- Tommy Edwards, a Richmond, VA singer-songwriter had a No. 1 hit song in the 1958 "It's All in the Game" and charted numerous other hit songs as a performer and a writer. Produced by Randy Scott, former radio personality at WLEE-AM, this documentary tells the story of this prolific local singer-songwriter.
I play his music nearly everyday, i never get tired of his songs. RIP Tommy.
In my eyes Tommy was one of the greatest ballads singers of all times God bless Tommy we will always remember Only the good times.
This is a great documentary, thanks so much to the filmmakers. Tommy Edwards was great and shouldn't be forgotten!
Thanks Phil. Randy Scott - Producer (and lover of Tommy's music).
I love love Tommy Edward's. The first time I heard " All in the Game" fell in love with it. It's ❤ still my all time favorite song...way above any other song.
.
I'm old enough to have heard this song the day it came out. I danced to it with my first girl friend. It was great then, it's still great today. Thank you for some marvelous memories.
I have listened to two of his songs for sixty years. The best ever.
In the history of popular music there have been great ballad singers. Tommy remains at the top . Thanks ___ rip Tommy
Everytime I hear this I'm a broken hearted teenager again. Remembering those bitter sweet times through this record make me well-up, even now, so many years down the line. Many thanks. Raymondo
Thank you Tommy Edwards for all of your songs and your unbelievable voice as long as i am on the air i will always be playing one of your songs me the Masterblaster RIP.
This was and has remained my favorite oldies song for 63 years. I heard it when I was 7
y/o. Those first six words without music, just makes me melt. What a song. What a voice!
None could sing Tommy's songs like Tommy Edwards.
Very very true
I listened to the other singers in my iTunes library samples; and not one of them came close enough to satisfy my desire to make a purchase of their remake of: it’s all in the game!
beautiful voice
I still listen to his music.
I am will you on this i make shore i listen to this an other singers.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! MISSING YOU TOMMY! REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS.
The great Tommy Edwards Rip ,and thanks for the great song you put out
Great guy great voice
To his family Tommy was such a g reat singer I was a teenager back t hen and his songs will forever live i n my heart God bless all of you.
I was a thirteen year old white teen. And I heard it’s all in a Game. I wore that record out by listening to it so much. I loved his voice so much.
I remember this like it was yesterday! It was 1990; I had just turned 18. I was working late evening in the bakery where I was a dishwasher. I was working alone and the radio was featuring a retro-themed program. They played "It's All in the Game" and I was completely blown away by the singer, the musical arrangement and the overall silkiness of the song... It was... heavenly!
I began to buy records of singers and groups from this era and I still enjoy this music to this day. Hearing doo-wop makes me feel like I am 20 yo again!
I once had a girlfriend who liked very much dancing with me on "Love is All We Need".
This music can make the Sad Angel smile!
I remember buying his double a side all in the game and please love me forever in the late 50s which I still love today ,it was one of my very first 78rpm records,I came on you tube to listen to them again, and this video started playing,I really enjoyed it thank you
You're most welcome. Randy Scott - the video producer
The Great Tommy Edwads,, Always and Forever....
Thank you for this wonderful interview... such a talent gone too young but the music he left us will live on forever.
Really great singer .
I was 12 y/o, in 7th grade, when Tommy Edwards masterwork hit AM Top 40 radio, in Denver. For me, all these years later, that version of " it's All In The Game " is as perfect a recording as could possibly be made in 1958. Every second is just beautiful. ------ RIP, Mr Tommy Edwards.----------------------MJL, 76 y/o
I still listen to this great singer.
ME TOO, HAD NO IDEAL HE WAS NO LONGER WITH US. REST IN PEACE TOMMY.
I always (like most others in 1958) very much enjoyed "It's All In The Game" recorded by Tommy Edwards. I didn't know that Tommy had recorded it earlier. But for most of 1958 I was 9 years old & turned 10 in September of 1958. Thank you for the documentary of Tommy Edwards. What wonderful, outstanding and a Silky smooth voice he had.
One of my best singer. I love all the songs of Tommy. A very Great singer from the past. He greatest hits is Unloved. Excellent !!!
There was a local station years ago that used to play oldies and this is how I discovered the great distinctive sound of Tommy Edwards. Sadly, that station converted to an all Spanish network years ago but I still listen to Tommy's great voice on youtube whenever I can. RIP Mr. Edwards. You are truly one of a kind!
Great singer from long long ago . His music is forever
What a singer.
I was 11 years old when this song came out in 1958, i was living in jamaica, my mom played it all the time, once you hear the first note you know its the great tommy edwards, R,I,P mom and Tommy.
Amen
Back then we used to skip jr.high and party on Tommy's porch. He played the Baby Grand in his house. One day so many of us younguns were on the front porch having a good ole time and the porch gave in. hahaha Fun Times. Thank you Sooooo much for this Remembering Sweet Tommy.
I was born in the fall of 1958. My older sis/ brother who were teens then told me this song was playing on the radio in nyc the day I came home from the hospital. I love this song.
Excellent video, nice to hear something about Tommy Edwards.
Thank you. This video was a labor of love. Producer, Randy Scott
I remember this song when I was a teenager and I loved this song snd played ir until I wore out. This song is so beautiful also Talk To Her Ple ase Mr. Sun is a favorite. All of his songs are beautiful.
My all time favorite
Beautiful 😍❤️ Story. God Bless You Mr Tommy Edwards SIR.
I loved all of his wonderful music. I listened to him all of the time.
The voice - mostly it was the kindness that just oozed from his voice. In the '50's there was Little Richard, who stood for rebelliousness, Chuck Berry, for fun, freedom from the past, and Tommy Edwards and also Fats Domino for - it's ok, we can can all still love each other. He touched my heart very deeply.
TY very much for the upload. What an excellent, well-produced, well-written, informative, moving & sympathetic treatment of a most magnificent singer & talented song writer. RIP Tommy Edwards, thank you for the rich legacy you have left us. :-)
Since 1958 I have been a fan of TE and his double sided hit with It is All in the Game. I was doing a tour of duty in Korea and after some songs that were silly on the pop music list his record was a breath of fresh air and the guy in my favorite bar understood it was a fav and when I came in that was the next record played. Damn but the memories are still so vivid. Where ever you are Miss Lee, I hope it is a better place and you had a better life.
None of the other versions of "It's all in the game", not even top crooner Nat King Cole come close to Edwards's version. I actually like both versions a lot, but I've also taken the firm resolution to go through all his other recordings, that seem to contain many other forgotten gems. As I was born in the 1960's, I only discovered the All in the game song via the October Sky movie. I was instantly impressed by this smooth, silky voice. Still hoping to come across an autographed record or sheet music of his, missed one a few years ago on eBay USA, still regret it till this day. Greetings from Belgium.
my favourite song.such feeling
I heard this song on the jukebox so many times...It is embedded in my mind. I always get a thrill from the changes. Great tune.
I never knew that Tommy Edwards was from Richmond, my home town.
He was the greatest ❤
All in The Game
My single favourite crooner of all time. "Morning Side of the Mountain".
Very interested about Tommy. Love the song "It's All in the Game." Very talented artist and song writer. Thanks for sharing. 🎶❤️
I was a young teen when I first heard Many a tear. In the middle of the night a few nights ago I woke up remembering this song. I recently lost my husband and I have been very sentimental lately. Tommy Edwards passed away very young. He had a lovely voice.
Wow thanks for this concise piece....what an underrated singer.
Thanks. Randy Scott - Producer.
Just wonderful music.
This is an excellent documentary of Tommy' career and life. It was wonderful to see a few of Tommy's family members included. Bravo Donald Gunter for all the work you did to ensure that Tommy was properly honored and remembered. It's All In The Game stands at #38 on Billboard's all-time highest charting hits. That is impressive! Thank you for putting this together.
Appreciate your kind comments. For me, making this documentary was a labor of love. Randy Scott - Producer
A wonderful tribute. Being born in 1950, I grew up with his M-G-M performances. The first one I heard was 1952s "Secret Love" which I was about 5 years old. I was mesmerized by his voice, so very, very different than what pop singers had in those days. But it was the flip side of that 78, his rendition of "That's All" that truly shattered me. I still have the 78 somewhere in my house but can't play it because my current turntable doesn't play 78s, but I know the arrangement by heart and can still hum it complete. It's *the* finest rendition of that song that I've ever heard.
I only wish Universal would take the time and remaster his entire catalog and present it as a whole, if not on CD then at least as a download.
Your the same age as me.
I used to love Jukebox.. I miss those days.. I'm in my sixties.
Nobody could sing all in the game like Tommy Edwards
Hear too
And I am 79 remembering jukeboxes malt shops and all the songs from the greatest era ever. Theaye 50"s and 60"s. Tommy Edwatds was one of greatest singers ever .
Thank you for this tribute.
⚘🙏⚘🎶
Thank you so much for this youtube..I have memories of the 4 Tops cover but the original holds the magic of a great melody rhythm and harmony and of course a great voice....
Glad you enjoyed it. Tommy's voice was one-of-a-kind.
Thank you, Community Idea Stations, for this bitter sweet, well-presented memorial to a fine artist. While on a very limited college-student's budget in 1970 I purchased from an F. W. Woolworth's budget record bin for 44 cents Tommy Edward's Greatest Hits Album. What a treasure to discover so many wonderfully-performed songs -- I can't tell you how many times I have played this album over the years. Thank you again 4/2019
Our DJ. DICK YOUNGS on KIOA Des Moines loved All in the Game. Youngsy would play it couple times a day for decades on top 50's songs....he even slipped it in on the 60"s hits. He always said this was greatest song ever recorded by the greatest voice. It is legendary and Tommy Edwards is a legend of the Oldies. I love this song. RIP. TOMMY.
⚘🙏⚘
good over view of his career, great singer
K maravillosa la voz de Tommy canta con el alma lo amaré siempre
My mom said she liked tommy since the early '50s. He came back again in the late '50s with an updated sound to many of his earlier hits.
I was and still am a dedicated fan of Tommy Edwards. As a teenager in his era, I also had a big crush on him, although I never met him - I would have loved to have met him. To this day I still listen to all of his music. Thank you, Tommy, for all the pleasure you gave so many people. I hope you are resting in peace.
Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Thank you for your kind comments. Randy Scott - Producer

When music was music
I was a kid when this came out and was moved by the unique sound of his voice and musical background itself. Got a ear 4 music u know instantly...I knew.
great story of a great singer of great songs...I love his music and it's sad to think he had no relationship with the lord ..may my friend Tommy RIP...
How do you know he didn't have a relationship with the Lord. He has a ✝️ cross on this tombstone. We never know anyone's last days....he may have talked to the Lord very intimately. I pray he is singing in Heaven with Nat King Cole. ⚘🙏⚘
Educational and entertaining.
Sou brasileiro, passei a admirar o Tommy após ouvir sua inesquecível canção. Obrigado por postar essa memória. Em, 2 0 2 3
TOMMY EDWARDS,WOULD HAVE HAD A WONDERFUL-"LATER CAREER,IF ONLY HE WOULD HAVE LIVEDINTO THE 1970,S,AS THE NOSTALGIA BOOM HAPPENED,THEN AND CONTINUES,TO THIS DAY
Now he is now in heaven singing to❤ the Lord
I had no idea of his color. He Rocked period . ... life was easier then. We didn't care.
I was seven. My parents had the 78 record. I played it until the needle made it white.
I have never found a video of him being interviewed.
Nor have I Angela. If one existed, I would have included it in this documentary. Randy Scott - producer.
R.I.P. Tony Bennett, the singer who did Tommy Edwards’ written song. 😢
Note at 6.41 - yje sheet music gives the song's title as "That Chicks Too Young TOO Fry". At 7.01 the record label gets it right, changing "too fry" to "to fry".
With The Other Artists Renditions, They Never Changed the Tempo Much I hate When Other Artist Sing a Song and Its Not Original as it Should Be
*@VPM News...😘😘😘😘😘😘Lindooo! Parabéns! Bjs!💢😘💢😘💢👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*

Tommy did great on Ed Sullivan but Ed Sullivan's people ripped up the song.
I didn't know that Rick ...sad , they didn't realise such a great singer he was
I broke up with my girl friend when Its All In The Game came out And Please Love Me Forever came out
Why
Replying to the text why I broke up with my girl friend. We were both y oung teens and that made the diff erence.
You shouldn't oughta done it
Awesome sounds I love the beginning intro background vocals "do do..do..do", does anybody know what song this came from?
Hi OJ. Randy Scott here. I produced this video doc. The opening music the lead in to Tommy's "Music Maestro Please".
@@randyscott7877 Thank you so much
Like Velvet...
Nat King Kole is probably the only person that could have sang Its All In The Game bettet than Tommy. Kole's cover of the song failed becomes he modeled it off the 1951 original version. If he had done a cover of th 1958 version it would have been amazingly good.
Who are these people?
i told my History professor Hr didbt believe me
Yea I no Rick to your reply. I was a pretty foolish young man.
Watching this again Ed Sullivan’s people ruined the song. Too fast too short. The original was a super masterpiece
