6 years 😂😂boy how old are you? 12? To me it feels like the Penske Mercedes motor won just yesteryear! The 80s and 90s (and of course the following until today) Indycar bodystyle is still what I call „the modern“ cars. Somewhat old looking to me are the wedge shaped turbo cars from the 70s, but true old and vintage to me are the classic Indy roadsters which are now about *60* years old and not *6* !
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial You're dramatically underestimating the speeds at which oval crashes occur if that's what you think. The reason these drivers walk away from such devastating wrecks, even compared to F1, is because the cars are designed explicitly to remain structurally sound through multiple 180+ MPH impacts.
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial None of these look like the worst Indy has had. Wickens at Pocono is probably the worst I've seen in any series, that or Kenny Brack's record-setting catch fence visit. It doesn't help that the camera tends to cut out right on impact and we don't have the external view to give the full context of the crash. Sidenote, a Grosjean-type crash literally can't happen in Indycar, purely down to the amount of fuel carried and the lack of armco barriers to hit.
@@griffinfaulkner3514 I would add the oval shape of a speedway help A LOT because the car is just "gently" sliding on the wall, gradually dissipating it speed.

What's interesting is I believe the same driver (james hinchcliffe) got hit in the head with some debris at the 2014 indy road course race, to which he sustained a concussion. Fortunately it wasn't too bad as he was able to race shortly after, but the same would happen to Justin Wilson a year later at Pocono, which would unfortunately have a much different result...
The most terrifying feeling in racing is not being in control. You’re just passenger and there’s nothing you can do. Brake failure or stuck in the middle of the track and you can’t move, and you know what’s coming.
They shouldn't, unless the cockpit broke, but the car has to be built with that in mind. If the car is upside down in any orientation the drivers head can't touch the ground
This video doesn't show the full crash, look up texas crash josef newgarden and you should see the full thing (it's way worse than you think he fainted after)

They did it temporally because there was multiple flips before this during the other practice sessions and then this which almost killed the driver (the metal piece sticking out went through his leg)
I feel so old watching those crashes like they happened two or three years ago, when it's already over six
Maybe its just me but they feel so vintage without the Aeroscreen halo thing

I like in the third one they start giving each other hand gestures in synch like they are communicating lol like "come on!" "no! you come on!"
Jesus, on the first one it looked like the tyre bounced into the cockpit and hit him in the face.
Thank god for the aero screen.
