Fantastic videos! Of all the content, these really focus on demo rather than verbal explanations and hence so easy to practice. Thank you for the efforts in coming up great stuff for all of us! Cheers
Best instructional video I have seen. I’m definitely guilty of using way too much pressure on the grips and not nearly enough in the knees especially with this big bike. I have now my 890. I am going to practice this “active riding”. Ty!
Great video!👌 Balance is the most important thing. I learned that from the beginning. Great exercise for balance practice. I will try some day. Thanks for sharing.
I can't thank you enough for this video. However I have few questions: 1. Can you use this technique in rain as well? Or you suggest leaning yourself while keeping the bike upright as a better option? 2. Can we lean ourselves instead of standing up in off-road while keeping bike vertical? 3. Are we counter leaning to keep bike as vertical as possible? 4. Till what speed can we drive when driving off-road?
Glad you found the video helpful! These counterbalance techniques are for handeling an ADV bike in off road riding environments at slower speeds. If a bike is traveling faster, you can lean with the bike to get it to turn, especially on asphalt. The goal with counterbalancing is to allow the bike to lean in order to make a turn (at slower speeds) and to be able to quickly react to help settle the bike when experiencing one of those unexpected whobbles when riding off road.
I realize that answering on this public forum might not be desirable. So let me chance an answer... Will a steering stabilizer on an Africa Twin assist with riding sand road, sand wash on gravel road and water crossings?
The answer to your question is yes. A stabilizer will make a bike feel more secure when the front tire is deflecting off rocks, and ruts when riding on gravel roads, sand roads, and through water crossings. This added stability can make holding onto the handlebars easier as well. Stabilizers can be extremely helpful to balance out high-speed wobbles when riding at top speed for long distances in sand. However, most of us are not riding full-speed Dakar style on these bigger bikes. One of the hardest parts for a rider to learn when riding in sand is to become comfortable with allowing the front wheel to squirm around and then allow it to settle back in a straight line. There are many riding techniques that you can learn that will assist you with this process. Bike setup/ergonomics is also very important in helping with this as well (handlebar height and angle). Tire pressure is also important. For me, I found investing time and effort into developing my fundamental riding skills to be the most important factor in helping me Ride With Confidence. Whether you should invest in one or not… is a personal decision.
Pregunta.
Google Translated from: Thank you for your question. In off-road adventure riding, we often us both sitting position & standing position to better manage the different riding surfaces (dirt, sand, rocks, rivers, etc). In this video, we are purposely practicing the technique of standing riding posture and active balance to help make us better riders when off-road. For riders who do not go off-road & do not want to learn the standing position, then this motorcycle agility course can definitely be performed in sitting position for practicing tight cornering. The benefits of standing position in off-road riding include improved lean angle of bike in lower speed/loose traction, ability to transfer body weight from side to side, legs can be shock absorbers on bumpy trails, & taller line of vision to see your surroundings.
Thanks for the question Stefan. Like many aspects of riding there is a lot of “personal preferences” and differing options as to “what is best”. It is good to try many different settings to get a feeling how the bike responds and develop what YOU like best.
On these agility courses my 2016 GS is set with the suspension on 1 up and on the soft setting. My legs are not very long and I like to be able to be able to get a foot down quickly if needed for a foot dab. Also it is set on Enduropro with traction control and ABS shut off and tires at 2 bar/29psi.
On most off road conditions I bump the suspension to 1 up with luggage and still in the soft setting (I have old knees) for a little more clearance to ride over obstacles. On bigger obstacles/rocky sections I will put it to 2 up suspension, ride past the obstacle and then lower again to a more comfortable setting.
@@advmotoskillz Thank you for your reply. As a new GS owner I find your channel and experience invaluable. I look forward to experimenting with the different rider modes and suspension settings you mention. Best, Stefan
Hi Gerardo. The arrows are actually meant to show a "shift" in body weight for the purpose of counterbalancing the bike. The direction of the arrow point highlights the body weight shift that was demonstrated. It was not our intent to imply a gear shift, as we would include numbers and and specifiy "gear" in those cases. 🤝Apologies for any confusion and thank you for asking. We will aim to be more clear in future videos.
