I've been telling friends and colleagues for years, who are interested in getting into the apple ecosystem, that the barrier to entry is very low. You just have to seek out an older used or refurbished device. New and innovative devices are cool and all, but Apple's product support goes back 6,7, maybe even 8 years. Even today I use a 2012 Mac mini that I've since upgraded with more RAM and flash storage, alongside my M1 iPad Pro that is nearing 3 years old. Just goes to show that if you come to terms with your needs and expectations, you'll find what you need at an affordable price.
