Any of the Human Trafficking shows are scary bc it really happen too
I think they should do an episode based on Albert Fish bcz he is a vicious serial killer
Chris Brown Case against Katy Perry
Funny Valentine.
I've found that I have to take breaks from SVU. I LOVE this show but sometimes it's a little too much! Well written and wonderful acting!
Wow! I do the exact same thing, I thought I was the only one 🤣
Yes, I'm in the middle of a break from it right now as well because of the Season 2, Episode 5 "Baby Killer" one. That one absolutely breaks my heart, especially with how the world is nowadays. 💔
Me too
Me too Im like halfway through a season and I just had to take a break bc it was getting to a point where I couldn't sleep anymore 😭
I totally understand that.
You know you watch too much True Crime when you know exactly where they got each episode idea without MsMojo telling you 😂
I’m a criminology major and as I was reviewing some cases for classes I remembered svu episodes and I thought to myself “uhhh, that’s similar to that episode”
yeah second this opinion...🙋💫💛
Yep!
Yep
Damn straight🤪
23 seasons in and still one of the best shows out there! A must watch!
yessss 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
Do you know where to watch it if you live in Europe?
@@defschoice4254 Hulu🥰
I still watch the show and will until the end. I don't like nearly as many episodes as I used to. Season 22 was disappointing for me. I ended up liking 2 episodes overall. I thought season 23 was much better.
The show has become predictable though. I liked when I couldn't predict what was probably going to happen.
My favorite show!!
The fascinating thing about the Kitty Genovese case is that we still study it in psychological settings and in social psych, because the bystander effect has been studied further and it IS real, but it's strange that it comes from a case where it actually wasn't in play - since it's not true that no one helped her.
Someone in this situation should select someone in the crowd and tell them you need help.
“You!! In the sweatshirt!”
@@LadyOfMaine That's a good idea, but I'm not sure how it would work in real situations. For example, if someone has a gun, calling out a certain individual puts their life at risk. There has to be a way to do it in relative secrecy.
@@LadyOfMaine That’s not remotely realistic
We thought of Robin Williams as a comedian, but he was a brilliant, Julliard-trained dramatic actor who could have stepped into the lead in Macbeth or Hamlet on Broadway without missing a beat! I wish they'd continued this episode for another week or two and let Williams shine.
His kind comes along once in a generation. Damn, but I miss him.
He was in Hamlet as a side actor
Kenneth branaugh version 1996
@@cynthialesieur643 THANK YOU!! I'll try to find it.
@@krisaaron5771 you're welcome he was with Billy crystal
One of Robin's best roles!
“He’s really sorry” sniff sniff
Yeah that’s why he did it 5 times and to 4 of his sisters….
He's really sorry he got caught.
Yeah never trust families like that.
Man when I watched the documentary and found out he also had child 🌽 on his laptop at work an the family trying to cover it up. This man/thing was even married. How the wife didn’t know, how she must feel omg it was crazy and I remember watching this show as a kid thinking man I want a lot of kids to seeing what happened behind the scene and how they are in a cult 🤯
The season 4 episode, "Damaged", and the season 6 episode, "Pure", both have elements of The Ken & Barbie Murders from Canada that were committed by former spouses Paul Bernado & Carla Hamulka. The season 9 episode with legendary guest star, Robin Williams, entitled "Authority", is based on the real-life Milgrim experiments. And, the season 16 episode, "December Solstice", is in part loosely inspired by the events surrounding the death of legendary radio DJ and voice of Shaggy from the SCOOBY DOO cartoons, Casey Kacium, guest starring actress Marcia Cross.
That one with robin williams is outstanding. Made me want to go watch all his other movies just how well he took on that character for only a single episode. I didn’t want it to end
@@pdubcentral That really was a great episode for the character Robin Williams played was soo good with the dark drama, it was a bit scary. My only complaint on that episode is that with the involvement of Robin Williams, Dick Wolf and the writers of the show easily could have expanded that story to create a 2 part episode special event. The only other role that Robin Williams did that freaked me out more than his SVU character was the character that he played in the 2002 film starring opposite Al Pacino, Insomnmia.
My sister had said that, the season 6 episode “Pure”: she had instantly thought of Karla Hamulka and Paul Bernardo.
it blew my mind; because I had to think about it for a few minutes and realizing that she was correct.
The first part of “Authority” was also based on the Kentucky McDonald’s hoax call.
The Law and Order episode “Fools in love” episode did a crossover with SVU and it is based on the Ken and Barbie killers, that includes the “perfume samples scene”
The actor for "Holden’s Manifesto” just blew me away. He really managed to mimic how the guy from the real case spoke in his videos too..
the way he mimicked the original murderer and used it for his character was brilliant
I recognised that episode of SVU with the twins who were raised as a boy and girl. I remember reading about the Reimer's case in my psychology classes. What really impressed me about the episode was not just the performance of the actor playing the brother, but also the actor playing the 'sister,' who were one and the same. It was the same actor, playing both twins. Was a great performance!
The Duggar inspired episode is one of my favorites. My favorite is that Rollins loves the SVU version of 19 kids and counting and spends her “desk duty” (due to her close to giving birth)job rewatching the episodes to figure out any pattern.
And the bro ends up getting caught for being a child predator. He can rot in hell for all I care.
That episode was very interesting but also very creepy at the same time
Is my favorite one also!
The Dugger family episode is one of my favorites. Instead of the brother being accused of sexual assaulting his sister, it's the family's own preacher that is caught and taken to jail.
Is my favorite one also!! I just commented about it!
That episode made me so mad!!!! The parents infuriated. I wanted to tear those parents a new one.
The best part was when he was arrested right as he was about to MARRY the girl he’d assaulted.
I'm so glad that Benson's character and actress got to have a baby, she had always wanted to have one.
I’d like to note, because they didn’t say it, science has found that gaming has no causation or correlation to violent crime.
True. They just use tv, movies, books and games as a scapegoat.
I bet the research was sponsored by EA Games.
@@trevormillar1576 it was not. It’s been studied by universities multiple times over the years. Data is consistent.
I know officially number 16 is based on the Nicole Kach case, but I also felt it has a lot in common with the Sophie Lionnet case. It's a really heartbreaking case of a nanny who was basically imprisoned by her delusional employer who eventually murdered her.
Did they charge Sophie’s killers
@@sneakysasquatch6014 yeah, but I don't remember the entire story. I bet some true crime UA-camr did an episode about the case if you want more details.
@@mikagrossmann5370 thank u
it’s actually based on colleen stan. i’m not sure where they got it was based on that girl.
@@ginachuu I think it´s a mix between all of those cases...
I remember when I first learned of the Gypsy case, I LOATHED Dee Dee so much. She reminded me of an ex-family member. When I also learned that Gypsy only had a few years left, I practically jumped for joy. I wish Gypsy a great life outside of prison and I hope she can recover from the trauma she suffered
Shes apparently going a little nuts from the freedom, but honestly, she hasnt done any other crimes from what ive heard, so good for her
The one that Hillary duff was in was like the Casey Anthony's case in many ways....just started to watch this video so I am not sure yet if it was on this list. I noticed several episodes ripped from the headlines but no complaints on my end. It's interesting to see how they do it and have there own twists to it.
The fact that Chris Brown still made the top music charts after his abuse was known is just depressing and horrifying.
It was ALL Caused By Childhood Trauma And Some Other Girl in 2008😭😭🙏🙏😭😭I KNOW CHRIS BROWN is NOT A Monster
Yes he is & anybody who defends him is pathetic
What You Just Said Was HEARTBROKEN😭
@@andreahenry3473 Some other girl made Chris Brown beat Rhianna?
@@andreahenry3473yes. Chris Brown is a monster and honestly he doesn’t deserve to have the career he has. The fact that there are people like you defending him is disgusting.
One case i forget I remember the svu episode name but the actual case was the case of Patricia Stalling, a woman who was accused of poisoning her baby with anti freeze and when really her baby had a rare genetic condition and died.
The kid playing the Elliot Rodgers type guy had his weird way of speaking down pat. He completely nailed it!
This is exactly why svu is my favorite show.
That was horrible! I couldn’t believe she actually got away with it.
Slaves also had elements of the story of Colleen Stan, AKA "the girl in the box." Surprised the episode entiltled Signature didn't make the list. It drew heavily from the Toybox killer
This show will never stop running because it will never run out of ideas.
You're missing an important information about the real story of the twins. They both unalived themselves later on in their lives. In 2002 Brian (twin that grew up as a boy) unalived himself. In 2004 David (twin that was forced to be a girl) and Jane separated, and David unalived himself as well. He was 38 years old.
"unalived" thanks tiktok user
@@trustedroot I'm not a tiktok user. I just know how censorship works lol. If I said the real thing I would have gotten pushed aside in the comments section by mods and I don't want this important fact to get lost. UA-cam is as bad as tiktok my guy.
Unalived??
@@mztpar thanks for both the information & clarification. I first thought it was a new process for something.
oh my god
There really needs to be a special video that not only covers the top 20 episodes that were based on real-life cases, but have it be 100 episodes from SVU that were based on real-life cases.
Dee Dee and Gypsy reminds me of the 2020 movie Run, too. Where a mother looses her baby in the hospital, then kidnaps another baby girl that looked like her and drugged her for years.
I've never heard of that movie but I'm going to check it out is it based off a true story?
Is that the one where the daughter figures out that the medication bottle has a different label? She calls strangers to ask them to look up what the medication is used for/ escapes a movie and finds a pharmacy to ask about it?? That movie was so good! The title is ironic (if it’s the same movie) because she is in a wheelchair.
@@kathyburton4372 I do believe that is the same movie the op is talking about
@@georgia8592 yeah, it's based off Gypsy and Dee Dee.
Isn’t the daughters real name Kaylee or something like that?
Im convinced whomever did kill jon banet ramsey had to be one of the family members or friend of the relatives
I think it was her brother
I think it was the mother and her brother
Me too
Either the brother could have been a jealous hater and snapped and ended up killing his younger sister or she wetted her bed and her mother was pissed off and lunged at her daughter
I think it was her brother and the parents tried to cover it all up
Such sad cases. Horrifying what humanity is capable of, but I have to believe there's more good and love than the other.
This is a fantastic show.
I remember watching some episodes in middle school with my mom. She really monitored closely which episodes she would let me and my sister watch. She was a former psychologist. I remember being horrified with some of the episodes. But now I am not shocked much by what people are capable of. In fact I expect it. What surprises me is when people are kind, courteous and help people who are in need. You don't see that as much anymore.
@@ashleydowney1222 so true, unfortunately.
I've ALWAYS loved SVU! The one that inspired me to get rid of an old space heater was the one where a man was falsely accused of purposely burning down a house for insurance & killing 2 kids in the process!
A man in Texas, Cameron Todd Willingham, was executed after being accused of purposely setting fire to his home to kill his children. Unfortunately, the majority of “evidence” was junk science and it’s believed that an innocent man was put to death.
This is who it’s based on.
Don't forget Josh Duggar is now in prison for viewing CP !!
Slender Man episode of SVU was better than the slender man movie.
Idk I hate it when they blame a movie or video game for committing a crime.
SVU has got to be the greatest show for guests stars 💗
The whole Law & Order franchise is full "before they were famous" guest stars.
I remember watching a French version of the pregnancy pact, it definitely had a more realistic view on it. The naivete of teens, the jealousy, the drama, the reactions from parents and school they attended. But I had to take a long break from SVU after the 11th season.
I live in Gloucester MA; I can tell you that the pregnancy pact was real. The tragedy here is not about violent rape or incest or pedophelia, its that these young girls really saw no other options, could not imagine a bigger life.
Bc u were mourning the loss of stabler..and I get that!
I found the beauty pageant constant crime very inspirational from an episode of Law & Order: SVU, because it was based on a real-life case which involved a real live murder of a missing beauty pageant constant.
Prayers and love for all of these victims...🥺💗
They've also covered 2 famous cases from Italy: Yara Gambirasio (the killer was found through the DNA of his real father, a bus driver) and the very famous worldwide Meredith Kercher/Amanda Knox case.
The JonBenet Ramsey episode was one of the first episodes I remember ever watching a very long time ago when I was a teenager.
I haven’t watched SVU in a while, but every case is intriguing.
The slenderman one was hard to read about. That girl got lucky several times. Her two "friends" were originally going to kill her in her own home during a birthday slumber party. I think while she slept. They backed out of it though. Then (I think the next day) they went out to play and stopped at a park. In the bathroom, the "friends" try to see if they could knock her out by hitting her head against the wall. It doesn't work and they play it off like they accidently hit her or something along those lines. Then they finally decide to kill her in the woods. Poor girl got uncomfortable, but they managed to get her out there. Then they forced her to lie down when she didn't want to. Of the many times they stabbed her, according to the doctor, one stab came within a hair's length away from a main artery in her heart. If they would have hit that, she would have died within minutes if not less. Then after leaving her for dead, she manages to crawl out of the woods and a biker just happened to be passing by.
Watching the tapes of the two "friends" after they are caught very shortly after walking down the highway, is disturbing. They could have cared less and one was dancing and playing. Then the shock on their faces when they realized the girl had survived. They tried to act and claim innocence, but it was very obvious they wanted her dead and were surprised that she was still alive. The poor girl has so much trauma now and sleeps with scissors under her pillow. I am not sure what happened at the end of the case, but I think both of the "friends" ended up in jail.
The Rihanna and Chris Brown case hits home. I am a Survivor of Domestic Violence.
Sending love💝
@@jennibennecke669 thank you. I am okay.
@@anar8343 thank you. I am doing okay. It's been a long time since then.
it hits home for far to many of us....sadly.
Even though I have not been in the same situation I remember that episode being heartbreaking. Especially with the way it ended
Surprised they didn’t mention the episode “Sick” (S5E19) based off the Michael Jackson cases of alleged pedophilia
That was the first one that came to my mind and they missed it.
Really I didn't know that episode was based off the Michael Jackson cases of alleged pedophilia I learned something new today
Is that the episode where a toy store owner named Billy Tripley was sexually abusing kids dying of Cancer?
I remember hearing about kitty genovese a few years ago I was totally shocked learning what happened
The problem is that the newspaper lied about no one coming to her aide. Multiple people called the cops and the ones who heard the attack but couldn't see where it was happening yelled at the attacker to leave her alone and that the cops were coming. One woman even held her and comforted her as she lay dying.
I've been addicted to SVU since day one. Never let it end
The first one made me think of season18 episode 9. The victim was drugged with quaaludes & they initially thought the young man who gave her the drink assaulted her but it was in fact his grandfather who secretly laced the drink with quaaludes & assaulted her. It later comes out that the young man’s father is estranged from the grandfather because years ago he did the same thing to the young man’s mother (and despite her husband standing by her, the trauma & turmoil led to their divorce). They didn’t tell him before because they wanted to spare him the trauma but didnt think he’d do it again
There was an episode inspired by the Leigh Leigh murder in New South Wales, Australia in the late 80’s which was about a girl who went to a classmate’s party, was raped and later murdered. The culprits were adults who were bouncers for the party.
I remember the case but not the episode. Any idea which one was it?
@@mikagrossmann5370 the episode’s called soulless. I think it’s the final episode of season 4.
@@NoirRose21 thanks, found it.
The story about gypsy killing her mother was sad on both ends. Gypsy was abused
If you enjoyed this video, check out the podcast "That's Messed Up." They go over SVU episodes, the crimes on which they're based, and then Interview someone who was involved in making the episode.
Definitely will be checking that out...I love law and order:svu
Oh my gosh yes! I love that podcast!
not to down play what happened to Elizabeth smart but I think it's sad that Jaycee Dugard didn't receive the same amount of media attention even though she was held captive for 18 years
Elizabeth Smarts abduction took place not long after 9/11, she could not control the amount of coverage her abduction got.
Jaycee got a ton of media coverage and wrote a book.
Both stories are terrible and deserve attention.
I've played GTA for years and never have thought about killing or stealing.
JON BENET STORY STILL MAKES ME WONDER TO THIS DAY AND I WASNT BORN YET….still trying to figure out how they didn’t catch the perp yet
To me I think it was the mother but she’s dead so it won’t ever be solved.
Catch the perp? So her family?
I think it was the brother but you are right it won't be solved
What may have been accident turned into something that will likely never be solved satisfactorily. That is, between the Ramsey's actions prior to and after notifying the authorities, and the investigation itself.
@@AnimeFan0048 same. I feel like they could have learned a lot by making them take that truth serum stuff.
I literally started re-watching today after taking a break after the most recent season finale and the second I open UA-cam I see this😱😂 My favorite show!!
Literally?
You mean you didn’t dream, fantasize, write about watching it, but, you REALLY,ACTUALLY did it?!
There are at least two that you left off the list: season 6, episode 4, "Scavenger" was inspired by the BTK case, and exactly 5 seasons later, season 11, episode 4, "Hammered" was inspired by the George Tiller murder. Both real-life cases happened where I live, in Wichita, Kansas.
It says top 20, not every single one.
I think the season 5 episode "Mean" was inspired by the Shanda Sharer case. The overall story of the crime in the episode is very different, but the crime itself is eerily similar: four teen girls lure and kidnap one girl and torture her and keep her in a car trunk.
I think that's why svu is one of the best TV series ever. It's these episodes that are based on true crimes that actually happened in real life.
Criminal Minds is a pretty good close first too.
The gypsy and dee dee reference may also be right, but law and order actually referenced it earlier but made it a sub plot to the Michael Jackson style case. The little girl lying was actually not sick and the grandma was literally diagnosed with Munchausen
Just like Dee Dee, she didn’t know it was a lie, and it’s Muchhaussens by Proxy because she did it to someone else. Plain Muchhausens is when you do it to yourself. Also in that first episode, the girl didn’t kill the grandmother. In the episode mentioned, the girl kills her mother ( more like the Blanchard case ).
There's a lot more that's scary about the David Reimer/John Money episode -- like what John Money's legacy has become today, without _anyone_ seeming to realize who it's come from.
Also, the girls who attempted to kill their friend in the 'Slenderman' case weren't doing it to become "proxies." In reality, one of the girls was schizophrenic, and the other was a psychopath who manipulated the schizophrenic girl with stories of Slenderman, using her like a weapon in an attempt to kill their mutual friend.
I'm surprised gender is considered something valid when Money lied about the experiment being successful. You'd think that lying about your unethical and inhumane experiment methods to prove a theory would invalidate it. You'd think two men committing suicide as a result of the psychological trauma inflicted by the experiment would make people open their eyes, but i guess people would rather take sweet lies over bitter truths.
Because they were tired and bored of their friend. That’s just so scary and sad.
I believe criminal minds had the best case on the little Ramsey girl, in that episode she was killed by her jealous older brother. While already losing one kid they covered it up so they didn't lose a second child that night.
There was an episode that was inspired by the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, a high school student on a graduation trip goes missing in another country. In case of the SVU ep, it was a Canadian student visiting NYC.
The Gloucester Pregnancy Pact was also the inspiration for an episode of Todd & The Book of Pure Evil.
While I do not about the specific case that inspired Torch .I do know of 2 cases from the early 1990s where 2 men faced the death penalty for Arson /murder. In both cases they said they were innocent and the fires were accidental. In 1 case the procacuter enlisted the help of fire experts to prove he was lying ,instead they proved he was telling the truth .the other a fire expert independently decide 5o prove one way or the other .it was proven that on was also accidental. These cases put into question the previously thought tried and true methods of determining ARSON and led to the reopening of several cases and the exoneration of several inmates ,including death row inmates
I’m not sure if this video mentions anything but the episode “Born Again” tackles the Candace Newmarker case, as well as another one I’m not familiar with. I knew about that case when I was pretty young, from watching Game Theory. I was horrified when I watched the episode when I realized that it was rebirthing therapy which killed the girl.
As someone who is adopted and has an abusive mother…Candace’s case haunts me. So many other True Crime Cases don’t affect me, but Candice’s is enough to make me need to take a break and force myself to consume more wholesome content

Another episode that SVU drew source from was the season 7 episode “Starved”. It mimicked the Terri Schiavo case a lot in the second half of that episode.
The Dee Dee case is so disturbing
Oh yes
I couldnt imagine finding out something so devastating. Imagine believing you're going to die young and never live normally for a majority of your life just because your mom has major issues. Apparently she didnt even know her own age because her mom had her convinced she was like 14 when she was actually about 17.
The sad thing about the Duggar family. Is everyone is so brainwashed into thinking God will save them. Not anymore
One of my absolute fav. tv shows ever.
We know what we're getting ourselves in for from day one. .
We have all noticed how some shows bare more than a little close to real crimes.
that's what makes it more interesting.

My favorite crime show !!!!!
SVU is so good honestly.
You forgot the Stephanie Lazarus case.
True Story: Police officer Stephanie Lazarus BRUTALLY killed the wife of an ex boyfriend out of jealousy in late 70s early 80s. Because lack of technology, she was never found guilty and DNA wasn't existing at that time. DECADES go by, she's still an officer, specialized in "art" cases. 2009 , her department through lack of cares, started investigating cold cases. Long story short, found her DNA and found her guilty.
SVU Version: An FBI agent friend of Liv's says she's investigating a cold case of a suspect guilty of MULTIPLE murders. The man says he's guilty and admitted to the murders, but the FBI agent is trying to pin the wife she killed onto him. He denies it. During an "interrogation" , Liv and the other detectives pretend to be giving him, they turn it onto her and she admits that she in fact killed the wife.
I love this crime drama hit series!
Season 14, Episode 14 is legit the way Stepahnie Lazarus' case plays out, I feel like people don't know it though lol
I felt the one with the mom making her think she had all those issues deserved worse
I remember that one too.
they did a freakishly almost minute by minute recreation of what they believe happened to that poor boy.
Rihanna did stay though.. she just got incredibly lucky to keep her life, it could have gone either way. How many women also stayed when she did, and they didn't make it? She was a role model, some people would stay just because she did.
Also I'm mad that Chris brown didn't go to jail or pay he is still abusive and with a lot of money.
It's not about her being a role model. Plenty of women stayed in that king of relationship before her and their reasons are a point to question.
@@heathercontois4501 the abusers have probably convinced their victims that they need them, that no one else will ever help them. Some victims may also be afraid that their abusers will track them down and kill them or any family members, especially any kids they might have, if they try to leave.
I lived in Gloucester Massachusetts at the time of THE PREGNANCY PACT.
There was this episode called "Sick", on season 4 or 5, that was about Michael Jackson's paedophilia and the guy who played the part was so creepily similar.
i miss the boy in the box from Season 7 episode 7.
