I play electric violin, and bought the DD200 on the strength of this demo. I absolutely adore this pedal. It works great with my other favorite, the Strymon Big Sky.
Electric violin player here too. Have you found that you see great guitar pedal reviews, but often when you try them on a violin, they just don't sound how you'd like? I've tried loads of single delay pedals, and so far the Boss DD line are my favourite of the digital ones, just great clarity, and the MXR Carbon Copy the best of the analog ones. I was going to get a second DD-3 or 8 standalone, but the DD-200 seems so well featured without being too complex, and I assume it will have the really clear Boss digital delay sound as the standalone pedals. Is yours still working out well for you in your setup? Big Sky looks nice, but recently saw the review of the Cloudburst, so maybe in the future :)
It's always a good day when we get to hear Rabea demo a full-featured delay pedal. Here's hoping we get a full album of ambient stuff at some point, 'cause I love Bea's playing on these.
What a pleasant surprise. I've been a fan of yours for a few years now; heard about (and purchased) your Grinding Gears albums and Toska soon thereafter. I'm a Saxophone Professor and I want to start doing some live-looping. I was recommended this pedal and your video was the 1st to pop up. Stoked! Thanks for making such great music, Rabea.
The MD200 & DD200 are phenomenal pieces of kit and you made the most of the latter in this demo. Perfect gigging and recording tools. Controls are intuitive, no need to go into crazy deep-dive menu shenanigans just to find a new sound. Price is not outrageous. Well done Boss and 'Bea!
Firstly, enjoyable review. Secondly, THANK YOU for being honest about the sponsorship at the beginning. For me it really increases the utility of the review as, ironically, it means I can trust you more.
I didn’t even know this pedal existed! It’s basically an updated dd-20 which I love - almost identical feature set with just 2-3 extra controls and some different algorithm choices, just in a much nicer looking and more compact package. The dd-500 just made things way too complicated, but this is more like it. But I’m finding it hard to justify going from the dd-20 to this since it’s not that different, and my 20 is built like a freaking tank and I just have no idea if they still make their pedals as well these days. If anyone has input on that I would appreciate
Cheers Rabea ,Personally I think that Boss is one of the best Guitar Tech companies around....I've owned numerous Boss effects over the years the latest being a Boss GT 1000 which is an Awesome piece of kit. Not one piece of gear I've owned over the years has ever broken down not one. I still own and use a Roland VS880 which is a division of Boss, I bought it when it first came out in 1996! Which cost £1900 and is still going strong to this day ,Not one part of it has needed to be changed.
I’m very happy with this pedal. Your demos are great and Inspiring. Gives me great ideas to expand on. Thanks for your hard work and showing us the potential of this pedal
Great demo expertly laid out with his pedal can do wholeheartedly agree with you… It’s simple we can caught up in being programming nerds and we don’t play guitar
I put on this video early in the morning and then went back to sleep. My dog opened the door and a sudden ray of light came a hit me right on the eyes, so I opened them a little and hallucinated a skimo person playing the electric guitar with an epic big lush sound. 10/10 must buy this pedal because of hallucinated skimo Rebea
Cheers Rabea, I got one several months ago. Fantastic bit of kit, as with all Boss. Im not good with anything tecno, but this is well manageble even for me due to its simplicity. Just got the new waza PB W1. Again Fantastic.
Never, ever disappointed by your reviews Bea! As soon as I heard about this series I was hoping you were going to be doing an in depth review. Inspired playing, informative etc. Keep it up!
the SHIMMER ECHO is just fantastic - I never used anything other than a bit of reverb when playing solo guitar pieces but this one is a game changer for me :)
sounds amazing! I like the look of it as well... seems no nonsense, kind of vintage 80's to me, but really quality build and packed with all up to date technology of course.
Love your playing just ordered one Hope i like it dd 200 looks good ,I'm used to my strymon dig I think you and Rob are good Guys and killer players Thanks !!!
Good video. Well explained. I'm only missing comparison of min / max "parameter" and "modulation" value especially of tera echo which for me deserved for more time in this video... but, I'm still close to buy it. It has so many features I'm looking in stomoboxes and what missed in previous DD's. Good job Rabea, great work Boss.
Really loved this one!!! 18:59 was an amazing groove. Couldn't stop banging my head with the super tempo that you have created!!! That is incredible flexibility!!! Thanks for this nice review!!!
Very nice review! I have 2 of them, I think they are just as good as the strymon timeline. Your video made my purchase of them justified! 😁 your playing gives me all kinds of ideas! There are no musicians around me so I really enjoy the people on you tube I selected to subscribe to! Keep up the awesome reviews! 🍻
Can somebody explain the dual delay? I get its a percentage of the original delay....but....if I have a quarter note delay set then put the parameter knob on 75, that equals a quarter note delay plus a ? delay? At 50 would equal a quarter note delay plus a ? Etc.... Is there a chart somewhere with this info?
Okay, it contains tera echo too but is it the same if I'd buy a separate tera echo pedal? Does it contain all feature of it? If so it is unnecessary to buy a DD-8 and a TE-2 as together they are much more expensive than te DD200
What i want to know is if I get a GT-1000 will it do all these same things and sound just as good? I've been debating getting a DD-200 and and OD-200 but with those 2 i'm already half the price of a GT-1000 that I'm sure does way more other stuff too but I really just want what those two pedals have to offer and would hate to spend more and not be as good at those things.
I thoroughly enjoy your vedioes/ demos. Does Boss allow for true played to beta test th se modules b fore they are produced for the public. I would love to sign up. Lol. Help them work out any possible bugs so the potential customers are as happy as can be with their hard earned purchase. I received my md-200 and couldn't be happier. I am now searching for an overdrive /distortion to accentuate some of the sounds but with not so much bite that it takes away from the true nature of the song itself. Just enough to give some gritty breath. Any ideas?
Was that picking just before and after 11mins a real song? If not I think that'd make a really cool intro or theme for a song. Would love to hear more of your original jam/instrumental full mixes/demos. Also have you seen that midi guitar controller Mary spender just made a video about?
Sounds great, and as always your playing is full of feel and greatly appreciated, but at £219, if my interface with this is a 3 digit LED, then no, not at that price. The Mooer Ocean Machine is a little cheaper, with much more info on the LCD, MIDI, etc, and in this day and age, they all sound good enough to me.
Yeah I get that. I think they’re aimed at different players though? I feel like the ocean machine is probably for those that really like to fine tune and get atmospheres going with all sorts of the weird Fx it has in it. Whereas the DD-200 feels like it’s designed to have those 4 presets ready to go for more straight forward delay purposes, but is expandable and can be used more in depth if you need to. Boss seem to always supply more than you need, just in case you need it. Don’t know if that makes any sense at all, but I see these as two very different pedals
@@RabeaMassaad Makes perfect sense, and I do see what you mean about them being aimed at different players. I guess I'm someone who needs that bit more info :O)
Awesome demo! By the way I haven't seen that cool relic strat Rita in a while. Do you still have it? I loved the dorje guitar of the day episode on that one!
Hey man, thanks for this vid, very informative. My only Q: in the official Boss video you say that MIDI can be used to tempo sync, however, there's nothing in the manual about that, or indeed anywhere on the internet that I can see! Any ideas at all mate?
I already spoke to a rep for boss from my local music store, they said not at this time. I figured the boss RV-500 is still fairly new, so maybe they may make one by spring or summer namm!. Maybe! 👍
The DD500 taught me there is such thing as too many options. But this thing seems just about right for an all encompassing delay pedal. Very intuitive, like the underrated DD20. That said, my trusty DD5 has been a tough delay to beat after all these years. Looking forward to trying the DD8
As a owner of dd-200 could You tell me when you turn the parameter and modulation knobs all way down it doesn't mean ZERO parametr or modulation? You can still hear the background sounds or turns it off?
Burak Eren it is a true stereo pedal but i am not sure if there can be alternate panning. there are two stereo outs though and i think you can tweak each seperate channel so with enough fiddling you could probably get a ping pong effect.
It's not 100% true stereo - It sums to mono to generate the delay trails. But it obviously preserves each channel for the dry output. True stereo is pretty rare outside of the mega-expensive units.
I have seen may videos about DD200 and DD500 and nobody talks about changing delays or changing presets, I want to know what happen if you play with one nice ambient shimmering sweet long delay and you need to change to another patch or presser or change your memory bank to another one either pressing the switch or via MIDI. Does your last ambient shimmering sweet long delay still there until vanish with the delay decay and mix your sound with the new patch, or that delay cuts abruptly off and is replaced with the new delay?? I guess it is called carryover.
I would get sooo carried away with this baby. So carried away. Like maybe... Boss calls me angrily: hey dude, you should have been here four hours ago!!! Me: errm, yeah well I ummm... got delayed... Boss: delayed?!? Get your butt over here in fifteen or you can kiss your job goodbye! Me: right... I just got to tweak some parameters first... Boss: Parameters??? You know what, sod the fifteen, you're fired!!!

Got this for Christmas today 2021. Played it for a couple of hours & already blown away. Awesome pedal.
DD-200 might be my favorite pedal ever.
Really hoping for an RV-200. C’mon Boss, the RV-6 just doesn’t cut it these days.
fi huned
Check out the RV-500 !
My RV-5 does all I want now in 2024. But I am also more of a stacking delay type of person so a milder reverb is all I need.
Firstly, enjoyable review. Secondly, THANK YOU for being honest about the sponsorship at the beginning. For me it really increases the utility of the review as, ironically, it means I can trust you more.
Hey Rabea, you’re killin it lately with all high quality content! Restecpa 🤘🏻😎

Awesome Demo!! Love'd that brief *Star Wars bit lol
"Patterns" had me in a trance..sounded insane.

I was wondering about a Space-echo but for a little extra the DD-200 does that and more.

I heard Rabea drinks the stuff. Sometimes straight up or with a splash of milk in Good British fashion
Your vids are the best!
Gosh, everything you play with delay reminds me of karnivool or dead letter circus.
Love your artistry...even when noodling around
Hi guys, is it possible to change the delay speed in bpm on the little screen?
I want to hear this forever
Thanks for the in-deep review nice video!
Sounds like a great pedal! Great for Edge type work.

Having the reverb on messes up the representation of the pedal. Now I don't know what the pedal alone sounds like.

Does the DD-200 have trails ? so when you stop the pedal the effect continues to fade out ?

Can you get a Brian May sort of delay from that?
Cool!
