@@markoblagojevic56 until they inevitably break with double the service costs lol. Unless you live a very frivolous lifestyle (or just really enjoy having German cars, nothing wrong with that), most people should just stick to American and Japanese cars.
Something to note here. I've had quite a bit of time in the 45, RS3 and M2. The RS3 can technically be as fast as these cars but it needs 93/94+ octane (in US, this is NOT RON equivalent). 99% of pumps in California are 91 octane. If you put 91 octane in the RS3, it's actually pretty slow. That being said, if 91 octane is all you have, the 45 or M2 will be way faster than the RS3. I dislike how manufacturers are inconsistent with the octane that they use. It's not wrong to say that the RS3 is as fast or faster, but it's also required to use higher octane than its competition as well.
has it been reliable? (I'm asking because so many comments say it will break with all that hp, so thought you'd be in the best position to answer owning one)
I chose CLA45 this over the other two: RS3: Fastest straight line acceleration, nice gauge screen, super awkwardly small info screen, outdated exterior. M2: Most fun car since it comes with manual and RWD, but I live in Winnipeg so it’s not really ideal/fun, it’s also less practical since rear seats are not very usable, I do think this is the best looking car, if I live in no-snow area I will go with it. Cla45: better overall car. Most important reason: my wife said “absolutely no” to the other two and “yes” to CLA45 :D
The normal one simply shouldn't exist. The only way it is made is to fill a gap so they can charge higher price for the "S" without looking too expensive from the next model down.
@Peder Hansen Exactly. "Engine sound is mostly for the occupants, so instead of going with a valve piping real engine sound we synthesized fake overtones".
@@Gatz22 "lazy by doing this pathetic cheap alternative" You act like they have a choice. Either you get that or nothing. They arent allowed to make the car louder anymore so there isnt rlly a choice..
If you think the sound is artificial, it's all in your mind because it's literally a microphone aimed at the exhaust that plays through the speakers in real time.
I love my c63 AMG! Been super reliable and so far in the last few years hasn’t really cost me much beyond basic maintenance and gas (lots and lots of premium) plus my insurance isn’t much at all since I’m older now. But it’s not a car I will keep much longer. I made the mistake of putting 100 K plus miles on a Benz. Shit BLEW UP and I still owed 6 K on it. I upgrade every 75 K miles.
The reason these cars are so quiet from the outside is due to new emission regulations. The CLA45 does pump exhaust noise through the audio however it's not fake noise, it takes actual noise from the exhaust and amplifies that through the stereo which is why it sounds better than the CLA35 which is artificial noise.
Still would take the RS3 for the Inline 5 Cylinder. Not to mention that 5 can be tuned and is damn reliable. This Mercedes engine has yet to be proven but with high psi, I don’t expect this to last after the warranty expires
Seriously? Got any idea why merc made this engine ? Do you even know this engine is de-tuned? Do you even know mercedes was originally designing this 4 cyl engine for F1? well do your homework and see what the internals are made of. RS3 engine is no match for this engine.
Not everyone wants to modify the power. I rather keep my warranty and resale value; It voids the warranty and puts more stress on the internals. The RS3 is overpriced and has a terrible interior and exterior (it looks so cheap).
I mean 382 HP and 480 Nm of torque from a 4-cylinder engine is just nuts, and paired with that 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, that car is just so fast~ Mercedes-AMG knows what they're doing :)
Not really... I grew up in New Zealand, we had plenty of Japanese imports.. skylines, WRX, Evo's etc... there were many cars in the scene around 2005-2010 that were anywhere from 400-600 hp and used daily. Modified of course.. but most of the vehicles available to young guys back then were 4 cyl
Well it is standard on the S version. It sounds quite nice in my A45s, although it is sometimes indeed a bit to much. Many obviously talk shit about it, but with the OPF etc. which is due to the EU emission rules, there is only so much you can do for real noise out of a 2 liter. They didn’t bother making noise when standing still, like other brands do, like with the new golf R etc. Cause when you floor those, it also turns into a blowing sound and is nothing like the older models. So same goes with the new 45 compared to the old one. However there are aftermarket exhausts or custom things you can do. Take off the resonator and the pops are more crisp rather than muffled. But if you also bypass the rear muffler, it definitely gets quite a bit louder. Removing the OPF would be better, but in some cases it can give software errors and if you don’t want to lose your warranty straight away, by having to alter the software, it’s not the best thing to do. My resonator has been removed and I’m going to get a cutoff valve in front of the rear muffler. That way the car sounds louder when the extra valve is open, but when I close it, go back to the sound with the rear muffler. Although many people tell me to just remove the rear muffler all together, I wanna do this mainly because I don’t want to wake up other people and because they are starting to measure sound at some places to give you a fine, when your car is to loud... They even think about taking away your car for a while... So when I go to certain areas or when I see cops, I can close that valve xD For the rest I really love my car, except for a few details that are really a big fail. Android auto/apple carplay is a smaller size than the actual screen and can only be used with a wired connection. Which gives you the annoying problem that you can’t place your phone where it is supposed to, due to the cable sticking out in the back... Wireless charging is useless when you want to use apple carplay or android auto, since you have to use the cable anyway. And you can only use the usb port in the front to access those, cause the other usb ports won’t work for that, only for charging... Big design flaw imo
When you pop the hood on this bad boy after it leaves you stranded on the highway, you'll see on the engine cover 'Lease Central' Is joke, don't be mad
