue it with floral glue.. i think. im sure there are various ways you can do it..still havent gotten around to it lol.
imo your background music is too loud making it difficult to hear your voice. and the background music was annoying too further distracting from your explaination .
Please get a cotton bathmat you can wash, instead of taking living plants out of the woods in order to kill them in your bathroom. If you love the feel of moss on your bare feet, go out to the woods and take your shoes off.
I agree with you after my overall experience with the bathmat. Not worth the effort for most and possibly bad for the natural world if too many undertake similar endeavors. A cotton bathmat that closely resembles a mossy forest floor is what I'd like to have.
I mean if the person who does it is a good botonist then they can grow their moss. It only takes a month for one patch of moss to get a heck of a lot bigger.
This little ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
Great job with this one!
As someone who has tried to have moss on my bonsai indoors, I struggled with allergies because the moss would release spores.
Looks like a forest
Beautiful

I love this idea!
XL 500 , moss collection like a boss
Could you use cardboard ? (think I may have seen it used) as your substrate outside for the outside shower idea ? Building one now in Hawaii.

Mine actually never adhered for some reason. Probably not kept moist enough.

Absolutely BRILLANT idea! THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for this
oh my mussy heart thank you beautiful dude
can you give us an update. You made this mat 4 years ago. I just feel uneasy not knowing how well this mat faired.
How long does it take for the moss to grow rhizomes and adhere to the base ?

@@ryanlanyi Why did you decide to stop using it?
Where did you get the silicone tray from? Awesome idea btw! Love it
Thanks, I used this dog buddy tray. It's perfect!

Stay tuned for an update video where I'll discuss the it's long-term performance and any issues. But zero bugs or staining thus far.
Lanium awesome thanks I will wach your update 👍🏻
@@ryanlanyi have you made an updated video?
How did it go? Did the chlorine etc from water kill it
came for moss mat, stayed for vintage enduro!
Haha best comment on this video! Glad you appreciate the 1981 👍

Anyone using A Honda XL for transportation is reputable in my book. 🤘🏻
What abt sunlight?
Of course that will help. A skylight or window is good.
Like @ EvansIsabell I'd like to know about the need for sunlight?
Yes. Some sunlight is a good idea. Moss can be a low light plant but not a no light plant.

I love this, thank u for the tutorial!
Was it not necessary to stick/glue the coco onto the Silikon? You just placed it there like that?
Gravity is the glue as long as you leave it flat on the floor!
Do you use soap of any kind 🤔
Awesome!
Are there any biggger silicon trays?
How is this holding up?
What size mat did you use? The link includes 3 different sizes
I used the medium size one, 18 by 24 I believe.
What size silicone tray did you use?
24 by 16, but if I could do it again I might try the 32 by 24 option

How long did you soak the moss?
A couple hours
Well goddam. Make a wish come true why doncha
music... I hope that still works for you
how could i alter this so it can be hung on a wall?
Exactly what i'm trying to do too! I think we need some type of floral glue to hold the moss in place

enjoyable except that terrible music almost drowning out any talking
Thank you for your input, I will try to better mix audio in the future

Thank you for the feedback. Others have commented the same. I'll do a better job with audio mix in future videos.

24 by 18 I believe
so no one is going to ask about soap effects?
you dont wash up your soap of your body?
Do you have a permit to collect that rain water? Let's go brandon!
Don't need a permit in PA!
There are countries where you need a permit to collect rainwater???
Yup- illegal in nj

I work with moss and it's easy to do sustainably. You can easily propagate moss and return just as much back to the wild as you take.
