For those curious, Roy is called “Emblem”. Sakurai was going to include another Fire Emblem fighter before he chooses Roy. Some say Leif might have been the one to fill that spot.
Speaking of unused... I looked at Melee's ISO on Dolphin, and saw an audio file called "Akaneia.hps", it's most likely just the Fire Emblem Theme, but it's also more proof that the unused stage really was planned.
They actually are in the data of the game and can be found in the debug menu akaenia and icetop, trying to load akaenia crashes the game. For icetop it is possible to force the game to load it but you end up with a music less icicle mountain
I'm guessing Roy and Ganondorf were late additions to the roster, therefore they don't show up as opponents in Classic mode. Ganondorf can show up as an ally, but Roy doesn't show up anywhere. Sheik can be fought, Zelda has to transform into her, She will never start as Sheik.
If I had to guess, by the time Sakurai wrapped up the design of the last characters (including those two, which are clones), the game was too close to its release and couldn't fill the remaining gaps anymore)
I was trying to come up with 1-syllable nicknames for every character that came up, but I couldn't find one for Pichu. It's either "Pich" which sounds like "Peach" or "chu" which is Pikachu's nickname... I guess Pikachu could be "Peek"
These aren't unused, and especially not for All-Star. These intros are for classic mode if there if there is only one fighter. *I understand that everyone makes mistakes... for example, why am i commenting on a video from 2013 in 2015?* *...oh well, who cares anyway. :P*
Blazekick'n As far I remember, the portraits are different on the Classic mode (before Nintendo started placing the same piece of artwork on the entire game [SSB4]). Check the ones from Classic. And just look closely on the Debug Menu "ALLSTAR_ENEMY", why this wouldn't be for All-Star? And I just checked a playthrough and compared both Mario portraits from here and the video. The pose is completely different, not forgetting that the Classic has the path icons, the stage number, the names, the "VS" and the enemy portrait, which is something that does not appear in here. Of course, since this is unused, this was probably left long ago, so this probably is a beta version of what it would be.
***** I guess that makes sense. After looking at the video a bit closer, the debug menu does state that this is for All-Star mode, and the poses are a bit different from their normal classic appearances (it's been a while since I played melee so I didn't notice before.) Also - I assumed that acessing the cutscene from the debug menu removed all those extra icons (path, "vs" icon, etc.), but i'm willing to assume that you did some experimentation and found otherwise. *And on a side note, I actually wasn't expecting you to reply to my comment, considering the fact that - again - this video was made over two years ago. :D*
Blazekick'n Well, I don't remember how it looks if I access the Classic cutscenes from the debug menu, but I suppose it looks the same. There is no point to show the stage and the All-star progress on the screen, as it's done by the earliest to the newest games (Or is it inverse?), and, since the All-Star in melee is only one character (which I prefer, having multiple characters in screen is just too difficult for one player [That happens in SSB4, I don't remember in Brawl]) only one character is shown. And, a side note about being beta, just take a look of how off the images look, some aren't even properly centered, the best example is Bowser. Well, this video is one of most watched ones, I read most of people comments, but I don't reply all of them. I usually only replies when it's a question or something that needs to be discussed, like yours.
+Blazekick'n I would also say that you don't have Ganondorf as an enemy in classic mode, so there is at least one of these that are really unused. ...That was a little contribution, thanks thanks.

In Classic mode, you see the portrait of the Ice Climbers together, but not from each character (Popo and Nana). There's an extra entry for just "popo" on these unused All-Star openings, probably they meant to just one character from each "climber" to show up for each section.
Alphabetical order in Japanese, with all unlockable characters at the end besides Mr. G&W, who was put in the G’s in alphabetical order. The reason why Bowser came before the Mario Bros and not as the 1st character is because Bowser’s name in Japanese is just Koopa.

Jeesh it would be cool to have all star intros to start of competitive matches. Hopefully they have that in Smash5.
I like this All-Star better because of its Rest Area. All nice and green. Brawl gives you that cave ( I like the cave, but I like the Melee rest area better).
THAT NOSTALGIA.
These are used in Classic, excluding Sheik, Roy, and Ganon. Now a good question would be, why were they unused?
@gabrielwojcikiewicz
I meant that it may show the loading screens if you burn them to a disk and play it on the wii, because it loads.
I like the all-star poses better than the regular ones..well almost all of them
I Would've Been Cool To See This In The Final...
Whats Glitched Popo?
On the debug menu, you can choose any character for those intros. There is Popo, Nana and I think there was also Ice climbers, I think Nana loads the model just right, since the game doesn't let the computer use 1 single ice climber, it doesn't show anything at all.
Could you isolate each character's individual portrait? I would really like them because my texture hacks change their texture on the portrait.
