If we do nothing, dementia will steal all of our ‘happily ever after’s’. For Shaheen, dementia stole a hugely important part of her life and her identity: her career.
Sadly, like many other carers, Shaheen had to face the difficult decision to give up a career she loved to become the full- time carer to her beloved mother, who lived with frontotemporal dementia.
A report we shared last year revealed the shocking impact dementia is having on women. Over two thirds of unpaid carers for people with dementia are women.
This wasn’t the life Shaheen had pictured for herself growing up. But research can change the ending and protect future generations from having to make the sacrifice.
