I was having an issue with both this and the original non-striped yarn with the corners and the holes getting too noticeably big. I solved this by doing the corners in the first 3 or 4 rounds with a smaller hook size. I also used a smaller hook size on the foundation chain for the first 2 and the last 2 chains. Thanks for your videos, they are fantastic.
Sounds like tension issue.when working chains that exists when you are starting a new project. Also sounds like after a few rows you settle in. What kind of hook are you using? I mean what brand or what style of hook at the throat and actual hook? Is it metal hook or plastic? These variables are often overlooked and that often cause these inconsistencies.
@@TwistedYarns clover amour. Usually I strip up a size for the chain because they're too tight, after experimenting with your technique I can use the same size for the foundation chain. One other thing I just noticed. When you do the slip stitch in the corner one end gets longer than the other and the pattern isn't symmetrical. So I put markers in for the last row and alternate ends to keep the pattern centered.
Thanks. The yarn is good old durable Red Heart Super Saver. But I have to admit they finally came up with such a delicious striped yarn. The color is Retro Stripes and, as usual, on the self-striping yarn, it also comes in dyelots so be careful if you see a whole bunch in a bin!
I found that I didn't have to change direction every round to keep the corners from going wonky. If the color change or thickness change was too extreme I just continued around until the next round and then did the change of direction when it was not so obvious. I found that having some continuous rows drew the eye there and helped disguise the other rows with change of direction.
Thank you so much for a great tutorial, I love the moss stitch but wanted to do something different to rows. I’ve started a blanket in a solid colour but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right as your pattern and video say to repeat round 3 to carry on with the blanket, can you tell me if when you turn at the end of each round should your first stitch always be in the ch2 corner or does the stitch change as the blanket grows?
Yes , the first stitch will always be in the corner if you're following the self-striping video . That way if you are working with self-striping yarn, the colors do not create a line up the side but the direction will change right at the corner. If you are working in all solids, you can follow the instruction in the video How to Crocht the Moss Stitch Rectangle Untwisted (ua-cam.com/video/wSvjkPEVMkc/v-deo.html). For solids this video show you how to change directions in the middle of the side. That line goes stright up the side because this is how you do it untwisted. If you are mixing solids stripes with self-striping yarn, work the solids stripes either way and switch over to the corner direction changes when you change to self-striping yarn. Let me know if you have more questions.
@@TwistedYarns thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I’ll give it another go, it probably had a lot to do with me trying a new pattern in the middle of the night, not the best idea.
I’ve just realised that I wrote my comment on the ‘square’ video when it’s a rectangle I’m trying to make, does that change things, could you please give me the link for that because I have total brain fog and I’m getting absolutely nowhere, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. You wouldn’t think I’ve been crocheting for almost 10 years. Please help
You entered the comment on the Self-striping video. The link for this is: ua-cam.com/video/NGdEZEskVeE/v-deo.html If you go to the description of the video there are timestamps so you can fast forward to different section (self-striping square or self striping rectangle). The Moss Stitch Rectangle- Untwisted video is ua-cam.com/video/wSvjkPEVMkc/v-deo.html and the Moss Stitch Square-Untwisted is ua-cam.com/video/20z-LV0MgZk/v-deo.html That should cover it!
Thank you, finally a clear explanation!I understood correctly 😊
I'm glad this was helpful! Thanks for watching!
