    Excellent video! I followed your directions and built several shelves in my garage. The design is very sturdy, and it was easy to build. I built one shelf two feet wide and 15 feet long. Then I scaled the design down to build one shelf 18" wide and eight feet long. I then scaled it down to build 2 smaller shelves using only a board for the shelf, using 1/2 height plates and angled boards (leaving out the front board and the boards under the shelf.)
    My shelves are fabulous. I had searched all over UA-cam for designs, and thought yours was the best. I am very glad that I picked this design. Your video provided all the instructions necessary to do the job. Many thanks!

    This is really a great video, I don’t understand the process well. But I do know it was thoughtfully designed and built!

      I scrolled some of comments to see if anyone else had trouble understanding the process of making the first angled support piece. I'm no handy person. After explaining the two parallel pieces the same distance apart as the boards on the wall, I couldn't fully follow his reasoning for the angled cuts. Felt like that's what I needed to understand most. Still don't get it. I could follow his work alone strategies and am glad he shared his process.

    Thank you for the great video, I'll be doing the same in my garage. What size are the crews that you used? I bought a box of 1/4" x 3" and they are the same type that you used. Thank you again!

    Hi Geoff. thanks for the video - I have started to make these. do you have any tips on having a second lower set of shelves, attached to these?

    Hi Geoff, great video and design, just wondering what size timber you used, they look like 90x35.Just working on my own little project which is a similar design but with 2 shelves.Top shelf 800 wide and second shelf 500 wide which will be hung from the top shelf.

    This is the best shelf design I've seen after going through hundreds. Perfect design; weight is getting distributed over two horizontal supports as well as angled supports. Would much appreciate if you can share the dimensions of the shelf parts. I am in Canada and need to build my garage shelf before the sub-zero winter sets in.

    Not clear on the length of the cut diagonal am I measuring space between the 2 horizontal members ( top of first to bottom of second) or the distance between them? Thanks.

    You've got about 3x overkill - you could use that to support a mezzanine. A couple of ledged 1x verticals in the front would have been more than enough. Eliminate the bottom cleat.

    This is a great video and has helped me decide to move forward with this method for installing a shelf versus one that would be attached to the wall and trusses. Quick question, what type of saw did you use to cut out the birds mouth? Table saw?

  • @1023Blessed
    @1023Blessed 3 роки тому

    I am new to woodworking. I have all my shelves made but I do not know how to cut the birds mouth. I have a miter saw but it doesn’t cut those angles. Help. What type of saw should I purchase so that I can cut different angles without stress? Thank you for the video. I’m so excited about doing something of this magnitude by myself. Almost there... 🌷

    It's really fascinating how you built it, and I considered it, but I'm thinking it's a lot of work for just one shelf. What am I missing? (Love you videos!!!)

    • @GoJoGeoffVlogs
      @GoJoGeoffVlogs  6 років тому

      Probably depends on how much weight you'll be putting on the shelf - this is def an overkill for light-weight materials :)

    Could you use the frame set up for a work bench with oak worktop being the choice Surface?? being sturdy and strong enough to take a pounding now an again?? The reason I ask I'm a mechanic and this look would fit better for my set up.. thanks in advance.

    That shelf not going anywhere, strong as the wall itself. You can always tell a good old builder by the way they build, not skipping any corners and build to last. Hows the garage conversion going?

      Just take a few screenshots of the critical steps if your carpenter doesn’t have access to this video. All the materials are 2” x 4” lumber except the shelf surface.
