If I hadn’t seen them side by side, I was 99.99% for 14 inch…..but as soon as I saw both in store, I instantly went for 16 inch…I’m still in awe of how great this device is, It’s just too bad App Store doesn’t have enough choices for decent games to fully make use of that GPU
Great overview video and you make good points when it comes to portability, particularly about whether it will fit on trays on the rear of train seats etc, something we might not think of. Also the additional weight of the 16” is adversely disproportionate to the extra screen size you get so for both these points I’d go for the 14”
I have a 2015 15" and my initial thought was to go for the 16". But I just discovered it's even heavier 4.7 pounds instead of 4.4. Also I'm worried I'll accidentally press on the larger trackpad with my palms when typing. I usually bring the laptop with me every day. Though I use my car for transport
@@sophiedodsworth I just went to the store to try it out. My palms does rest on the large trackpad and I can feel the transition between the cabinet and the trackpad. It's also a really heavy machine. The 14" does feel more natural for me for some reason when I'm writing. But the screen size does also feel restricted compared to the 16" and even compared to my current 15"
I will be sticking with my M1 macbook air. Not saying I'd say no if someone wanted to give me one of these laptops, but they're just not worth the extra cost for me. I think for most people the macbook air is still the best choice.
@@sophiedodsworth The macbook air used to be the nice little entry level machine for everyday tasks, but for the real work you needed to step up to the macbook pro, so I never gave it much consideration myself. Since M1 that's all been upended. Now the macbook air M1 outperforms the previous Intel i9 16 inch macbook pro, and you can do pretty much anything you want on it and it will perform nicely. And it is still just as thin and light! I absolutely adore mine and it can do some serious work.
@@sophiedodsworth I’m always keen on input from others :) current I’m on a MBP 13” early 2015 base model. Therefore any option is gonna be a massive improvement of performance. I do mainly photo editing as the most taxing task. At home i hook it up to a larger screen and i generally take it on all my travels + to work. I’m kinda drawn to the base 14” with 1TB ssd. Not sure if spending the extra on the unbinned version of the M1 Pro will be very beneficial to me. Editing off the larger screen would be very nice though especially as we got such a massive improved one. Nonetheless as i said every iteration of the MBP will be a huge leap in performance from what i currently use.
I’d probably just use a MacBook Pro at home for most of the time, and it would most likely be rare for me to take it outside of home. Do MacBooks come in blue or green colour? Otherwise I’d lean towards the grey colour I reckon, thanks for this helpful video to look back on if I need a refresher about MacBooks Sophie! 😊
@@sophiedodsworth I might! 😂💙💙😂 On subject now: I’ve never owned a MacBook, could you possibly recommend one for a beginner MacBook user? I just feel like I “need” a MacBook because I have every other Apple device! 😎 I wouldn’t need the MacBook to have all the pro features, so the least expensive MacBook would be better for my use, maybe not the cheapest one, but definitely not the most expensive one either. Thank you for any advice!
Hi, I'll graduate soon and most likely work as a software engineer. I do value portability, but I also want to buy a better value computer that allows me to be productive when I sit down. With student discounting, both prices are affordable, with 14 being more affordable for sure. However, the price difference between 16 inches and 14 inches seems negligible. Given that, I think that 16 inches is better value, which is why I went with 16 inch 16GB 1TB. However, after thinking about it a little more, I'm not sure again, because most employers already provide employees with brand new computers. I can return it to get a 14 inch base model. What do you think I should get?
Hi! 👋You're right, most employers do provide employees with computers but it depends which they provide you with, and if it would suit how you work. I personally have a computer provided by my employer but 99% of the time I use my iMac because I'm far more productive when using it. I think given the 16" is probably a good choice for you!
I use it for After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, C4D (potentially Blender soon). Usually dock it in clamshell mode but may use it open soon. But want something on the go. Wondering whether the weight and size of bigger version is really worth it. I prob will use on trains. (I’m 6ft tall). The 14” was the dream but that 16” is so tempting! Decisions…
Would you pick the 14 inch or 16 inch MacBook?! Silver or space grey?! Let me know! 💻
I think the 16” is just worth too much money, you can buy a decent car for that amount 😊
I would lean towards the 14” if I had the money to buy one.

Great video sophie! I upgraded to the 16” Silver! Think it looks awesome, and I’m coming from a 15” Touchbar Space Grey

Just the silver and space grey for the MacBooks! But the iMacs come in green and blue!

@@jessebritt4479 If it would be rare for you to take it outside of your home then probably the 16" so you can benefit from the larger screen!
How is the comfort of typing between the two? The keyboards are the same, but the 16” is further from the edge of the laptop.
For me personally, I find it slightly comfier typing on the 16". However, the 14" isn't uncomfortable by any means to type on.
