    I’m working my first chart with cables, but it didn’t make sense until I saw this video. I didn’t realize that the chart was always facing on the right side. Your video helped tremendously when I understood that part of charts! Now I should be able to complete my sweater.

    Always, thank you. I look for your name when I am confused. I was reading a chart as a flat pattern, when it was actually a circular. I was also reading it vertically, rather than horizontally because that was how it was printed. You provide the best instructions!

    Wow where was your channel when I was stationed in Turkey for a year. This has answered so many of my knitting questions; everything I know about knitting I am self taught.

    Hi Suzanne.... I went to my local fibre shop and picked up beautiful wool for a simple cable scarf that the owner printed off of Ravelry. There is NO chart. It's line by line instructions. ( I'm doing a draft of the pattern, because I'm a beginner knitter.). There are 20 stitches that I've cast on and I've completed the set-up rows. Row 1 of the pattern says: p1, k1, p1, k1, p3, C3F, p3, k1, p1, k1, p1. So I used my cable needle to cable 3 and brought them forward. What do I do with the C3F when I'm finished the p3? Are they supposed to be purled? And how come there are only 17 stitches all together? The rest of the rows all have 20 stitches. I'm at a loss. I think there is an error in the pattern. Your explanation of chart reading is superb!

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  Рік тому +1

      I believe the C3F is a 3 over 3 cable, Bring 3 to the front, knit 3 from the left needle, knit the 3 from the cable needle.

    I have been toying with creating my own chart. What software do you recommend?

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  Рік тому

      If you have excel or numbers, you can chart in those. I have a Mac, so I like StitchMastery. But have used spreadsheet software too. I think there are discussions on Ravelry that you could check into for more information.

    Give me a chart anytime. I find them so much easier to understand than row by row descriptions. 💕

    sorry for being new, but how can you start knitting on the left, when after you cast on, your first stitch is on the right end of the needle?

    • @SuzanneBryan
      @SuzanneBryan  4 роки тому +1

      What a great question. After you cast on, if all of the stitches are on the right needle, you then turn the right needle and put it in the left hand, ready to knit. The first row an be either a right side row or a wrong side row depending on the pattern you are working. I hope this answers your question, if not, please ask again.

    I don’t get it. When on earth did this happen. It’s not so long since I knitted cable without this complexity.
    I have to buy vintage patterns to get what I grow up with: A written explanation for each row.
